Now I understand what's going on. I just lift up on the dispenser so the screws do not hit that steel flap. Mine has those screws.

Gotcha - I may try hitting that plate the screws go into with a hammer a bit to see if that helps.

Thanks for the help!

Is there an inside metal frame for the card holder? I have the outside metal frame but it looks like there is another piece missing.

How in the heck do you put in a colordmd on this game!?!

Quoted from DK:

My original instructions (at ColorDMD) made it more complicated than it has to be. There are several comments if you search for ColorDMD. You can do it from the front. I’m about to swap mine into a nicer cabinet. I will make notes and post over the weekend.

Yes there is a metal sleeve for the dispenser. Please post photos so we can see what you are missing.

Thanks

Slugfest

Playfield Glass
23” x 35 1/4”
3/16” thick clear tempered

Quoted from DK:

Take the glass in front of the DMD off, then take the big plastic piece off, then take the DMD out, put the ColorDMD in, put the card in the back (screw it into the board), plug it in.

Joined the club today. Got in cheap but it needs a lot of work. Will need new mpu. Optional mods shortly will be new decals, new t mounding and and led lights.

Mine also needed a new MPU. I went with the new one from Weebly for $150 shipped. T-molding I found at my local MicroCenter for $10 for 25 feet. Good luck!

Does anyone else think that 7 degrees is too steep for Slugfest? To make the playfield 7 degrees the back legs are extended fully. Seems like that can't be right. If all four are set the same the game still plays it just takes a little longer for the ball to drain. It is not a pinball machine so I just don't get the theory. The ramp angle and bat is what will determine if the ball will make it into the bleachers or not. Not the angle of the entire machine. Thoughts?

Are you using 2" or 3" leg levelers? Also curious about optimal angle.

All 4 legs have 3" feet.
It is silly keep that steep angle unless someone can tell me why.

Is there anywhere producing new Control Panel Overlays? Planetary Pinball didn't have any sort of ETA when a new one would be available.

You are right, I read that. My point is there is no need for that much pitch.

Can anyone double check on my work here? My first experience with a Wpc 89.

Saw some pictures in previous threads. I have the game starting up fine now. Getting one bong but no sound. Onto the next issue.

I'm having trouble with the switch matrix and any response would be helpful. I'm down to this being my last issue in getting the game fully operational. Onto the issue. The issue stems with the 3rd row of the switch matrix. First, when I got the machine, the card dispenser machine was not hooked up. I since the hooked it up and my changeup pitch button had died. Subsequently all switches on that row went out. Dispense Prize, Target Panel 3L and the Right Bleacher Opto.

I started testing continuity between a few points on the white - orange wire with no luck. Most recently, I detached the card dispenser and the 3rd row of the switch matrix became operational with the exception of the dispense prize switch.

Could I be looking at a faulty card dispenser board (A-14633)? Or just continue testing continuity of the wires to that point?

A bit more advanced, but learned a lot with this game so far!

There is a bundle of wires behind the dispenser and it is real easy to get them caught or pinched when opening and closing that drawer. Any chance you just caught a wire and its shorting out to the dispenser?

Strong chance. The wires are exposed where it slides back and forth. It's on my list to check for continuity after work.

#1227 2 years ago

having 2 issues..2 balls being pitched at once and the far right 2 outfield targets are registering wrong, they score for the wrong switch, far right scores for the 2nd to far right and vice-versa...the pitching issue is erratic, and not every time, the optos read as blocked in test, and the game shows fast, med, slow pitch errors..it plays fine, but it's annoying..I have just ordered a new 3 opto ramp board, hoping to fix the pitching issue with that, but what's up with these 2 switches? wiring, switch contacts, plugged in and no battery damage on mpu..they just score wrong..help?

I'd start there for sure if there is exposed wire, odds are good its shorting to the card dispenser itself.

Tip for replacing card dispenser light with an LED that fits perfectly and works great. Remember to hook up positive and negative correctly. My game, the yellow was positive.
I used small female crimp spade connectors. No need to solder. $2.50
No need to buy it from Marco.

I've continued to look and see no wires shorted on the card dispenser. Tested for ground shorts on all of the wires as well with no luck. Could it be a bad board? I can't seem to tell what the orange / white wire is driving on the card dispensers. There are zero switch issues with the dispenser is disconnected. Is it safe to assume the ground is isolated to this unit? Still trying to understand the switch matrix better.

Took possession of some new toys a few weeks ago..waiting on a couple of parts for slugfest so I can get it working perfectly. I've only played a few 1p games on it thus far which I KNOW is a hollow experience. Hoping it's embraced well once it hits the row!

I picked up a decent condition Slugfest this past week and even though it was listed as "everything working", I quickly found that wasn't exactly the case. The center ramp wasn't going up and found the broken chunk at the bottom of the cabinet. I assume this is a common failure?
PXL_20211112_223035327 (resized).jpgPXL_20211112_223035327 (resized).jpg

I looked for a replacement, but it seems they are no longer available. I found the repair part on thingiverse for printing, but I wanted to try to 3d model the whole part. After 20 or so iterations, I have a finished part. I still have yet to test fit it, but my calipers say it will do the job. JB weld repaired original on the left, newly printed on the right. Next up is attempting to print the flap itself and then testing in the game.

Please submit your desing to thingverse or at least print out a dozen or so that you can sell if they are NLA. Make a post with the original part number so you can be found. It's not about the money.. it's about keeping the games out of the junk yard! Thanks for this great post!

#1240 2 years ago

Thanks for the comments. I printed the flap and tested it in the game. It needs just a minor adjustment to where the lift cam rides on the pivot and it's done. I did a search and it doesn't look like the decal is available separately.

I’m considering become a member of the Slugfest club. Are the dimensions of the uncrated machine from the promotional flyer, correct? Checking to see if the space I’m working with for home use will be ok for the machine. Thanks! When it comes to fun, this might be my holy grail game.

#1242 2 years ago

My recent Slugfest purchase did not include a key to the card dispenser. I finally broke the lock. It looks like it hasn't been used for quite a while haha. I went through the test menu and I didn't see anything related to the dispenser. Any suggestions on the best way to test and troubleshoot this thing?

Great, thanks! Does the button cause the motor to turn only while pressed, or does it go through a full card eject cycle? What should I expect to happen if there are no cards loaded? I assume the light on the front turns on while the motor is turning?

When you press that button it will cycle to load a card. I would vacuum the dust from it load a few cards and see if it loads a card. The red light comes on to tell you the dispenser is low on cards.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll give it a try. I did notice that the drive cable has come unwound from the drive pulley. I can see the small pulley is for the counter spring and the big one is for the sled (for a lack of a better name). But it isn't clear which way they wind back on. Any pointers on this part?

The good news is, even though it doesn't look like the dispenser has ever been used, it looks like all of the original cards were just hanging around inside the cabinet. Fun!

#1247 2 years ago

Take that entire card dispenser out and hose it down in the driveway. Let it thoroughly dry and you should be good to go.

Slugfest was the big hit this Thanksgiving and I've been informed that it can't leave. Good to see your purchases comfirned through others lol.

I need to diagnose my card dispenser too. I've got a whole tub full of junk 80s and 90s cards that I'd love to force other people to take away

I just got a slugfest couple weeks ago, been shopping it out and fixed a ton of issues. But I’m stumped on one, pitch opto not registering. Both opto 3 boards are new and pitch opto set is new too. Any ideas what’s going on? All other switches and optos working.
