I had a garden for several years. Decent size, maybe 50 ft x 50 ft. I grew cucumbers, tomatoes, various melons, radishes, lettuce, blackberries, raspberries. As satisfying as it is to grow and eat your own crops, at some point I realized I was spending 6 months of labor, seed/plant costs, large increases in water bills, dealing with weeds and animals eating half my crops, etc to yield like $50-100 in food. When I hit about 40 years of age, I tore it all down and haven't really regretted it.
