Is this funny or what, does the floating head Smaug remind anyone of another toy?

I guess some people get emotionally invested in a theme or a company. I've spent 10k on 2 Stern pins and mods in the past 2 months. Yet I had no problem bashing Stern for TWD, I'm also a big fan of Borg, I've actually corresponded with him several times and he's a great guy, but the TWD design should have been thought out better and I dare say fought for more, by that I mean ala S. Richie, he banged heads with Gary many times over game features and cost cutting antics. With that said there is no excuse for Smaug being so hollow and basically irrelevant in a game that so badly needs a center piece...there are 50 people here that could have designed a better Smaug than that, heck 20 year old JP's T-rex is better. So calling a spade a spade is not trolling.
At this time guys we have to bury that hope and just deal with what we got, it won't change, even a new toy will not change the lack of interactivity...only one question remains, courtesy of the Clash: "should I stay or should I go?"
Quoted from OldPinster:In regard to 28+ modes though ... seriously, how many diferent goals (modes) can you define (rule-wise) by changing which targets need to be hit and in what order?? 5 or 6 modes seems a little small ... but now you're on the opposite end of the spectrum with 28+. I can guarantee that just simply stating "Hey, this game has 28+ modes in it!!!" will NOT get more consumers to walk up to it and put in more quarters.
Thank you for saying this, it's rather an important point, 28 modes is great but what if 15 of those modes are different drop targets mixtures you have to hit...that could get a bit repetitive.
Quoted from Aurich:I'll make some general comments and then talk about the toy.
Thanks for the info...needed a pin fanatic's take on it.
Quoted from LITZ:This expo event was the tipping point in the other direction
Ditto, I think this expo will be remembered by all of us for some time as a watershed event.
Quoted from kaneda:I don't buy the license excuse at all. Why would they NOT want to make the most amazing game?
Nice, but please close the shades on that window that LOTR is too nice to ruin with UV rays...and no it doesn't need to be sunny for the decal to fade.
The most importan take away is that JJP now knows that there is a disconnect between what the expectation were and what was delivered, and now Jack has posted that he will do something about it. I say we give Jack and company a chance to set things right.
Quoted from DCFAN:It could be a book of all of Bilbo's writings. He wrote poems, songs, and stories.
or just Hobbit porn...
Quoted from chessiv:Odd that wasn't communicated until everyone bitched. They forgot to mention it was a placeholder? Right...
Agreed...I don't think it was.
It will be years before we find out how this epic fail came about....Why Balcer left and who took over the design aspect of the game. Also the price increase is just rubbing salt in the wound. All of this shows poor project management and a certain naïveté about what their customers wants and expectations are. When you sell a game as LE and then turn around and release another batch that is arguably better is just like sticking your thumb in your customers eye....the price of a pinball is now 9000 bucks folks. I don't think any of this would be even up for discussion if people hadn't cancelled in droves. So we've been arguing for a while how much more the market can take, well now we know, the market has spoken....for $9000 your dragon better fly and shoot fire out of every orfice.
Quoted from Euchrid:For your next game JJP, please have McFarland make your toys.
YES!
Quoted from RobT:But maybe Heighway Pinball did?
At least you will have the option to buy a swappable PF for $3750.00-3900.00, and the whole pin with modular cab is $6150.00.
I think they are on the right track.
You may be right...this could definitely be a viable idea for the home market.
Quoted from underlord:Yeah. I'm sorry. Just a sparse Looking pf for 9 grand
Yes it is...I went through the catalog of games Balcer had designed and noticed they're just very different games, as far as layout. The only hits were TSSP and WOZ, I suspect TSSP is why he got the job in the first place, but TSSP is a love it or hate it type of game so will be The Hobbit, it will be a drop target game period. If you like drop targets and precise shooting then you will like it.
Quoted from Goronic:Ok, so they will likely keep the Smaug toy, but is there a chance that he would at least get some teeth?
What? Hope you're wrong.
