In test mode, try hitting each of the opto boards (with your hand, not a hammer) as well as the trough. Do any switches register? Potentially, a solder joint or component is broken somewhere, which provides continuity when at rest, but gets disrupted by the vibration from the trough eject coil.
Quoted from Brijam:One screw had come just loose enough for the opto board to vibrate and register empty. Tightening the screw fixed it.
