Quoted from o-din:

It is even more abinormal that there is a thread of this magnitude where there are a group of of pinsiders that have helped each other, entertained each other, befriended each other, but have never insulted each other.

Truth.

And this is why I now find myself perusing both of the EM threads. They are very refreshing!

After playing Odin's sweet collection of EM's this last weekend, I think the time has finally come for me to put my money where my mouth is and seek out an EM for my collection. I love pins that have that "just one more game" pull to them. Turns out, most EM's have that in spades! Who knew?

Really not sure what I want, other than something in pretty nice working condition as I don't know how to work on EMs yet.

Hopefully a nice one at a fair price will pop up locally. I will be checking this thread and local CL on a much more regular basis.

welcome to the jungle... we got fun n games...

I like fun n games!

Quoted from ccotenj:

hey rob... mikeincali has a solar city listed here at pinside that might be worth checking out... not sure where you are in relation to him geographically, socal is a big place...
http://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/fs-gtb-solar-city-in-so-cal

Thanks for the heads up. Will have to look into this. Odin has a Solar City, so there is a part of me that doesn't want to get a pin that I can already play at Mr. Odin's place.

#5790 9 years ago
Quoted from ccotenj:

yea, i hear you on that... i wish o-din's collection was closer to me...
you want a 2" or a 3"?

Would consider either, but probably a slight preference for the 3" flippers.

#5791 9 years ago

I know there's another thread for the ebay stuff, but why couldn't this one be local to me?

ebay.com link: Gottlieb Top Card Flipper Pinball Machine Near Mint Condition

#5798 9 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Rob, I heard you mention you might want a King Pin someday. This one is local and a bit overpriced, but a lot cheaper than the one you had in mind. Probably a $700 machine max.
ebay.com link » 1973 Gottliebs King Pin Bowling Game Pinball Machine

Yeah, that pin would appeal to me except for his asking price..

#5802 9 years ago

I'm definitely not in any rush.

In fact, half the fun to me is the hunt! So no worries here.

Thinking about it a bit more, ideally I'd like a Wedgehead with a spinner. And great art. And one that plays great.

I don't ask for much!

Quoted from tuffano:

Maybe mentioned earlier, but worth mentioning again in North Carolina from Tuesday 6/3
Jacks Open @ $450
hickory.craigslist.org link

I can't help but reply with the obligatory "wish I was closer"!

Quoted from ccotenj:

no, not much at all...
"surfer" (2-player) or "surf champ" (4-player)... spinner, drop targets, kickout hole and rollovers... fun to play... one of the better art packages from that vintage (i'm not a huge fan of most of morison's work, so i'm a tough critic there, most of it is too "cartoonish" for my taste)...
i'm a big fan of "pro-football", but that is very much a love/hate machine for people, due to the flipper arrangement and the way the ball is served "up the middle"... i'd be a bigger fan if i liked the art better, but i like the gameplay so much that i live with it...
others will probably have more suggestions...

Thanks Chris. I think the reality is that I can't be too specific in terms of getting what I want if I am going to stay local and what to pick something up relatively soon, so something that has *most* of what I will suffice.

I missed out on a King Pin with nice backglass and PF for $325.00 yesterday. =(

I saw that Buccaneer. Looks nice. What do you guys think of the price though?

#5853 9 years ago
Quoted from Shapeshifter:

Rob, might be worth checking out Hoov's Big Hit at $850.

Where is this ad for an $850 Big Hit? Or are you saying that's what they can be had for?

I looked at the layout of a Big Hit already and found it to be very interesting. Love the idea of the vari targets and getting home runs for completing them.

This is one of those sleeper titles - great bang for buck.

Thanks. I think shipping kind of kills it for me though.

Central Park $1000.00 Northridge, CA

losangeles.craigslist.org link

#5907 9 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Price is high, but it does show pride of ownership. Not much you are going to find in the $500 range that doesn't need some kind of repair. I would say in that condition he has at least a $1000 machine. It looks near perfect. But maybe someone else sees something that I am missing.
It does look like the spinner is the main shot, and only 4 other lanes to shoot at. It may not be all that great to play. But who knows until you try it?
I know one thing though. That Buccaneer would look pretty cool in my garage.

Well, he's lowered the price by a whopping hundred bucks! $1399.00 for the Buccaneer. Still missing a plastic.

#6076 9 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Boilerman's looking also. Next up I am going to bring that Big Casino back to life, but I am short one pedestal. It wouldn't be too hard to make one, but an original is what Flipper needs.
If I was to go see Herb, it would probably be to get the whole cabinet painted. That, the new backglass and polishing up the metal parts would really make it quite a machine. But I'm not in any hurry to do all that. I kind of like the aged look . It shows it's history that way.

The word is "patina"!

Edit: missed Hoov's post. What he said.

I got a Flipper last week or so. I now know why Slick Chick is such a great game. Not many of those found their way around these parts when I was a kid. Either that or I was just playing in the wrong arcade. Slick Chick not only promises but delivers.

Ah yes, forgot about the Flipper. So this is your second Wedgie. Nice.

I can't wait to play the Slick Chick! !

Sky.Line Riverside, CA $1150.00

inlandempire.craigslist.org link

This is my backyard. Opinions on this one?

#7366 9 years ago
Quoted from hoov:

A good 60's wedgehead but Kings & Queens, King of Diamonds, Slick Chick, and a few others are bettter players IMHO. I like the backglass animation and it was pretty easy to win games on when I had one. I'd rate it closer in playability to Crosstown, Central Park, Bank a Ball, Sing Along, and a few others. For that game with the cabinet like it is I wouldn't pay more than $800 - $850 JMHO. This wedgehead might have went for that price 10 - 12 years ago when 60's games were hot back then, but today the demand just isn't there for that price. Flame suit on

Thanks Hoov.

So this is not "Hoov approved" at that price?

I really love the artwork and the animated backglass, but if the gameplay isn't particularly good, I am not going to pay that kind of premium for the pin.

#7377 9 years ago

Faces by Sonic, Anaheim, CA. $200.00 OBO

orangecounty.craigslist.org link

Currently ranked #1 at IPDB?!

#7392 9 years ago
Quoted from Pin-it:

Thats a steal, that clearcoat preserves them well.

Went and looked at it.

Backglass is in very good shape. Cabinet is flaking and faded. PF was filthy so it was hard to accurately tell the condition. There was a screwdriver sitting on top of the PF for good measure. All rubbers were either broken, falling off, or non existent.

Game would light up, but we could not get it to start a game.

Game is worth the $200.00 as a project, but I'm just not confident enough at this point in my EM experience to have pulled the trigger. This is a good possibility for you Odin.

Quoted from o-din:

And yet another Drop a Card-

That's the same one I told you about last week.

#7393 9 years ago
Quoted from Vic_Camp:

You have to go view this game as soon as possible before it gets snatched up. It looks to be a real nice low played original condition wedgehead in the pictures and is worth the trip.

Worth the trip especially since it's in my backyard.

I went ahead and called and have an appointment to go see it tomorrow afternoon.

1961 Gottlieb "Show Boat" Pinball Machine - $300 (North Tustin)

orangecounty.craigslist.org link

#7412 9 years ago
Quoted from Shapeshifter:

Great looking game. Think can only score 20 points maximum but fun trying to max the lift out. If price, condition right, it's always a fairly easy game to sell if you get bored of it.
Good luck.

I am having mixed feelings about this one. From the pics it looks to be in excellent condition. But I'm just not sure about the game play. Haven't played one and there are no game play videos on youtube that I could find.

This definitely seems to be a collector type item given the condition and the superb artwork. And that appeals to me a lot. But game play must be good too, otherwise it's not something that is going to last.

I'm also probably going to go look at a Royal Flush today.

#7416 9 years ago
Quoted from Shapeshifter:

When I played it , it is one of those games that kind of plays itself. Not really a shooters game. Needs to be part of a bigger collection and appreciated for the artwork, animation. I also don't like a maximum 20 point score. I always loved Crosstown for the 300 point shot and Ice Revue has a 200 point shot - feels like a jackpot!

Thanks for that, I appreciate the comments.

I noticed that the same seller of that Sky Line is also selling a Jack in the Box:

Jumping Jack Pinball Machine - $695 (Torrance)

losangeles.craigslist.org link

#7434 9 years ago
Quoted from singlebanana:

C37:
Machine is coming on and scoring, but is not ejecting a ball. Thermometer on backglass is not resetting. Backglass is nice except for some lifting at the "37" number, which you will see, but I think it can be sprayed down with clear. Cab is the worst of it, sides look okay, but front is pretty rough; paint still visible all around if one wanted to make stencils. Only real wear on pf is near the flippers, but that is not painted (all wood) and can be sanded/stain-matched. Asking $1400. Here are some pics: http://s1029.photobucket.com/user/necrom99/library/Centigrade%2037?sort=3&page=1http://s1029.photobucket.com/user/necrom99/library/Centigrade%2037?sort=3&page=1

I'm asking, not telling, as I am not familiar with what C37's go for.

I'm sure many members of Pinside and in particular those who frequent the EM portion of the forum have noticed that our friend Chris, username ccotenj, has not posted for about 2 months.

I had sent him a PM a few weeks back, asking where he had been and how he was doing. I received a reply from him today, and Chris wanted me to let you all know that he has been dealing with some medical issues that he has been working through. He has made substantial improvements in the last week, and he hopes to be able to feel up to posting again soon.

Chris is a really good guy and a real asset to the forum.

oh MAN do i miss those days... the old garden would ROCK!!!
and the players on those teams... just in the pic you posted, there are 4 hall of famers and bird, magic, and (the hated) kareem are without argument in the top 10 players of all time... and robert parish is a top 40 player...
missing from that pic...
worthy, hof, top 40 player...
mchale, hof, top 20 player... the only man i'd rather have set up on the block more than hakeem...
dj, hof, top 40 player...
i'm missing a few i know...
amoungst many other very very good nba players... those were some GREAT series in the 80's... and at the risk of sounding like an old fart, "real man's basketball"... don't get me wrong, i really enjoy today's nba, both the offense and the defense is significantly evolved since the 80's... but occasionally, i kinda miss someone getting clotheslined when they drive the lane...

Couldn't agree more.

The NBA is played very differently today than it was back then. I knew when I was watching those Lakers and Celtics teams playing each other that it was something very special and historic. Two of the very best NBA teams ever playing each other in the finals. Doesn't get better than that.

One reason I asked the question is the fact that I currently have a Bow and Arrow in my current lineup and I really love how it plays...but it seems Bally doesn't get a lot of love when it comes to their EMs, but I've had this one for a few months now and still like it as much as the day I first got it. Glad to know I'm not alone in my admiration for this pin.

Flying Carpet in my backyard for $450.00 and looks to be in decent shape:

The ratings on this pin seem fairly low though. Opinions?

Quoted from o-din:

And if you don't want to keep it I suppose I could make an exception to the "only 2 inch flipper from now on rule".

To be honest, this was my main reservation, as I find myself preferring the 2 inch flippers as well.

But I have an appointment to go see it in about 4 hours.

And I gotta get busy and make it over to O-din's place sometime.

Warning: watch out for the screen door!

Followed up with the seller of Flying Carpet. Guess my "appointment" didn't hold much water. Sold.

700 mile round trip for you guys... easily doable in a day...
i'd be heading to get me some $1205 pancakes...

I've made the round trip to Arizona (not Phoenix though) in a day for a pin once before. I can't quite say it was "easily doable". Doable yes. Easy? I was pretty exhausted at the end of the day.

Murrieta is less than half way to San Diego from you. Not sure why that ad was posted in the San Diego CL.

I didn't realize until now that when I mentioned we stopped a Tommy's after picking up Frontiersman that they are still only a local chain with a few locations in Nevada. I hear people from elsewhere talk about In-N-Out like it is some holy grail of burger joints around here, but reality is they are kind of bland and we rarely eat there. Tommy's FTW!

I agree on In-N-Out completely. Burgers are pretty bland overall, and their fries are terrible. There are many better options around, including Tommy's.

And I *love* hamburgers in general.

Was in Vegas last week, went to PHOF and played quite a few EM's.

I'm in love with Ice Revue. Would love to add that one to the collection, so my eyes are peeled!
