Quoted from AlexF:

Every once in awhile one comes up that I have never heard of. Williams Roto?

You've never heard of it because it is a 1969 Williams Expo! I should know; I own one.

Edit: Hmm, the backglass does say Roto. I've never heard of it before either. It does show up on IPDB as model number 369 with almost no info. Expo is model number 366 - must be a rare version of Expo. As far as I can tell, it is exactly the same as Expo except for the name on the backglass and instruction card. I stand corrected!

#13474 8 years ago

I took a closer look at that Roto and WOW! It's a lot different than Expo. Was I ever wrong in the post above! The left side of the playfield is essentially the same but the right side is very different. Instead of the "East Gate" for the right outlane, there is a mini-post. Instead of the "Star Gate" at the right top there is a stand-up target that looks like it puts up the two mini-posts protecting the outlanes. The center pop-up post between the flippers is gone completely.

The graphics in the middle of the table for "SELECTION" is different and the triangle and trapezoid graphics on the playfield are also different.

The IPDB now shows more information. The primary information there is that Roto is the AAB version of Expo with no game count reel and window, with this note: "We don't know if this game allows only one extra ball per ball in play or if it is add-a-ball. Williams documentation does not indicate that this game is add-a-ball but one of Steve Kordek's many handwritten lists of games does indicate this. We note that the backglass counts Ball In Play, not Balls To Play as typical of add-a-ball games."

Manufacturer: Williams
Game/Type: Dealer's Choice / EM
Year: March 1974
Production: 8,850
Cost: $300
Location: Danville / San Ramon, CA
Link/Contact: sfbay.craigslist.org link

Condition: Nice looking pin for $300. There are four flippers on Dealer's Choice. OP: "...Our old school Williams Pinball Machine is looking for a loving home. It's in fair condition, because we've enjoyed it for many years. All flippers (there are five), lights, scorekeeper, and sounds are in working order. The main flaw is the ball counter (that thing that tells you how many turns you have left), which is blurred out. However, the light behind the ball counter is fully functional."

#13481 8 years ago
Quoted from CactusJack:

And at least Expo has the upper gate (like Doozie) and lower shooter lane gate both of which Roto is sadly lacking. One must assume they wanted much shorter ball times on Roto.

And add to that the missing "extra" post on the left outlane. Those are some gaping gaps for the outlanes AND no center up-post. Roto must be frustrating to play. I'm glad I found the Expo version.

Seriously, what is it with AZ? SO MANY machines for sale...

Beats me. Here is another one for you Chris, everyone's favorite:

Manufacturer: Williams
Game/Type: Jubilee / EM
Year: June 1973
Production: 7,303
Cost: $375
Location: Tempe (Phoenix), AZ
Link/Contact: phoenix.craigslist.org link

Condition: OP: "The backglass is in decent condition with nice bright colors, but has some touchup. It has been sealed, so no further damage will occur. The playfield is in good condition, with new pop bumber caps and skirts. The cabinet is fair condition and has extensive touchup. Also, the metal back door was missing, so I fabricated a wood back for it, I have gone through the game, waxed the playfield, and given it a tune up, so it plays great. What it lacks in condition, it makes up for in game play. This would make the perfect game for the first time buyer. Its fast, fun, and fairly inexpensive for a completely shopped and working pinball machine."

Year: November 1972
Production: 3,875
Cost: $650
Location: Glendale (Phoenix), AZ

Condition: OP: "Works great recently Professionally serviced. All Paperwork and Spares. ...Old School Relays. No Circuit Boards!"

#13501 8 years ago
Quoted from chrisnack:

Cool stuff in here... How does a EM play compared to a SS?

EMs played great when they were new. As the years have passed, most have been neglected and therefore play nothing like when they were new. Find an EM that has been thoroughly restored and you will be surprised how much fun they can be. Of course, that is also true of the early SS pins, but the EMs have had more years to lose their mojo.

Some say that EMs are more "pure" pinball than the newer machines. They have open playfields and simple rulesets. One of the obvious differences between the early SS and EM pinball machines was the audio. The EMs had bells and later chimes that has become synonymous with EMs. Early SS pins had a lot of blooping and bleeping that wasn't all that pleasant to the ear.

I've played Ding Dong and it is a lot of fun. Great backglass too. It's too easy to get the special on five balls, but that's why I played it so much in college when I had to put quarters into these things!

If this looks as good in person as the pics do, then the price might be reasonable. Then again, not sure I could comply with the OPs request to put "MONKEY BUTT" for a reply.

1970 Bally Double Up Rare game, production of 55. Too bad he busted the backglass
Could be easily re-themed to a more "adult" backglass??

Ha ha! Not a chance. This is going to remain as original as possible. I might replace the rubber rings, lamps and wax the playfield but that is about it. And those post-production posts have got to go.

Quoted from reppie:

I've never seen this one before.. I hope someone saves this one.. What a cool looking game!

reppie, it's been saved and it will be treated with the respect that a rare classic Bally 1 player EM deserves!

#14060 8 years ago
Quoted from dmbjunky:

Surely you will touch up the holes from the posts.

Yes, I will do that but the original wear, what little there is of it, on the playfield will be left intact. It should be easy to hide those four holes. I am completely clueless why someone would put four red faceted non-matching posts in the middle of a playfield though.

...aaaaand another Spanish Eyes in Phoenix. For $75... "OBO"?!?!

And it looks like it is missing the playfield glass and playfield in one pic. I tried to contact the seller without any luck. Too many red flags though to stay interested in it.

Quoted from Ramtuathal:

It was legit, but the seller has since discovered the machine is actually working and has no idea how to re-price it.

I won't get into a bidding war with you. You're closer than I am, so make him an offer. There is 'working' and then there is 'Working!' As long as the playfield looks good, it would be a good pick-up since the cabinet and backglass appear to be in good shape in the pic.

Of course if you don't want it...

Quoted from Ramtuathal:

Contacted seller on Spanish Eyes for $75 in Phoenix. It was legit, but the seller has since discovered the machine is actually working and has no idea how to re-price it. I sent him some data, so I'd expect that ad to get pulled and relisted higher than $75. I had my fingers crossed on that one, but I had to be a nice guy and tell him that if it's working, it's worth a bit more than $75.

The seller has, finally, updated the selling price to $500. Too much for me.

Thanks guys. This one is out of my price range. I'm much more of a Project Pin Price Person.

Gotta love a pin with a Gopher Gate!

I played Big Valley in 1975 at the arcade next to Farrel's at the El Con Mall in Tucson. Their pinball machines had their legs removed and they sat on a carpeted ledge. I'm not much of a nudger, but it was just so wrong playing pins and not being able to move them.

Is that a good deal?

No,it's a Big Deal! Sorry, couldn't resist. I only post good deals!

The backglass looks good. There is some flipper wear on the right side and what looks like some planking in the same area. the flipper bats are color mismatched. The coin door looks good. All of the drop targets are intact. If it is working, then it is a good deal. I usually see these listed in the $700 range.

Features: Inverse Wedge-Head, Mechanical backbox animation
Month/Year: December 1964
Production: 1,674
Cost: $500
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Contact/Link: phoenix.craigslist.org link
Condition: "Game works 100%! This is a single player game with a fun ruleset and with a backglass animation (not many games have this feature)! There are 3 ways to win a Special (replay) on this game: 1. Unlight the A B C D lanes at the top, then rollover the Special light in the outlanes (drains) 2. Rack 9 balls in the backglass animation by hitting the lit holes or outlanes, then hit the center hole to win the special 3. Score a certain number of points (user adjustable). Game play is fast and rubber rings were recently replaced so they are nice and bouncy. Wired for free play so you dont have to feed quarters to it. The playfield has the typical wear from the kickout holes but has been touched up. The Backglass has great colors with no fading or flaking but the bottom right corner was broken at some point in it's life but previous owner has glued it back. I haven't had any issues with it for the time I have owned it. The cabinet is average-above average condition with minimal scratches, no fading and colors look great! This is a great budget friendly pinball for the man cave or gameroom. Has the bells for that classic pinball sound. All of the lights work and I'll include a few extra bulbs. Come by and check it out. I will show you the game works 100% but please note that I can't be responsible for it after it leaves my possession."

Manufacturer: Bally
Game/Type: Four Million BC / EM 4 Player
Features: Zipper Flippers, Multiball
Month/Year: November 1970
Production: 3,550
Cost: $950 OBO
Location: Pleasant Hills (Pittsburgh), PA
Contact/Link: pittsburgh.craigslist.org link
Condition: "Nice clean player's condition Four Million B.C. Pinball by Bally (1971). Freshly shopped, 100% working, and plays as it should. Thoroughly cleaned top to bottom, all stainless polished, legs polished with new leg levelers and jam nuts. New correct flipper bats installed along with complete rubber kit and all GI bulbs replaced. Entire playfield thoroughly cleaned and waxed. The playfield does have some planking and typical paint loss at the "smoke trail" and pop bumpers. Has 3 new balls for the unique 3-ball multiball that this game features. The cabinet is all original except for the trim around the backglass being painted black. I personally like the look so I left it alone. The backglass is in absolutely beautiful condition. Overall a nice original example. All of the hard and tedious work is complete, it needs nothing, and can be enjoyed as is. Or, if someone is skilled with an airbrush, without much work could be near collector quality. These rarely come up for sale...thanks for looking!"

Cost: $800
Location: Trivoli (Peoria), IL
Contact/Link: peoria.craigslist.org link
Condition: "One of the top Williams reverse wedgeheads of this era due to theme and great playability. They don't come up for sale very often. I bought this game working last year and have enjoyed it but it's time to move it on. I just finished cleaning and waxing the playfield and placing new rubber rings. I left it original as I bought it. The previous owner had fabricated a plywood back door (missing) for the game and painted the legs grey. He also touched up the backglass the best he could - Shay Arcade sells backglasses for this game.. The cabinet is good with your normal imperfections for this era. The playfield is good with some flipper drag above the lower flippers which you see on a lot of games from this era. I have more pics of the mechanicals inside the game and back of the game - if you're interested I can send them."

Cost: $425
Location: Lancaster (Los Angeles), CA

Condition: "This is not a ridiculously overpriced Craigslist project machine, that will need to be restored and serviced, etc. etc. just so you can play it. This is a Classic Gottlieb EM that is ready for your game room. It will bring you back to the days when you played these classic pinballs in the arcade in the 70's. It has been stripped down, all posts and plastic ball gates were replaced, all new rubber installed, playfield waxed, touched up, and clear coated. All playfield chrome parts and screw heads have been polished. It plays as it did back in the day, with all the glorious sounds of the older mechanical pinball machines. Every feature and all scoring is working 100%. I am only selling because my collection is getting too large for my current house. It will come with the original schematics. The pinball is setup and ready. I spent more money on the parts and my time than I am asking for this great classic pinball. My pictures should accurately show you the condition."

Ro Go Flyer (resized).pngRo Go Flyer (resized).png

I played a brand new Ro Go at Aladdin's Castle and thought it was a beautiful and fun game.

"With New LUCKY Horseshoe Feature"

The horseshoe was definitely lucky for the operator. If I remember correctly, it was 50/50 whether the ball drained straight down the middle or not after shooting it.
