So yesterday I picked up a High Speed II The Getaway, yesterday and I don’t know where to start.
This is my second pin and a bit more advanced than my Cyclone. I suppose it’s official, I’ve been bit..
This is my first 90’s game with a DMD.

I think survey is certainly in order to see where I’m at and where I should start.
I have an idea but...
In any case, I’m in search of a mentor (s) to mentor me through my repair/ restore journey on this pin.
The more the merrier.

Thank you in advance!

Any one in?

Some better pics to follow with what I found...

Join the Getaway club, and start by searching through that exhaustive thread. Just about anything that could happen to a Getaway has been addressed somewhere over the years there. If something new, there are lots of helpful owners who've seen it all.

Congrats. Start by posting all your issues in this repair thread. I am sure we can work through most or all of them.

Since you’re fairly new, you might not be aware there is a club thread for Getaway: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/getaway-club-dispatch-run-a-make-on-license-plate-kingpin

There are a lot of active users and it’s got years of repair tips, mods, and restorations so I would start there. I also check out HEP’s gallery pages whenever I’m starting a restore for quality photos of what goes where: http://christopherhutchins.com/gallery/album355?page=1

Good luck!

I will defiantly start reading. Thank you for the links!
I’m always pleasantly amazed with the vast number of knowledgeable people willing to point you in the right direction!

Individual repair threads get more attention from multiple individuals, who may not even own the title. There are just common issues and troubleshooting on WPC games.

I’ll definitely check him out.
First thing is to get the machine to play. Then I’m taking apart the playfield to clean, polish anything metal then order and install some extras.

Thanks for the tip!

Broke? So, no quarters in the cash box?

I’m starting to read the club thread.

Not sure the best place to look or ask.
I don’t seem to be Abel to find the on and off switch.
There’s a spot for it but I don’t see it.
Apparently the “on switch” was plugging it in”
I’m guessing the on off switch was part of the line filter assembly?
#6 from the manual on the attached.
I guess I should probably open it up and see what’s going on in there.
I’m trying to find a schematic for it.
I also saw some electrical tape on the main power cord.
I havE a strong feeling a new cord is also going on the list.

Saw a High Speed 2 for sale recently on facebook. The guy wanted $4500 for it and claimed it was a "fuse" problem. Regardless it didn't turn on and I told him $4500 is way too much for a non-functioning pin. Some other collector was on there talking about "supply and demand" Fact is if sellers actually get $4500 for crap pins then yeah prices go up quickly. Need to stomp that crap out before it gets out of hand.

Correct. The switch arm is supposed to be accessible from the right corner on the underside of the game. Until you get a new switch and cord installed, you probably will want to use a power strip so that you can turn the game on and off safely. It is not good for the game to experience surges when plugging/unplugging a game by the cord to turn it on/off.

FYI, search is your friend. Within each thread you can search by words and/or Pinside just within that thread - sure beats having to read thousands of posts when you are looking for something. Also, key posts can be very helpful at the top of many threads.

Another great resource for common issues is Pinwiki. Here’s the link pertaining to The Getaway platform (WPC-89 Fliptronic II): https://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Williams_WPC

Mr_Tantrum
Thanks again for the links!
I still fumble through Pinside a bit.
Theres So much information...
Someone posted some information and things to test regarding the error code check fuse f114/f115.
I’s some of the best specific information I’ve received so far on what to check regarding that error.. I still want to read through the club posts just to see what I might run into..
First things first. I found the on. Off switch.
I thought it was missing. I got lucky, it was just pushed back into the assembly. All I need I a nut and washer reinstall and I’m good. (Hopefully)
I also pulled the door.
It needs work.
Seeing as how I just finished the door on my Cyclone (which now looks awesome) so it looks very familiar.
It’s missing parts. It’s dirty, need to solder some wires back onto the coin switch.
Need to figure out which ones go where....I think I can figure it out from the coin interface board.
I’m not sure if the test switch is working.
Currently all I get is the error message and the test switch does nothing.
I’m guessing it’s because of the error.

Sadly, No coin box & no coins.
I did get a few wrenches and burnt out incandescent bulbs along with
A fair amount of dirt.

This the current shape of the door.
Not too exiting stuff.

I’m a little disappointed the front button housing doesn't have the “W” on it.
Perhaps it originally didn’t or it’s a replacement. Looks original though.
I’m thinking I might be able to gently bend back that part of the hinge and open up the hole with something so that the hinge rod can pass through it.

The saga continues ...
The CPU and MPU we’re sent out to Clive,
They came back in perfect working order.
Thank you Clive!
I reinstalled all the boards, powered up the pin and I received a few error messages.
Check switch 81 opto 1 through switch 85 opto 5. Also, none of the lamps light up.

For starters, I suppose I should. Heck ALL
My connections to the boards. I may have missed one or plugged it in the wrong place and check the ribbon cables.

Im hoping it’s as simple as that.

Small problem... The pictures I took before removing all the boards are kind of crappy.
I was able to find some back box pictures I can use as well as the schematics to check the plugs.

When I push the start button, a game won’t start. Is that normal if it’s displaying the opto errors?

Anyone have any other idea why I would have all the errors and no lites other than for me to check all the connections?
