Quoted from beelzeboob:Okay...I've gotta chime in here with a few points:
When WOZ was first presented, everybody ragged on it for its incomplete code and "slow" gameplay. It wasn't until only recently, with 3.0 and higher code, that everybody realized what potential the game had. (And the haters will still hate, as with any game...and that's fine!)
I don't feel like this game--playfield included--is complete yet. (Doesn't the apron even look unfinished? It is unfinished!)
I can't defend the book. It just looks to me like they had a great idea for that area (the LCD screen?) and simply ran out of time, so they slapped a book up there and called it a day.
Smaug is fine. A little underwhelming, but fine. He looks much better when you see it all come together during this short gameplay video, posted on another thread:

When you watch that, you realize the potential that this game has--much like WOZ had--and you realize that even with all the small disappointments, it's still gonna be a hell of a lot of fun.
Agree on all of the above!
I would hope that the book in Bag End is going to be a "LCD screen book" that can animate turning pages or something like that.
