So I just played some Haunted House and Rocky and Bullwinkle for the first time in a while.
Haunted House has glitched out in the middle of a game, has happened before. I let the machine go.
After an hour, I smell smoke. Shut the machines off, let in some fresh air.

So,
1) Could it be battery leakage from a MPU board?
2) Something else in Haunted House burning?

Please help. Feedback would be appreciated. Thanks kba78

Can you remove the Backglass and inspect the boards? Pictures would help diagnose the issue possibly.

Another possibility is the pesky grounding issues of Gottlieb’s.

My first thought is the caps on power supply and bottom of cabinet are original and dried out. Time to refresh things.

Pictures will be up later. Did look at battery connector, one battery has corrision. Will replace them. Maybe that will help as well?

#5 3 years ago

Sorry. The pictures and batteries I am talking about are for Haunted House.

Pictures of boards and battery connector to Haunted House. Will replace the batteries tomorrow and see what happens.

Uh..no. Only a locked on transistor, electrolytic capacitor exploding, burnt coil because of a transistor would be the possibilities.

Are you sure it was Haunted House? Did you open the coin door on R&B and have a whiff?

If it really was Haunted House, this R10 on your power supply seems like a potential. Not sure it is just the light, but looks burnt in the middle of the part.

You weren't burning incense to get rid of the weed smell and just forgot because you were, you know, smoking weed?

Nothing like that "Essence of Allen-Bradley".

As for Haunted House, they all do that. You have a fried kickback coil and maybe a bad driver transistor. Many times, the logic will keep the solenoid energized frying it even though the driver transistor is still good.

I'd consider underfusing the controlled solenoids.

MrBally Which board would the bad driver be on?

This transistor next to the J5 connections looks a bit toasted.

If so, that is disappointing, as that new board design is supposed to protect against that type of issue.

The transistor that says IRF530?

I'd inspect those bds. with the power on. That way you can see/smell what's going on.

Would that be for the MPU board?

Driver transistors are on the Driver Board. Game control logic is on the Control (MPU) board.

I am assuming original boards. Not an Aftermarket "all in one" board.

Gotcha. Will look into. Thank you MrBally
