Quoted from o-din:

As a mechanic for 30 years I had the chance to drive and work on almost every different kind of vehicle, and in the end I came to a conclusion that they are all junk. I own an 01 Tacoma, and it suits my needs just fine. But lately I drive as little as possible.
And in hindsight Bally is more like a Buick than a Chevy.

Heh...I had a 1997 Toyota Tacoma that I bought new in March of 97. It had 137k miles on it (very low for a 17 year old V6 driver) Until some dipshit ran a red light and totaled it. Now I have to look at used Tacomas. I would like a new one but I can't warrant the price at 23-29k ish for the ones I like.

A really super nice Gottlieb Astro. You just don't see these for sale often, let alone on ebay. If my pinball funds weren't spent already I would jump all over this one.

Here's a nice Target Alpha with what looks like a beautiful playfield.

It's a Target Alpha day on ebay. Here is another one located in Wisconsin. Not as nice as the one I linked a few hours.

ebay.com link: Vintage 1976 Gottlieb Target Alpha Pinball Machine

#520 10 years ago

This one is sold but can you say deal of the century??? I originally saw this pin listed on ebay a month ago for 1950 dollars. This C37 sold for 500 dollars!!!

ebay.com link: Gottlieb Centigrade 37 1971 pinball machine

At 800 dollars I would have bought it for sure. Did you get to see the pinball in person?

Captain Fantastic = boredom

#533 10 years ago

Pins that I feel that are just pretty to look at and no fun to play include.

Buckaroo, Wizard, Captain fantastic & Kiss(I know not an EM).

#543 10 years ago

I know this is not an EM but holy moly this is a nice 1983 Zaccaria "Time Machine" pinball. Just want to post this here first so someone on pinside can get a good chance to buy it now on this machine!

ebay.com link: Rare Zaccaria TIME MACHINE pinball Beautiful italian game motorized playfield

#553 10 years ago

This beautiful Target Alpha was relisted and lowered in price to $625 in South Carolina. If I wasn't tapped out on pinball funds I would have used the "Buy it now" This shouldn't last the day. I just hope someone here on pinside gets it.

I found Hoov's Bank-A-Ball on ebay. Nice machine dude! No reserve...bid bid bid! Hoov has beautiful machines.

truly a time where i can say "i wish i was closer"... that looks VERY nice...

Even with shipping I doubt you would find a better playfield at 1000 and under. Doooooo eeeeeet ccotenj...Just doooooo eeeeeeeeet.

#558 10 years ago

Just loan me Jacks Open and you will have more space. ....and of course you could make a golf trip out of it.

#560 10 years ago

It would be a perma loan. LOL...I wouldn't see myself driving to NJ and back for a second time.

#563 10 years ago

That's awesome Hoov! I am glad you found yourself a Slick Chick! One of these days I will own a Bank A Ball again. Not for awhile though. Thank you for offering it to me a few weeks ago before you started the ebay.

#585 10 years ago

Why does this pin have to be so far away with "NO SHIPPING, pick up only" curses...
Gottlieb Pyramid (2 player Cleopatra EM)

ebay.com link: Gottliebs Pyramid pinball machine CHICAGO PICK UP

#587 10 years ago

It is tempting to drive it one way from Chicago to Dallas. But yeah between the small suv rental and gas it would be 500 bucks easily. Bu they only made like 800 or 900 of them. I don't know how often these come up for sale.

#589 10 years ago

Damn dude nice Casino! Grats on both pins!

#600 10 years ago

Perfect restoration candidate.

#603 10 years ago

Do I see another O-din purchase in the making?

#607 10 years ago

I want a Sea Ray not a Mariner. I like Sea Ray because it is a two player and has a much better back glass. Besides that mariner has been up on ebay for awhile now. It is in a retail setting and is too much money. It is a 500-600 dollar pin. Then the shipping would kill it.

#610 10 years ago
Quoted from IntoPinball:

Ebay link

I am guessing you bought something so you have to make room for a new machine?

#612 10 years ago

I need to go play the overpriced one at "FUN!" in mesquite (Dallas) again. He wants anywhere from 1500-2500 dollars and he has it way upstairs out of the public view. I just don't want to buy retail. But yeah I hear you on the Gottliebs are better. Maybe other's will chime in on how they feel about Mariner / Sea Ray and the way it plays.

A 2 player 1972 Gottlieb Outer Space in player condition.

ebay.com link: 1972 Outer Space By Gottliebs

#628 10 years ago
Quoted from AlexF:

Hard to see but looks like it could be a pretty decent example. 3K is crazy for sure but you see that a lot on Ebay.

I have only seen one Solar City over the years that was worth 3k and it was on ebay a few months back and it was sold by pinball pickers out of Northern California. It had 4800 plays on it and looked like it was freshly pulled out of a box in 1977. I even called to see if he still had it but he sold it two weeks prior to my call for 3200 dollars outside of ebay. It was original everything including original paint.

#630 10 years ago

It was a HUO. Here's a link to it. Get ready to wipe the drool off your bottom lip in 3, 2, 1.....

http://pinballpickers.com/pinballmachines/solar%20city/main.html

#635 10 years ago
Quoted from AlexF:

Yep, that one is super nice. A beautiful example if there ever was one. I am a little confused by the tax license on it if it was HUO. With that said it is kind of a neat and interesting element. I like it being there.

Maybe it was part of a pinball league in Maryland. Maybe someone will chime in. It would be nice to know the history of this machine and if that is a Tax sticker or not.

#638 10 years ago

Odin...you got lucky...Here in Dallas all we have is CL vultures that buy anything and everything. XYZ B title 70's gottlieb comes up on CL for 500 dollars working or not. Someone then puts maybe 10-12 hours into cleaning it and re-rubbering it which is something you would do anyways to be able to play it. Now all of a sudden it is a 800-900 dollar game. I gave up on CL here in Dallas months and months ago. I am also picky with the titles I want. I like the A titles obviously from my want list. I am also picky about playfields. So I guess CL is really not an option for me in my area. All the CL listings that I drool all over that you guys are posting are in states like....

NJ,NY,VT,PA,OH,RI,NH and of course California.

PCE...You are in a Electrical Mechanical pinball thread where most of us talk 99% about pinballs from 1950-1979 with no digital electronics.it.

Quoted from Shapeshifter:

Take a look at the Atlantis - man, I was close to buying it.

I have looked at every pinball machine on his website for the past 9 months or so. I told him I would have given him more than the 2500 he sold it for.

Another Gottlieb Paul Bunyan. This time in better condition and it is in Pennsylvania with a 500 BIN price. This won't last long.

How do you like that stupid post installed between the flippers. I hate that shit! Yeah kind of a jerk move to put a big promising picture of a Slick Chick pin and then a few tiny bumper caps that you can easily get from Steve at PBR.

The last one that was not as nice as this one sold for 8k about 4 months ago. It was that guy out of Pennsylvania that has his college aged daughter that sells parts on ebay. he has a retail shop with nothing but EM pins. I forget the name of the store.

#793 10 years ago

That is a 2500-3000 dollar machine. On Ebay it should hit 3k.

#838 10 years ago

My Card Whiz was a Bob Borden machine. Yes I paid too much for it. I thought it was collector quality. The playfield is nice but not collector quality. There are two sockets that don't work and there was a pop bumper socket that the wire was being held to the braid with electrical tape. There was some new #44 bulbs mixed in with old crusty #44 bulbs that had to be 20 to 37 years old. I changed them all out to #47's There are two flaky sockets in the backbox that I have to turn the bulbs a certain way and not move the machine to get them to stay on.. I would give the playfield an 8.5 because of the touchups that are good but still noticeable. I give the cabinet repaint a 10 because it is absolutely gorgeous. The backglass I give it an 8.5 to 9. There are some touch ups in the reds of the backglass. There is no cupping (thank god) and the machine plays super fast and is very mechanically sound. I should have flown in to Philadelphia. I can do this my wife is a flight attendant. I would have then refused the machine and picked out something out that Bob has for sale. Now I will just have to trade up later or find an NOS or very nice used playfield for it. If there is a remake of the Card Whiz glass let me know.

#839 10 years ago

Oh and the plastics seem faded in the purples and they are slightly warped. PBR has the plastics for cheap enough. I guess what I am trying to say is this. For the money I spent on this machine I was expecting a museum peace like the Slick Chick that boilerman sold me.

#841 10 years ago

Yeah his prices are off the charts. I should have known better.

#843 10 years ago

Yeah he did a "Monet" on the pictures he took of the machine. Oh well. Lesson learned.

You would think they would show more of the playfield. I guess they don't want to sell it or they have things to hide. The one decent picture of the playfield shows some wear.

Quoted from Pin-it:

Not seen often! 40 watchers!
ebay.com link » 1950 Gottlieb Knock Out Woodrail Pinball Playfield Animated Boxers Referee

It needs a professional cabinet repaint. 500-1000 dollars. It needs some touchups on the playfield $$$? It needs all new wood legs, rails and lock down bar. This turns a 2800 dollar (minimum bid) machine into a 4500-5000 dollar machine. Is it worth it? Not really. The Knock Out that was on ebay for 4500ish over the summer was a really nice original condition survivior. One of these days I will get a prime example of this machine.

I found out what was wrong with my Slick Chick. There is a broken plastic piece in on of my score reels. I hope it is a plastic piece that can be ordered from PBR.

#949 10 years ago

The plastic piece broke off. There is a little spring that is lost that holds the relay and the end of this metal part is pretty beat up as well. Let me know if you need any more pictures of the reel or these parts that are in the picture.

IMG_0252.JPGIMG_0252.JPG
#950 10 years ago

I could just cannibalize an early to mid 60's score reel, or solder in a whole different one and mail back anything I don't use. Thanks Hoov. Oh and the 1's relay is 100% working now. It was "way2wyrd" that came over and helped me diagnose the problem. As for Card Whiz, Jeff seems to think we have it isolated to the E relay.

#952 10 years ago

That would be great Hoov. Let me know. Thanks man!

Typically collectors sell to other collectors and don't have to go the ebay route. If a machine is fantastic and you have several people come to your house and enjoy the game then they will always say "If you ever sell this game call me first" Then there are the pinball shows where people offer you money for your game even if you have a "NFS" sign on your machine. That's what makes pinside great. If you put the word out there that you are looking for XYZ machine you may or may be able to shake one loose from a long term collection from a collector.

No I wouldn't. I just post em as I see em.
I don't like AAB. I don't like the horrible cab touch-ups. The playfield looks to be about an 8. This machine is a 1200 dollar machine and not a 2000 dollars machine. It would have to be a local machine if I was into AAB. If it was priced at 1200 dollars I would still only offer about 1000-1100 for it.

They are like Mylar protectors. I usually see these on older wood rails and early 60's pins. They are ugly as hell. The first thing I would do is put new ones on. Oh no...those might be the ones that are actually stuck on there and would pull up the paint if removed??

Let's do it up! We can post pictures of various back glasses, cabs and play fields. From there we can all judge them 1 to 10.

#1245 10 years ago

6 categories...

1. Playfield....planking,fading,missing art, touch ups etc. Has nthe playfield been cleaned of all dirt and ball swirls.
2. Back glass...flaking, fading,cracking, missing art, repro
3. Cabinet....original, scratched,fading, gouges, repainted
4. Any metal.....door, coin chute, legs, lock down bar, arch stick, ball stop, and apron.....rust,dents,painted,scratches, missing or faded art or decals.
5. Anything plastic..... Playfield plastic (warped, faded, missing art, repro) Inserts (cupped, shrinking, missing numbers or scores) Bumper caps (faded, missing art, original or replaced)
6. "The Insides" including functionality. Contacts, coils, flippers. Have the flippers and pop bumpers been rebuilt. Have the insides been restored and cleaned. All contacts cleaned and adjusted. Score reels clean and not missing art? Does the game function and score 100 percent. Has the game been shopped and re-rubbered and any flickering light sockets fixed or replaced.

Cool...my 6 categories were suggestions.

This will sell anywhere 1200-1500 dollars. It's Ebay so I expect 1500. The pictures he took of the playfield are postage stamp sized. For all we know the inserts are cupped to all hell. Hopefully not. I am all out of funds or I would be all over this one.

It pisses me off when someone lists a desirable EM with a price that could be warranted and only post one f'ing picture that doesn't even show the play field.

that looks to be the nicest SS pf i have ever seen. but even with a nice pf that title doesn not command a price over 1200

Look again at the playfield and the missing paint around the 12,11,13,14 and 15. Also look at the chipping around the 10,7 and 8. This would be a 1200 dollar machine if the playfield was touched up.

#1286 10 years ago

1500 dollars is priced very fairly for a very limited machine. To the AAB collector this will be a nice addition to his collection.

It looks cool at 1500 dollars to me. You will see it sell at the 2500 buy it now especially here in Texas. If I had 2500 I would ask for more pics and drive the 5 hours to San Antonio with cash in hand. 13 years ago I had a Fireball that I spent 4 grand on before the EM bubble burst. I bought it from Herb Silvers @ Fabulous Fantasies. It killed me to sell it when my hours were severely cut after 9/11 events. One of these days I will own one again. I am not actively looking for one because I have "been there done that". There are a slew of 60's Gottlieb wedgeheads I want instead.

#1654 10 years ago

That Cleo would make a great project. The Hawaiian Beauty looks pretty but I am against that bowling alley look and play of that playfield. It will make the game play 10,000 times different than what it should. That Sweet Hearts looks really nice!

#1662 10 years ago

The price is about right. The pins I bought restored off of Herb Silvers from 1998-2001 were 3000-4200 dollars. Adjust for inflation and his price is the same so 4250 is about right.

Man what a douche. I have lost all respect for this guy. Look at the planked playfield , mediocre touchups around the inserts and faded / missing paint specs in the paint. The playfield is an 8.
1500 dollar base game
500 in PBR parts
300 for a new repro backglass
500-600 dollar repaint
1500 for labor and restoration
= 4300-4400 dollars which is too much for this game unless it had a Wade Krauss PF or an impeccable original PF.

Hey Rat, your in Texas. Why don't you go grab it.

I had a Card Whiz and just sold it because I did not like it enough to keep it. 70's games don't keep me coming back for more as much as the 60's games. I think I am done with 70's drop target games. ebay.com link » Restored Gottlieb Top Score 2 Player Pinball Machine Inc 6 Month Warranty

He has it priced correctly. Sometimes repainting is just a labor of love. This machine and the 4 player version "300" always come up for sale. I see these for sale at least twice a month. They typically sell for 500-600 dollars. It looks like he has it priced to break even or make money off of his repainting skills. 500 (base game) 500 (his time and effort of repainting the cab) 275 dollars in parts, shipping and ebay's cut. (new legs, and other PBR parts like arch stick, ball stop and return gate as well as EBAYs cut of the sale)

They made 3200 of these in 2 player
They made 8000 of these in 4 player

That means a ton of these are still around.
