WoW! Only $2500.00 for a "1977" Gottlieb Solar City! Only off by a year.

Ad even shows 1 whole picture and 7 words for the description that we already knew.

Not a bad Bg,the rest of it needs attention but the $$ is just right.
Its about 45 minutes from me,their getting more local.

#1455 10 years ago

It's a good game, not great but pretty good.

The thing I really like about this era of William's pins is the speed of the table.

This is another pin I played tonight at Clay's VFW.

Square Head - high end restoration.

Seller claims over $4000 in parts in this game

#1463 10 years ago

"This is probably the only one left on the planet earth!"

We should all pool our funds and invest in this machine! Better investment than gold!!

Notice the rust pitting on the lockdown receiver? I did.

Ditto^^ If he put the word Antique in the description i may have thought about buying it.

Seller Quote "Would make a great gift for the guy that has everything."

#1466 10 years ago

If i had everything i wouldnt need it.

#1467 10 years ago

Okay I lost all respect for this guy now. He had some nice EM restorations at 3k ish. A neat Solar City and a Atlantis. His web site says he has an El Dorado coming soon. This guy has awesome restorations but not 8k nice. I could understand if this was a Gottlieb mermaid or a Gottlieb Knockout. But WTF?!?!?

The price was just lowered to $450 on this Abra Ca Dabra. I want it but it's just too far from me and my wife said she would kill me if I drove down to get it.

Someone should snag it.

Got to be worth it at that price.

#1474 10 years ago

Assuming the rest of it looks as good as what's pictured, then it's definitely worth it. I'd buy it in a second for $450 if I didn't already have one I'm restoring... That's a no-brainer buy if anyone's local.

Boston pinball machine. Looks to be in pretty good shape considering it's age,

I suppose 'boston pinball' isn't the easiest thing to search on via Google, if one wanted to figure out how old it is and really didn't know.

This shit cracks me up. The one auction picture looks like it was taken by a Polaroid circa 1979.

Wow that's pretty bad. I've seen worse though. I don't get why these people think they can ask so much for an item and not take decent photos...and more than one.

well, yeah, WE know that, but think of a seller who doesn't know to go to ipdb and just starts with a Google search... 'boston pinball' doesn't exactly narrow it down easily.

Or start with a seller that has a beautiful antique pinball machine and knows nothing about it except that it is a nice piece of furniture? Heck, he figured out how to open it up, didn't he.

It looks like the guy said "Hey check it out! I just spent 500-600 on a base game bought 50-75 dollars worth of parts from PBR and a 300 repro backglass from Shay. So Basically I have 1000 dollars plus lets say 500 dollars worth of man hours and I am going to triple my money!"

WTF moment...At least repaint the cab if you are going to charge that much.

#1485 10 years ago

Hawaiian Beauty is a desirable woodrail. I wouldn't spend that either but someone might.

#1486 10 years ago

Yep, Hawaiian Beauty is indeed one of the desirable woodrail titles, and very hard to find. Even unrestored, they go for $2K+. Unlikely the base game was cheap.

I'm gonna have to disagree on that one, I think that cab looks pretty good to me for this vintage.

I'm not educated enough to know if the price is fair, but I know I'd rather have the Hawaiian Beauty over a new Stern :0) And for a lot less money too!

#1489 10 years ago

I'd agree but this one looks like it is still a major project.

#1490 10 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

In what way?

#1491 10 years ago

I'm sure it works mechanically, and i know that is not hard to achieve, But refinishing the cabinet and playfield seems like a lot of work to me. If I was to pay a price like that, I would want those items addressed beforehand. If the cabinet had better artwork left and the playfield wasn't losing it's finish, it would be a good machine to leave as is.

#1492 10 years ago

Where is the playfield losing its finish? I'm not seeing it. (It actually looks like a pretty sharp playfield to me, but the 'grass' can look like wear I suppose.)

Personally, I'd prefer the cab as-is, keeping its originality, rather than a repaint. But I realize that's a matter of opinion (and a long-running debate).

#1493 10 years ago
Quoted from DirtFlipper:

So would I, but this one is missing a lot of it.

#1494 10 years ago

This one seems like it would walk that fine line of patina vs refurb.

How 'bout the playfield? I must be blind.

The paint looks good, but in the bare wood areas it looks like whatever they used to seal it is flaking away. But I am no expert on what they used back then.

I see it now! (Zoom is a wonderful thing.) Bummer.

Quoted from DirtFlipper:

Yes it is. I saw it yesterday. This thing is only an hour from me, and if the fit and finish on this machine was any better, I might have thrown him an offer. But not what he was asking. But somebody out there can make a real beauty out of it. I'm just not up to the task.

#1499 10 years ago

Is his asking price high for the machine? Given the condition, I think so. That said, the guy is looking for an offer. The one thing I have learned selling coin-op for a long time is you can always go down on your price, never up.

#1500 10 years ago

Couple unrestored Daisy May games, in much worse shape, sold on ebay last year in the $3K range. HB is in that class, so it might find a buyer. But it's a fairly specialized market (clearly) at that level. The asking price might be high for the condition, but it's not super crazy. Might be a 2000-2500 range game. Listing it this way is a good approach, since there's just not an established market for it. If it sells for the asking price, great. But this way he can get wide visibility, and see what range the offers are. Great way to see what the market will bear, when there aren't good comps available.
