Quoted from AlexF:

Many have argued that the Space Lab production is higher than 30. It's a game that seems to pop up for sale far too often for it to be that low. I would agree that it looks pretty boring but many seem to enjoy it.
Alex

The spread of serial numbers reported in ipsndb would suggest WAY more...

Wms Gulf Stream for $75:

up.craigslist.org link

(yes, seventy-five bucks).

About as close to free as you can get without being a relative.
Looks like it would clean up too. Hopefully someone can save it.

Quoted from hoov:

On Mr. Pinball Classifieds today:
In dirtflipper's area (he probably has it home by now)
Hit The Deck, 1978 Gottlieb: $800.00
Works great fun to play will consider a motorcycle for the pin thanks carl.
Carl
[email protected], Forest Lake, Minnesota 55025
Got a motorcycle?

(realize that Mr. Pinball is on a 3-day delay, while CL is not though...)

#652 10 years ago
Quoted from hoov:

Nice grab! If I wasn't 3 1/2 hrs. away it would be in my storage closet - wait that's full - my barn right now.

pile on - yeah, if it weren't, um, 8 hours away, through I-90 construction, tolls, and Bears... But it was very tempting! (It's a run I've done before, and it was painful.)

#653 10 years ago

darn double post

#698 10 years ago
Quoted from Pin-it:

What is this?? Wonder if its someone here from Pinside?
EVEL KINEVEL PINBALL MACHINE - $700 (FLINT)
flint.craigslist.org link

For the last several months on the Flint CL there has been an ad posted nearly daily for a home version of EK. Following suit, this 'copy cat' ad has been posted right after it. This has been going on for six months or more. Every day. (Really.)

If you watch CL ads enough, and can catch them, there are actually several 'ad wars' that take place in various locales. Chicago gets a lot, but they flare up in other cities too.

#700 10 years ago

The correct lockdown bar can be a bit hard to find (if it's missing; not shown in the picture), but that looks like a very promising deal for that title.

#840 10 years ago
Quoted from Pin-it:

1950s Pinball Machine - $1200 (Upper East Side)
newyork.craigslist.org link
Where is this pictured at ,a flea market.

Sweet. Usually the playfields on those are completely worn out down to bare wood. This one looks very promising all around. Hope it gets to a good home.

#909 10 years ago
Quoted from Pafasa:

Gottlieb Pro Football Pinball $600
minneapolis.craigslist.org link
Anyone see this yet?

It's been posted a couple times, no takers. It's a Pro Football... (ducking now).

But, it's local to me if someone really wants it!

#913 10 years ago
Quoted from AlexF:

What no drop targets no love? I think it looks fun. I have a potential lead on one a lot closer and cheaper.

Plenty to like on it, and I've played it before. But, when comparing to all the other 70's 3" flipper single-player wedgeheads, and stack rank them, it gets squeezed to middle of the pack or lower (and that's not just me, that's just where the market values like to land). Hard title to find with a good backglass though. Just falls in with the other late '72-'74 titles that get overshadowed by the '75-'78 era games.

Closer and cheaper are always good though. Would be a fine game to restore and play for awhile until space ran out again.

#916 10 years ago

I've seen them be a tough sell even at $450, just depends on the condition and location. Not the type of game that folks would pay to have shipped. But fun for a local pickup on the cheap.

#920 10 years ago
Quoted from hoov:

You got to realize too df is in an area where em's come up for sale more often than other areas of the country.

yeah... but not always good ones! (I still have too many shipped in, *because* they don't pop up locally.)

#923 10 years ago
Quoted from hoov:

The only reason I said that was because a guy up Twin Cities way bought a cherry Abra Ca Dabra from me about 9 years ago. I should have never sold that game (knocking head against wall). Anyway, he only has room for a couple games and he's always sending me CL links for GTB em's. I've never made the drive up there though. Almost makes me want to move.........)

Plenty to go around... come on up!

#1020 10 years ago

Here's a nice looking Grand Prix near me:

minneapolis.craigslist.org link

(I've no interest in it, and don't know the seller.)

#1133 10 years ago

Mibs for $150:

nh.craigslist.org link

(gotta be worth that in parts alone, but the cab's repainted from the looks of it)

#1134 10 years ago

Cross Town for $250:

delaware.craigslist.org link

(another cab repaint, but the rest might have promise. Good player candidate.)

#1135 10 years ago

Space Odyssey for $500:

westernmass.craigslist.org link

(might be a bit high on that one, as a project)

#1141 10 years ago
Quoted from Pafasa:

Either the picture is skewed, or the head on the mibs is very messed up. almost like it has been dropped or hit on the left side.

I think it might be a 'fish eye' lens picture or such, rather than the actual backbox.

#1145 10 years ago
Quoted from ccotenj:

enable... enable... enable...
maybe you can score that "sing along" that is sitting next to it at the same time...

The Sing Along is also for sale, but the playfield needs some help.

siouxfalls.craigslist.org link

#1146 10 years ago
Quoted from ccotenj:

email sent on this one... let's see if i can break my streak of "cl non-responses"...

Calling the number in the ad might yield better results. Lots of folks don't respond to emails from CL ads (especially if you don't provide a phone number when replying) when they've provided a number to call.

#1215 10 years ago
Quoted from ccotenj:

that machine looks SWEET in the pics... $1000 is a nice price for that... figure almost 500 for the repro glass and door parts alone...

I think the cab looks to be repainted on the BaB. Caveat emptor.

#1219 10 years ago
Quoted from ccotenj:

quirky is good...

i assumed that if it looked that "clean", it was a repaint... it appears to be a rather good one though....

Hmm, have another, closer look at it.

(colors, webbing, visible brush strokes, pattern...)

#1233 10 years ago
Quoted from stashyboy:

Up in Bean-town-
boston.craigslist.org link
Don't see this one very often. Looks to be in very good original shape.

Wow, that's surprising to have lasted. Nice game, price isn't crazy.

#1241 10 years ago
Quoted from ccotenj:

world series (aab) - $350 - worcester ma
worcester.craigslist.org link
even though i'm not an aab guy, i wouldn't mind one of these...

The last one of these on ebay sold for $1388:

ebay.com link: 1972 Gottlieb World Series Pinball Machine Extremely Rare Only 775 Made

Might not be a bad pickup to enjoy awhile and then pass along.

Just sayin....

#1246 10 years ago
Quoted from stashyboy:

Yea, I thought that too about the Flipper Parade. I think the flipper series is somewhat of a specialty market. You have to like AABs, and early 60's style game play. There are far less collectors that remember these games from their youth-that don't already own them.....Not like an Eldorado, C-37 etc. where modern game collectors see them and think they are sexy and want to own one-sometimes just as a status symbol.

It's also on ebay (poorly listed):
ebay.com link: itm

But it looks really, really nice. At least there are more pics. Someone should snatch this up. Just don't see them in this condition. This one's a gem (based on the pics).

#1249 10 years ago
Quoted from Shapeshifter:

No. it's not - gone already!

Hmm, that's odd. The short form link isn't working. Try this one:

ebay.com link: itm

It's item 221288887695.

#1251 10 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Solar City really is a great game, but you're killing me with that $300 price tag (especially since I now own two).

If it makes you feel better, there's this one:

Decent cheap EM projects for $200 on Long Island:
newyork.craigslist.org link

#1446 10 years ago
Quoted from ccotenj:

looks decent too... i like the opening subway doors... i'm a sucker for bg animation...
aab version of cross town (a recent "no call back" on cl)... i think his production numbers are off though, it would be pretty rare to have more aab's produced than replays?

No call back? Ad's been refreshed yesterday too?
delaware.craigslist.org link

#1447 10 years ago

Rough and tough Egg Head - but only $150:

lexington.craigslist.org link

#1460 10 years ago

Hmm, looks vaguely familiar... hmmm.

#1461 10 years ago
Quoted from ccotenj:

didn't even know it was there... and that is literally right next door to both me and bert...

Go ask. Probably didn't go far. And is now sitting in someone else's garage because they dragged it home and today are wondering why they heck they did that and what they're going to do with it...

#1472 10 years ago
Quoted from ccotenj:

does this belong to someone we know? or is it one that used to belong to you?

Not mine. Good lookin' King Pin and C-37 in the background too though. Hmmm.

Free Wms Pat Hand:

#1669 10 years ago
Quoted from boilerman:

I do want a flying carpet, thanks for looking out for me. I just got a sweet hearts so my wish list is down to just a few. drop a card and flying carpet are the two i just can not find locally in decent condition. they are not very sought after machines so I do not know why i can not find them. I am in no rush i do not even have room for what i have now.

Agree on Flying Carpet, but Drop A Card has been a hotter title more recently from the ones I've seen sell, even unrestored.

#1711 10 years ago
Quoted from boilerman:

DIRT> what have you been getting for unrestored DaC?
i do like the 2" flipper game more than the 3" 2001 +2" flippers great combo
i like the flow on the DaC the art is not bad but not great compaired to some other card themes

Locally here, unrestored have gone 500-700, shopped - north of 1K. Cosmetics greatly factor into it of course. I've not had a DaC since 1996, but have been casually keeping an eye out for another one, and have missed out because of the higher prices (I'm OK with that; I have too many games anyway). But I was surprised at the strong interest in the title, compared to just a couple years ago (when I wasn't looking for one, of course).

#1754 10 years ago
Quoted from Pafasa:

Just made a deal today on a captain fantastic. And an abracadabra. And a Royal Guard!
Tell me if anyone knows... Is there some kind of difference with the stars on captain fantastic? Large stars small stars? One more desirable then the other? I have two captains to choose from and the seller lists one with the designation "small stars".
I will need to find a lockdown bar for the royal guard. PBR is out of stock and will not be restocking. Any ideas where to look?

Woot! A multi-pickup.

CF has two different backglasses - one known as 'with stars' and one 'without stars'. The stars were added later to cover up some naughty bits in the artwork. I'm sure it's pointed out online somewhere.

#1756 10 years ago
Quoted from Pafasa:

Thanks dirt. You helped me find these. Would you stars over no stars or would you choose condition first?

Condition, condition, condition. Always condition. And then no-stars. (They supposedly made fewer of them, but with repros out there, that doesn't seem to affect the value any now; more of a novelty thing.)

#1780 10 years ago

Target Pool now down to $250 in TX:
collegestation.craigslist.org link

yeah, the cab is rough, but the playfield and b/g look promising. Can't beat the price, and would make a decent player, if not a nice resto.

#1782 10 years ago

Wms Big Ben for $175 in bean town:
boston.craigslist.org link

#1784 10 years ago

Somebody please snatch this nice 2001 so I'm not tempted:

limaohio.craigslist.org link

Poor pics, but my hunch is it's nice, and price is fair if so.

#1787 10 years ago

*very* collectable game; doubt that will last at that price.

#1788 10 years ago

Not true! I'm also afflicted with woodrails...

southcoast.craigslist.org link

#1854 10 years ago
Quoted from limelime20:

Love this thread, but if we can LIST the city it is in, it would help alot, as, most of us, are looking for a local pick-up
And having to click on every post, just to see it is 3000 miles away, is just heart-breaking, lol...
Thanks....

Understand! Usually the first part of the URL is a pretty good giveaway (since it's the particular CL city). That saves a click at least (but I look anyway, just to see what's popping up around the country).

#1867 10 years ago

"I have had two different pinball specialists appraise it and both said its current value is 1600 and is well worth 2500-2700 in fully restored value."

Oh my.

#1926 10 years ago

We've made SpinACard an honorary wedgehead. Very fun game! Tends to get overshadowed by other Gottliebs, but for a good playing game, it's a great option. Kinda flies under the radar like Abra does (or did?).

#1929 10 years ago

Looks like the ball is stuck in the rightside kickout hole, so might have an issue there to address.

Cosmetics look promising, has decent original paint. I think 700-850 would be more realistic if it's reasonably shopped and working, but hard to say without seeing more of it. As a non-working project, closer to 500 (given the nice cosmetics, give it some credit). Location matters though, so YMMV. Fully and correctly rebuilt, could go higher on a good day, but would take some time.

#1946 10 years ago

Looks like this would clean up (Rochester, NY)

rochester.craigslist.org link

#2079 10 years ago

FWIW, the Bedford seller (Mike) is a good guy.

#2088 10 years ago
Quoted from stashyboy:

Is that Mike Tolley? If so, I got a couple good deals from him a few years back at Allentown. Damn, wish I had room for some of those too! Great selection of titles. Did anyone contact him about particular game prices? (assume the $650 in the ad was for one of the lower priced, but you never know.

No, different Mike. (Can see his listings on Mr. Pinball).

These games have been available for sale for the last year or so, just not well advertised. He's taken some of them to York at least too.

#2220 10 years ago

Good deal on a Lucky Hand:

up.craigslist.org link

And a $50 Bally:
up.craigslist.org link

(both in the UP area of MI)

I figure these have lingered long enough to share here...

#2225 10 years ago
Quoted from AlexF:

He had a King of Diamonds and a Sinbad too. If the Drop a Card was local I'd probably buy it. Sounds a bit blown out for a long distance pick-up though.

Those two are sold. I'd say the descriptions are conservative; both are restorable in the right hands (and space, time, and parts stash...), but are definitely projects. Seller's a good guy.

#2429 10 years ago
Quoted from Pin-it:

fro the sellers descrip. Wth is this> I am selling a 1977 Williams pinball machine hot top it all white soap and you still work until 1 week ago.

I believe they were trying to type that "it all lights up and was working until 1 week ago" before the auto correct feature took over...

#2431 10 years ago
Quoted from Pin-it:

Capt`Card $1500 (Lexington ga) athensga.craigslist.org link <Priced a bit high.

Seems to be a difficult game to find in decent shape. For someone really looking for this title, I'd guess the price is within striking distance at least (without shipping costs involved).

#2771 10 years ago

This one's also listed in the Market section on here.

#2860 10 years ago

Flying Carpet in Chicago now down to $300:

#2868 10 years ago
Quoted from Pin-it:

Bummer about that playfield.

#2871 10 years ago
Quoted from stashyboy:

sierravista.craigslist.org link
Why is this not already sold?! Someone buy this!!

Sierra Vista isn't that big of a town, and it's fairly far from even Tucson. Kinda out in the middle of the desert, and isolated to get to. (Been there before though!)

#2983 10 years ago

Surprised this one has lasted this long (unless the ad just hasn't been deleted):

quadcities.craigslist.org link

#3017 10 years ago

Pretty clean looking Lawman in SoCal:

slo.craigslist.org link

#3043 10 years ago
Quoted from hoov:

The location is great. Too bad the price wasn't lower. That'd be in your holding area about right now.

There's just not much room left on it at that price, even though it would restore nicely. I'm out of "room" anyway.

But, for someone who really wanted the title, they really don't turn up all that often, they are frequently in far worse shape, and this one's plenty restorable. I doubt they'll find a local buyer here at that level though; they'll need to route it on ebay.

#3055 10 years ago
Quoted from Pafasa:

" target="_blank">desmoines.craigslist.org link
Looks interesting. $650 though?

Maybe they'd knock a couple hundred off for thumbtack damage to the side of the backbox?

#3096 10 years ago
Quoted from Pafasa:

I tempted. Looks like I have a deal on that big daddy after all. Grab the bon voyage too? Hmmmmm

For the distance, a multiple-game pickup makes sense when possible/reasonable. I think the general rule of EMs is buy three, sell two, keep one. Repeat.

#3118 10 years ago
Quoted from AlexF:

Being the second last remaining human being without a cell phone I feel your pain. Coincidentally I ran into an issue last weekend where a cell phone would have saved me a headache. I knew the day would come eventually but have been biding my time.
So I set up a meeting at a homeowners house to go check out a pinball I tentatively planned to buy. It was an hour away and I left Saturday morning on time. I get to the sellers house and discover no one home. I hang around for a bit and even go and talk to a neighbor of the seller. In the old days if your car broke down you could knock on someone's door and they would let you use their phone. This guy seemed less than friendly and looked at me kind of odd when I told him I didn't have a cell phone. I'm sure he thought I was up to something. Anyway he didn't even know his neighbors name and wasn't readily willing to call him. Didn't know his neighbors name! You could throw a rock and hit his house. That's where were at now? Anyway I drive into town and stop at an antique shop. It was full of beautiful wedge heads for $50 each. Just kidding, but the nice lady did let me use her phone. I called and got the sellers voice mail. Frustrated I stopped by the sellers house and rapped loudly on the door one last time. He obviously wasn't there so I drove home empty handed in the falling snow.
I arrive home to find a message on my answering machine. The seller had to leave earlier than expected to an appointment of some sort. He called moments before I left the house. Doh! If I had a cell phone it would have saved me the aggravation. Anyway the good point of the story is he was apologetic and said he'd be willing to bargain on the price of the game. So in the end it may still work out. Still no cell phone yet but I'm warming up to the idea.

If your Internet works, there's always Google Voice, or Skype. Then you just use your computer as a phone (and further avoid a cell phone, if that's the goal).

#3170 10 years ago

I'm told there's a pinball forum around here somewhere. Anyone seen it?

Wms Darling for $125 in Green Bay:

greenbay.craigslist.org link

And what sounds like a pitch & bat for $500:

greenbay.craigslist.org link

Quoted from Pafasa:

40 minutes away from me but I'm all tapped out!!!!!
siouxcity.craigslist.org link

Now that's a tough one to pass up!

#3262 10 years ago
Quoted from AlexF:

Forget temptation, just go get the darn thing! When do you ever see 50's pitch and bats for $500? (or less)

#3263 10 years ago
Quoted from Pafasa:

I know! And price is not too far off either!

I have one, but can't resist. I sent a note, darn it all!

Phoenix again-

Pretty fair deal on that one. '54 Gottliebs are a good bunch.

#3277 10 years ago
Quoted from Pafasa:

Good luck! Hope you get it. If you need help, let me know. It is a very short drive for me. It would sure be fun to meet.

Apparently one of those non-responsive CL sellers, so I'm safe!

#3297 10 years ago

I contacted the seller on that one last week and they indicated it had been sold (even though they didn't take down the ad).

#3352 10 years ago
Quoted from AlexF:

Was once a Snow Queen. I always like the art on that one. Pre-custom that is...

yep, I see it now (missed the spinners before). Good catch!

#3361 10 years ago

Snow Derby is a fun game (had one in my early days of collecting a very, very long time ago). Nailing those spinners off the 2-inch flippers is a satisfying shot. Don't see this game very often. Cool retro look to it now.

Quoted from AlexF:

Saw that one, looks like it might be a very nice machine for the money. Never played that title.

I've had a couple Buccaneers, and would get another. Good spinner shot, nice change from the drop target games of the era. The only thing with Buccaneer is that the only way to get the '1' is via the center top rollover, whereas all the other numbers have two ways to get them. So if you don't get the '1', you're stuck.

I'd expect Ship Ahoy is also good, but I'm not familiar with what rules differences there may be.

Now there's a game that just wants to be restored. I'd guess the playfield would be savable under all that dirt. Repro backglass would be the biggest expense, but the game looks to be generally complete. I'd admit this one would need a cab redo, but I bet it would come out nice all done. Would be a terrific before/after tale.

Legs look painted (or replaced). Otherwise, seems pretty nice original (as far as CL pics go). Wms cab paint from this era doesn't seem to hold up well, so that's always something to look at closely.

I've used Goo Gone to remove stickers like those on Gtb aprons, with no ink loss. And by just letting it soak, often I can lift up the stick intact, and then glue it back down on an index card or something else to save it. Then I just keep it with the game paperwork.

I even use some Magic Eraser to clean up the apron with water.

The problem with the ink is any type of solvent, degreaser, or such. Goo Gone and Goop hand cleaner both seem to work OK. But alcohol, Simple Green, Krud Kutter, any of that type of stuff will wipe off the ink in an instant.

The only issue with removing the stickers is that if the rest of the apron has yellowed at all, a 'shadow' can remain where the sticker was.

It's fine to leave them on though. Some stickers are more interesting than others.

FWIW, bostonpinball.biz is actually just a website, not a book, and it tracks ebay pinball machine 'sold' listings (so unsold games are not included in the stats).

I can't comment on whether "most" ebay auctions are truly the unwanted or overpriced though.

What is a good price for Sweet Hearts? One very local to me is available. It has some playfield wear but supposed works 100%

jacksonville.craigslist.org link

Hard to tell quite what's going on with the playfield near the gobble hole, whether that's just ink flaking, or if those are scratches, or what. Backglass does look promising though. But cosmetics drive the price much more than it working (much easier to make work than get nice cosmetics).

Just from the pictures, I'd guess in the 350-500 range, with some upside potential with work put into it. The playfield is a liability though, if those are gouges and not just some flaking ink (although flaking ink is bad enough).

The cost range runs 350-450, depending on distance and current fuel costs (sometimes it's higher, sometimes lower). Two games costs about the same, so we often try to find a pair to bundle, then split the cost with someone, or amortize it across the two.

Quoted from Pafasa:

What do you see in these pics that brings you to that price? I was thinking less based an all the flaking cabinet paint. Maybe $350-400

For the era of game, that cab looks decent to me. But I like original, so tend to give it more latitude I suppose.

The quality of the pictures make it really hard to judge though. I'd hope for 300-350, and be prepared to go up to 500 if the playfield is nice and the backglass doesn't need to be replaced.

Basically, figure what you'd be able to sell it for after a restore (or whatever work is done on it), back out parts costs and whatever buffer you're comfortable with, and that's the number. They are a slow sell beyond 800-ish it seems.

assuming it was done "right" (full teardown/refurbish... no mods... ), what would be the value on that?

Double to triple.

I wasn't kidding when I said go grab it.

But I'm assuming they've gotten flooded with inquiries by now, and it's sold for more than the asking.
(I'd also assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that folks knew the glass had been repro'd.)

If that's not an April Fools joke then that is a heck of a deal!
