The furnace kicks in quite a few times an hour, yup. Its frickin' freezing outside. If you've never felt it, it really is quite something.
I should try the boiling water and throw it and video it tonight, its quite the thing to see.
It’s a culture shock for me here some days. Now I’m not used to the minus 36 prarie weather coming from southern ontario, but down here they react differnent to some snow. they’ll close schools with a threat of snow. Today i went to get my WV driver’s license finally. My Ontario one can’t be transferred 
. They weren’t doing road tests due to icy conditions. Plus 5 with clear roads and zero chance of ice....ugh.
+39c here in Perth, Western Australia. Lets do a small swap of say 15 deg c to make it more comfortable 
Should be interesting to watch the AFC championship game Sunday night, it’s supposed to be around -2 degrees at kickoff and go down from there.

Everything is quite insulated. Walls are 2x6 exterior and most attics are blown in insulation above the ceiling.
So be honest, I bet most of the same insulation properties are used as the deep south in homes where they are trying to keep the heat out, as we try to keep the cold out and the heat in.
My bills are still higher in the summer with the Air Conditioner running than the winter with the furnace running and burning natural gas.
I have 3 em machines out in the garage. I make sure to bring the backglasses inside with extreme temperatures. I’m sure it’s not too great leaving the playfields out there either.

OK, I just fired up the wifeys kettle, and tried the boiling water toss. It's take 3 because I filled the measuring cup the first two times too high and basically splashed boiling water at my own face the first two times because i'm an effin dumbass. fml.

Yup. You havent lived till you've walked outside and instantly your snot freezes and your face hurts.
Once we had a contractor in town when it was -20. We told him about the water truck. He didnt believe us. When we got to our clients site he ran in, grabbed hot water and threw it. It blew his mind! Later that day I heard him on the phone talking to people back home about it. I just laughed.
-30 here with the wind chill. Supposed to warm up to -5 by the end of the weekend....break out the shorts!!

I've spent hours and hours outside in -30 and colder with zero wind, just bundled up properly and its not a huge deal. But once the wind becomes a factor - forget about it.
This morning it was -37.......... so suck it -36.
Truck even started again (good thing it was plugged in!!). Wifey had to run the boys to the rink. They are both reffing PeeWee hockey games today.
It's "Hockey Day Minnesota" today. Basically a bunch of high school teams, and a few select college teams, play in games all day at a select city outdoors. This year is in Bemidji, MN, on a lake.
This morning, when the puck dropped for two HS teams, Minnetonka and Andover, it was -30F (-34C). Yikes!
However, it's fun to watch from your 70F living room.
My Dad was born and raised in Erie, PA @ 24F as I write this. Mom was born and raised in Moosejaw SK Canada @ 2F. They meet in California. I live about a mile away from them in Huntington Beach California @ 53F at about 9am Sat. Glad they went to California.

Awesome, I lived in Moose Jaw for a couple years, great city. It usually fairly decent for weather as it is the very tail end of the chinooks coming out near Calgary moving east.

OK, just did the bubble thing, the bubble froze after a second or two, easy to see that, but it just still kinda looks like a bubble, it rose very quickly straight up though. I'm sure the air as i'm standing in the doorway and my breath is considerably warmer than the air and it just rose

Well, basically the cold would be the only deterrent, seriously.
It`s absolutely beautiful in this province. It may be cold and/or snowy, but it's not raining all winter or ever in the winter. Outsiders may think it flat and boring, but that's generalization and only in the south central part of the province. People think that because where the TransCanada highway runs, its boring as fuck. But we have 100,000 lakes, unreal skies, the most sunshine in Canada, beautiful boreal forest and rolling hills in the Canadian shield....I could go on and on. Don't mention costs of living is a fraction of the west coast or Ontario.

It’s always colder here. I lived near fargo for a bit and it felt like I was on a tropical vacation.
Winter hobbies.. people wonder why we live here but I think if it was nice every day it would bother me.
I have automatic and deep respect for anybody that comes from a colder place than me (Iowa).
The coldest I remember was -28F. That was ~10 years ago. The pipes in my pizza place burst. That really made me happy. I miss Iowa, but I don't miss the cold. And I really don't miss the snow. And I now live among folks who seem to believe that they suffer terrible winter weather, in the south.
Currently 55F at 7:20 PM.
Stay warm. I've got to travel to a funeral in Iowa shortly. So, I'll get a refresher on what actual cold feels like again.
To me... it pretty much feels the same when it gets down to gets below 5 F
It helps keeping the riffraff out... or a lot of it anyways.
I love to ice fish & do some other activities outdoors. I’m glad I have other indoors hobbies... pinball.. old tube radios etc.

Just got back from a hockey game. -25c. It’s a special kind of quiet tonight, you can hear the snow hitting the ground. The snow insulates everything. There is no wind, steam leaving chimneys goes straight up to just float there really. My neighbor still walked by with his huskeys. I would say two cars are going to drive by my house tonight, my neighbor leaving for work in the night and maybe a cop on patrol. Very little crime here. There is pros and cons to everything. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. The spiders are too big....
