Just the top was brass an plated. It was glued to a regular base like the others are spot welded to.
It is identical to the stainless steel ones of that era.

I heard from a reliable source that some of the early versions of the gold edition might have had a solid brass lockdown bar. I am looking to confirm this and hoping someone has pictures of one.

I am sure there wasn't just plated brass like most are ,the base was metal

I’ve heard of this as well and in fact I may have even seen one years ago if I recall correctly.
Nope they were never solid brass as others have said. Brass plated only which is why most needed replacing over the years.
Very first ones were solid brass.
About a decade ago, Z Plating put one of these in a tumbler and basically desolved it by mistake. Their customer was very upset, obviously. Z Plating called me asking if PBL could make just one in solid brass and I said that this was entirely cost prohibitive.
The solid brass lockdown bars are very, very rare. If Robert from Z Plating is still active in the hobby and reads Pinside, maybe he will chime in here and confirm.
At the time I had Pat Lawlor (whom I do not personally know) confirm the existence of these solid brass lockdown bars through Joe Balcer (whom I do know).
I am really hoping to find more information on the one I have. It’s solid brass (cast) and it’s got some weight to it. The mounting tabs are stainless steel and attached with screws and nuts. Someone sure went through a lot of trouble to make this. It’s an interesting piece whether it came from an early version of Addams Family gold or not.

Yes for sure it does look like it was cast out of brass and how thick it is
This one come on my TAFG. I had it cleaned and cleared coated. I am not sure if it was a original part or not. DB0B11E0-5995-49E6-945C-A155AA306880 (resized).jpeg

Thank you! There is another one! That is pretty much the same as mine, a solid cast brass lockdown bar. I see yours only has one screw holding the mounting tabs to the solid brass part and mine has 2 screws but I’d be willing to bet these were made by the same person/company. Would love to know the origin of these.
I picked up my TAFG in 1995 and it had a similar brass lockdown bar as pictured above but had a steel plate either glued or welded to it. The sides of it where the hands rest had dulled a bit, but I believe it to be solid brass and not brass plated? Though I’m not sure? Otherwise wouldn’t the wear spots be silver in color? When I got my game, I ordered a new one from WMS and the replacement was also the same. I've kept the worn one on my game to play, fearful that the replacement I got would look the same way after a while. I remember the price being expensive at the time, and I think I ordered it through Mazzco, which eventually got bought out by Happ. Below are pictures of the one that came on my game and the replacement I got from WMS.

It is brass. Then plated. Polishing brass wouldn't give the same shine.

That makes sense. It's too bad that the plating wears off to show the dull brass underneath. I've seen at least one other TAFG on location that had the same wear patterns in the lockdown bar.

Interesting. That one is different. It appears to be solid brass but stamped and it has a normal undercarriage. Thank you for sharing. I’m wondering why there was ones that were cast when a tool already existed to make the piece.

Perhaps it is a prototype, or was a sample from a different vendor to see what was available? It’s interesting to see that yours appears to be cast.

Somebody reproduced them years later. I've seen a couple like that.
The person doing that didn't have access to what Williams used.

Wow! Anyone know who made the cast ones? How many were made? It would have been so much easier to have a normal lockdown bar plated if they were just trying to replicate an original.

No idea who or where. I would guess 15 years ago or so.
It was heavy and weird.
