Hopefully everyone will enjoy seeing their orange ghost-runners turn into real runners.

Quoted from PtownPin:

They look great....I'm looking forward to installing the color dmd tomorrow

It's definitely the most "involved" install for a ColorDMD - but not hard. Just takes longer than a typical pin by flipping down the speaker panel - since you have to take most of the head apart to get to the DMD.
There will be some step-by-step instructions on the the ColorDMD site soon.
Take the card off the LED panel and screw it to the board where the DMD wires come through.

*While you have the head apart - it's a good opportunity to swap bulbs for LEDs
Send me a note if you run into anything while putting the ColorDMD in.

#209 5 years ago

The ROM will be up there soon - I'd guess this week.
Yes - I installed my LED ColorDMD about a year ago

#218 5 years ago
Quoted from zpinman370:

Once you get yours installed can you please post some pics and instructions for those of us that want to do the same thing?? Would be greatly appreciated so we don't fry anything fumbling around getting it done.

Step-by-Step instructions with lots of photos will be on the ColorDMD site soon!

The hardest part is gaining access to the current DMD - have to take the top part of the cabinet off and the plastic cover over the DMD.
There's not enough room between the plastic cover (the piece with the baseball cards to the left/right of the DMD) and the backboard to leave the circuit board on the back of the LED display. The circuit board gets mounted on the other side of the backboard with 4 screws. The wires feed through the same hole as the existing DMD.
None of it is hard - just a lot of steps.

Any video yet of the color dmd?

I can't speak for ColorDMD, but I'd think very soon. Glad to see the anticipation to see color for this title

Quoted from Magicchiz:

Yesterday there was no software available. Got my display. I will say that they need to include a longer ribbon cable. You have to mount the control board inside the game. Behind where the display sits. The rippon does not reach to mount the board completely.
I got it as close as I can to the hole the cables come thru.
Magicchiz

Check out the location I mounted mine (in the install.pdf at ColorDMD) - it's tight for sure, but reaches and will work.
Thanks for putting a ColorDMD in your machine

Quoted from PtownPin:

I just installed the colordmd into my Slugfest. The only caveat to the instructions provided is that I DID NOT have to remove the head in order to get access to the dmd. I removed the glass from the bottom by removing the 4 screws holding the bracket. T

Thanks for the update on installation - I haven't put mine back together yet. Once it is, I'll do it your way and update the install.pdf to save people a lot of work. Thanks again for sharing !

Had some spare time this weekend to make an animated gif example of before / after ColorDMD of Slugfest. Shows the display fading from orange ghostrunners to real runners
When I attached it - PinSide converted to a png. Is there a way to post a gif?

SlugFest Easter Egg of sorts.
Team names are colored in white - for the most part...
Not sure if anybody noticed in MrSanRamon's video, the GIANTS team name is colored orange*.
The MLB team names will dynamically change colors to match the team (I need to verify that).
I think it's the first ColorDMD title to change the colors on-the-fly.
Here's a what they look like.

*on MrSanRamon machine, A'S is white because there are spaces in front of the name to center it. Take the spaces out and see if that fixes it.

Quoted from MrSanRamon:

I've been thinking/working on doing a possible re-theme too Slugfest cabinet art...I started with the Oakland A's.
Here is a bit of background and lettering. [quoted image]

Great idea - I'd probably make it more generic in case I ever sell mine - but it's a good idea to dress up a SlugFest that way !

#276 5 years ago

If this guy was watching the Slugfest thread - he'd say "Play Better!"
It might not be a pitching problem. Have you checked the batting mech - you may have worn it out with that many runs per game!

Quoted from PtownPin:

Also see if the guy has the card chute? mine was missing, and its impossible to find. Without it the cards fall right to the ground

I need a card chute too.
Somebody must have a card chute that we could use as a pattern to make one (basically a box, but it'd be nice to make it look like an original).
Anybody ....

#349 5 years ago
Quoted from zpinman370:

Hey Guys, How many of you need card chutes?? I have an original that I can copy and make up a few metal spares as the original. If we can get a rough count will whip some up in next week or two to satisfy demand.

That's great news - sign me up for one also!

I don't make anything from ColorDMD sales, but since there's been some activity on here lately...
Don't forget to check it out

Question, this didn’t have a card catcher, so checking to see if anyone has done a DIY basket for this. Looking for ideas on making one.

ZPINMAN370 Made some a year ago - he might have one left ...

Quoted from FelixTCat:

Apparently my slugfest had a good run for a couple of years

Not sure how much cards cost, but that thing paid for itself about 15 times !!

Do you have the original DMD?

If you need a new display, have your thought about a ColorDMD ?
If you’re looking for an orange display, I have a pile of those.

Get a ColorDMD display - really makes the machine look 20 years ‘younger’

Anyone know if someone has created Pin2DMD color files for Slugfest?

I did the color for ColorDMD, so I’m biased

Quoted from DK:

How in the heck do you put in a colordmd on this game!?!

My original instructions (at ColorDMD) made it more complicated than it has to be. There are several comments if you search for ColorDMD. You can do it from the front. I’m about to swap mine into a nicer cabinet. I will make notes and post over the weekend.

Quoted from DK:

Take the glass in front of the DMD off, then take the big plastic piece off, then take the DMD out, put the ColorDMD in, put the card in the back (screw it into the board), plug it in.

have a couple things I don’t need.
I bought the front decal for my first SF, but since then found a nice one that doesn’t need decals.
Also, bought a set of cab art for a friend and then he sold his.
Here’s a link to the side art https://www.pingraffix.com/product-page/slug-fest-williams
Front only cab decal $85 shipped to lower 48
Inside cab art $80 shipped shipped to lower 48

Quoted from midcoastsurf:

ColorDMD for their Slugfest, do you feel it was worth it?

I’m very biased since I did the coloring for the title! The original Slugfest DMD had almost no detail - the runners were just solid orange.
It was fun to color and challenging to figure out how to color the scoreboard since it shows up in so many variations. I think the ColorDMD adds a lot to the machine and really makes it look more modern. But again, I’m biased. Go back to post #1089 for a link to ColorDMD Trailer on YouTube
