That's an exceptional playfield for High Hand.

#12153 8 years ago

that was my thought also, I don't think I ever say one without kickout hole wear spot!

Quoted from DirtFlipper:

Elderly couple had it for 25 years in basement...didn't sound like it got much play, especially after it "stopped working" however many years ago. Just the orange-ish pants on the backglass for some reason flaked...the reds are pretty good. I sealed it and put a red/orange frosted LED behind the pants--looks decent actually.

I concur, that was the first thing I looked for... and was very surprised not to see any.

I don't think someone wanting that game could do too much better, at least on the playfield.

Seems like someone did that glass too but I believe they're long gone.

But if you could get lucky and dig one up, you would have an exceptional game.

Great find!

#12156 8 years ago

BR resto has done that one. High hand - It's in their files, they can make it.

#12157 8 years ago

Shay still has High Hand backglasses on website unless it is out of date.

#12158 8 years ago

Any opinion on Shay vs. BGresto? Shay is $295 plus $62 ship. I was thinking BG was closer to $250.

#12159 8 years ago

1. Shay - still uses original factory silk-screened ink method - a little more expensive but well worth the extra $$$$ - Shay or Ron Webb would be my 1st choice

2. Bgresto - good product and cheaper but does not look as good backlit due to process - use them only if you can't get a Shay or Ron Webb glass

My 2 cents....

#12160 8 years ago

Shay or Webb is first choice if available. Faithful silk-screening process like the originals.

#12161 8 years ago

Dude has a case of the rashes. Is that all supposed to be a red?

#12162 8 years ago

Use Shay and Webb

#12163 8 years ago

Whenever possible.

CC Big League Baseball for $500 in Phx:

Looks nice.

#12166 8 years ago

Assuming I was looking at a BGResto Nipply Jumping Jack at the Recent PAGG, I was very disappointed in the product.

1. They add a black line around the score reel windows.
2. The score reel windows did not line up (there was a second game there with the same resto glass and alignment issue).
3. As has been mentioned, the pigment is very dark and usually requires bright LEDs to compensate.
4. Some of the colors are incorrect. On JJ, the blues and purples were way off (to my eyes).

#12167 8 years ago

Here's a cheap one: Jolly Roger $150

It really does just need a "fuse". Well, a fuse holder or 4, anyway......

Free pre-flipper game in NJ:
jerseyshore.craigslist.org link

Thanks for the Heads-up Dirt Flipper! I was in the neighborhood, so I picked up the pre-flipper game. Turns out to be a United Tropicana

I realize that most people post their greatest pinball purchases, while saying, "Neener-Neener-Neener!" I, on the other hand, am posting this so everyone can see what they didn't miss.

This machine came out of a shed that had been partially damaged by Hurricane Sandy. How many more Sandy-damaged games am I going to be coming across? Anyway, part of the roof came down and broke the playfield glass. There are some spots on the playfield that have some de-lamination. I assume from the storm. The backglass isn't broken, but is in pretty sorry condition. The coin-door and the head's back panel are missing.

On the positive side, it seems otherwise complete, and doesn't look like it would take much to get it mechanically working. Of course, it would be a labor of love. I have to decide if I have that kind of love...

I'm looking at a tropicana for possible purchase but the cabinet was painted black. Maybe you would be able to get me stencils of the cabinet paint for repainting it?

Sure. Let me know

#12172 8 years ago

Will do. I haven't decided whether to get the Tropicana or a bingo machine.

Quoted from AlexF:

Fire Queen is the more desirable of the two. Cooler back glass.

I always liked the look of this one. It has that woodrail feel in a wedge cab.

Very challenging game

Yes, perhaps a little 'too' challenging.

Never!

#12183 8 years ago

Well... that's true, Odin.

Better than too easy, aye?

#12184 8 years ago

Yep, the easy ones are no longer with me.

#12185 8 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Hmmm, you oughta come over and play my 4 Roses.

Doubt you'd be saying it was too easy.

And the thing is... I've 'made' it an easier game by giving it a liberal tilt and lowering it down some.

And it's STILL rough and tough! Just the way you like 'em!!

#12186 8 years ago

I could put it back the way it was... and you'd never be able to beat it.

Well... I don't know about 'never'... but seldom beat it.

#12187 8 years ago

I like games I can't beat. Keeps me coming back for more...

#12188 8 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

I can see 'hard to beat'... but I don't know about "can't beat".

I like games I can beat... at least 'once in awhile'.

But...

This is a land of many beliefs.

well said! a game that doesn't let me have a good game one in awhile isn't much fun.. one that stands out for me is Corral. it is a high rated game but it is very hard( for me at least ) so has a very low fun factor.
then there is egg head kicks my but most of the time but once in a while I get a stellar game where you would think it is to easy. then it's back to kicking my arse!

Probably why I play Spot A Card so much - it's just so hard that I keep trying to beat it and boy, the one time I got over 1000 points felt epic

#12191 8 years ago

I didn't care much for Corral. Not so much that it was hard, just that it wasn't much fun. But yes it was hard. A game like Big Daddy is very hard especially on three ball play, but it is fun while it beats you up.

big daddy is a hard game but when you are in the zone you can kick its arse!

#12194 8 years ago

I need to get back in the zone!

Damn near impossible to beat that game!

Nice-looking Gottlieb Vulcan for sale ($450) in the Seattle area: seattle.craigslist.org link

This would be a good deal for someone close and with the skills to do a cabinet repaint. Backglass, cabinet trim and playfield look good!

$200 for an Ice Revue, even with a painted cabinet, is a steal.
