Quoted from Sea_Wolf:

Here’s an example of that thinking on eBay.

This machine has been listed multiple times for $500 with no takers, so the seller now has it for sale for $700. Sounds much better I guess.

And this time comes with a threat: "I will be parting it out if it doesn't sell this time around."

Quoted from tfduda:

Got a laugh out of this. Also said they relisted it (for $700) after having a non-paying bidder for $500. WTH?

I like that cabinet! Think it will clean up okay?

The dirtiest cabinet I've ever come across. It will clean up nice.

Before and after. Used strong ammonia solution and a toothbrush, then Purple Power and Magic Eraser pads. Graphics are a bit faded, but it's looking very decent. This game sat for a long time, and seems largely unmolested. The playfield looks just about perfect. Backglass is very good too. Has schematic, backbox door, and cashbox! I'm a happy guy!

Steal of the century

#17411 2 years ago
Quoted from pinwiztom:

Steal of the century

I feel very fortunate.
I wasn't expecting much based on the photo in the ad. Then I get there, and it's dark as heck where the machine is. I used the flashlight on my cell phone to give it a quick scan. I figured I can't go wrong for $100.
Threw it in the van, and got it home. The more I look, the more I like. I'm really glad I jumped on it.

#17412 2 years ago

Great, unusual title.

Anytime one of these games re-emerges from a dark basement corner, the entire hobby wins.

JR - Hopefully you'll bring it to Pinfest next year for free play, would love to give it a try.

Guy says it was given to him some 20 years ago, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was even longer ago. Apparently, it was not working, and he never did anything with it, except break the top glass. There were some odds and ends on the playfield, but considering it sat uncovered for some time, it's in remarkable condition.

I'd like to, but I usually only bring "for sale" games to the shows.
We'll see.

Airing everything out.

Sounds like you need to put it up for sale.

#17419 2 years ago
Quoted from Gotemwill:

Nope. Was a wish listed game. Maybe I'll bring it anyway though. It'll need some work. Plugged it in for the first time, and within minutes something started smoking. I might need to reach out to the early Bally experts out there on this one. Cleaned up the legs, and they came out great. Not sure if they're the correct originals though. They look to be regular issue Gottlieb 31"ers. I thought Ballys of this era had those chunky light grey painted legs. But, they're OK.
Too bad the top glass isn't standard size. Now it's going to cost me for just a single sheet of custom tempered. Not complaining though. Loving this game!

#17420 2 years ago

Haven’t had the chance to dig into a Bally game yet. They seem like a different animal every time I play one though.

They are a different animal, but this era game has the tiered cam score motor arrangement that Gottlieb used throughout. Can't be much different than a Gottlieb.

JR - You can handle this, I've only done a few early Bally's and they are definitely a little different but I'm sure you expertise will prevail on shoppign out this game.

There we go; I've got you thinking on this, would be nice to play.

#17423 2 years ago

Thanks. I brought a totally wrecked Bally "Mad World" back to life, so this shouldn't be much of a problem. But it's nice to know that Pinside is such a wonderful reservoir of knowledge that can be tapped whenever needed.
I'm primarily a Gottlieb guy, but I have a schematic for this game, and it shouldn't be too difficult to get this ol' gal going again.

If your local glass places are crazy high (mine were), you can get a piece from here...

https://www.onedayglass.com/

Cost me $75.93 shipped for Jolly Ride. I called a couple local places and they were all over well over $100 and about the same amount of time.

#17425 2 years ago

Man, what a clean unmolested game!
Any idea what that giant coil in the middle of the bottom board does?

#17426 2 years ago

Trip bank reset, most likely.

I just bought 2 tempered playfield glass pieces from a local glass shop and they were $55 apiece. They went up in price from $46 a year ago.

Must just be a location thing.

#17428 2 years ago

Both tempered and plate glass have doubled in price in my area. Been waiting a month for a tempered glass. Used to take about two weeks.

#17429 2 years ago

Love the fact that the Hay-Ride is an AAB and how AABs are counted with a credit wheel instead of lights as was normal.
Got to be very rare with probably less than 25 left in existence.
Only other one I have seen was in Sam Harvey collection.

I have seen a few of them around over the years. Of course, I'm in add-a-ball land. There are lots of Bally titles of this era with much higher production numbers which I have never seen, or maybe just an odd one. "Wild Wheels" for example. Only ever saw one of those.

#17431 2 years ago

I've never seen a "Sheba".

Thanks for the tip. I'll check my local glass guy and I'll be ready to clutch my chest when he quotes me a price!

#17433 2 years ago
Quoted from jrpinball:

"Wild Wheels" for example

My Wild Wheels has ser# WW1001
and the wiring harness has the wires
hard soldered from CAB to the Head, with no Jones plugs.
My goal this year, is to finally set it up for play,
now that my new flooring is installed in the basement.

That's so cool! Post some pix.

#17435 2 years ago

Got to dig it out of storage first
also want to set my MataHari EM also
along with Team One and Dimension
and maybe moth ball a couple of the solid states
that do not get much play, mostly cause they are not working.
I have more confidence working on EMs than solid states.

But would this non-standard-size glass be available there?

That you would have to ask Ivan.

Hello

Not really my cup of tea, but he wants it gone and reasonably cheap.

Seems like a good deal for somebody. Lockdown bar alone is worth over $100.

Desert mule not included.

Quite the catch for someone if EM.

#17446 6 months ago

I've thought about it and this is probably a legit ad. But why would a Bally need new score reels since they work better than most?

No, a buyer probably said without score reels it's not worth as much.

And that Adler Billiards label must be really old. If you look at the phone number. Although there still is such a place in a different location.

I still remember our phone number when I was a kid in 1969-70. On our rotary phone it said TWinbrook-55945.

40 year olds today…”what’s a rotary phone?”
