Quoted from Agent_Hero:

This and the Mr. & Mrs. Pac-Man have been listed for months, on CL and Ebay. I wondered why Heat Wave has lasted so long since it seems to be a popular title. Paint pattern being incorrect seems like a minor complaint since it looks decent and it's not a crazy high price.

Agree. Offers on machines like that don’t usually last long on Craigslist.

Nice original condition on this 60 year old game.

Something weird about that Golden Bells BG
pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

My game's main background is white not blue.
Here is typical BG with White.

The first review on IPDB says he had one with a white backglass and one with blue backglass.

#17355 3 years ago

I guess it could be due to fading, but all the Golden Bells games that I owned (2) and also played, all had the white background.
My current game's glass does have some Reds fading to pinkish but different shades of fade,
The white is just too uniform thruout to likely be due to fade.

Yes, faded for sure. Note the 500,000 on the backglass is white as well, yet the same shade of blue in the other backglass. Strange though how reds usually fade out more than blues, but this definitely is a fade issue. Must be the light blue color

#17357 3 years ago

I doubt it's due to fade. All the Golden Bells I've seen have had the white glass also. As mentioned above reds are usually the color most prone to fade.

I'm guessing it's like Rocket where some early production games had a different glass variation.

#17358 3 years ago

The light blue must have been super susceptible to a quick fade, because prior to this every Golden Bells
that i have seen was always a bright white background, and at same time some usual red fading
but those reds always tended to fade to various shades of light red or pink or tan.
The fact that the white is so uniform gives me some cause for suspension of blue to white fading.

The BG does look better with white background, makes the WMS logo and games name really pop out better.

#17359 3 years ago

Would need to see if Duncan Brown or Pacak or Sam Harvey
might have some press photos of the orgiinal game, even in B&W one should be able to tell if background is blue or white.

From ipdb flyer
its still hard to tell
pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

But Based on the 500,000 and 50,000 scores, I might tend to agree that they might have been light blue on original games (samples/proto)
and maybe changed to white with regular production.

#17360 3 years ago

I believe a reproduction was made of this glass (Shay?). I wonder if it's white or blue.

I just checked Shay's website, and it is listed. However, at least on my computer "Rocket", "Golden Bells" and "Golden Gloves" are grayed out.

#17362 3 years ago

A bit pricey I think for a Golden Bells.

What to make of this? Same Aladdin’s Castle Machine, same picture. One at an estate sale in Glencoe Illinois and one for free in a 3rd floor apartment in Niles near Chicago. Serial killer in the apartment?

I'm guessing they will ask for a deposit to hold it for you and rip you off, but either way, yeah that's sketchy.

That would make sense. Bait you with the “Free” offer and then ask for a deposit for a machine they obviously don’t have.

Don't beat yourself up. The CL ad was listed around noon on Friday and I replied within about 25 minutes. Usually when something gets posted here (48 hours later in this case), the line has already formed or has already been picked up.

Depends on the seller too. Some will honor first reply and others will turn it into an auction.

It all comes down to timing and I have missed my share too.

I love my Rocket, this is a fun game for a flipperless.

#17384 2 years ago

Sold my Rocket a while ago. For a flipperless, it was actually pretty neat!

I fell in love with the backglass, but ultimately decided I'd rather see someone enjoy the pin.

#17385 2 years ago

Anybody out there that can comment on this machine? I had a chance to buy this machine 2 years ago but I hesitated to pay the $850 asking price. He states that he put it in storage and now it’s only $550.

I just missed and he has someone picking it up tonight but I’m next in line I guess if the sale falls through. Looks like it would be pretty in a lineup. Thanks.

Lady Luck is a great game...so many ways to win and the traveling pop bumper special feature is so cool. That is too expensive for me, but a great woodrail and the game that made me understand that the 50's pins were innovative and not much different than the em's that came later in he 60's and 70's.

Great to see these games pop up every now and again. Price seems steep. I think the list of woodrail titles still bringing that kind of money is narrowing.

I think there's plenty of collectors who would pay up for an A-list woodrail in nice condition. This is one of those!

I’ll give the seller some props. He bravely recommends try before you buy at $850. That’s a sure deal killer for this snooze-fest, unless you just want to look at it.

As Eugene Levy the car salesman in ‘Vacation’ told Clark Griswold “you think you hate it now but wait till you drive it”.

I think the seller increased the price from 750 to 850. Maybe
It's a good way to market a game today.

Ha. I think there’s some truth to that. A recent seller on eBay relisted a 60s EM for $1050 that didn’t sell for $900.

Of course, It didn’t sell then either but that must have been the same thinking process.

Here’s an example of that thinking on eBay.

This machine has been listed multiple times for $500 with no takers, so the seller now has it for sale for $700. Sounds much better I guess.
