    I replaced one on my Space Shuttle recently. One lead had separated from he resistor. I cut the other lead off of the resistor and soldered the new resistor to he existing leads. I also bumped up the resistor wattage from 7 to 10 watts. Physically a little longer but should run cooler.

    A lot of folks say no it doesn't matter. I like to install them in a position which gives adequate air flow .
