I just bought a Slugfest and it's being shipped from West Virginia...should be here next week.

I noticed that there are a lot of posts about Slugfest, but no owners club...so I thought I'd start one.

Now we have a place to congregate all of the info and questions in one place.

Slugfest! Me and my buddy played a nine inning game on my Slugfest during lunch break today, final score was 32 to 30.
Glad to have a club, Slugfest is awesome. Love using the " Boo" button during a two player game.

#4 5 years ago

I have mine on route. It gets played just as much as my TAF, TWD, and Flash Gordon

#5 5 years ago

Boo button? Where/ how do I activate that?

#6 5 years ago

Boo button is the same button used to throw out a runner who’s stealing a base.

#7 5 years ago

Yeah just press and the heckler will " BOOOO" the batter on the DMD, or taunt him with a few other different phrases. It definitely adds to the fun.

#8 5 years ago

I recently picked one up at the allentown show and have it at my buddy's place until I get some more room...couldn't resist snagging one at a great price so now I'm in the club. I'm waiting for the control panel overlay decal to come back in stock at either Marco or Planetary.

If anyone has replaced their control panel overlay, I'd love to know the process you used to remove the old one and install the new. I don't have experience doing decal work so I'd love some advice.

Does anyone have the height dimension of the machine at the back box?

I may need to pick up my game from a local depot, so I may need to know what that dimension is.

Thanks.

Game arrived yesterday evening a bit banged up, cabinet damage on all 3 sides...UPS Freight isn't too good. Someone is coming tomorrow to view the damage and hopefully I'll get a reasonable settlement.

Game was knocked almost off the pallet. Lucky there wasn't more damage.

Put me in coach I’m ready to play. Picked up a nice slugfest a couple months ago. My kids love it and I get a kick out of it too. Great party game.
Was also able to get a box of unopened 1990 donruss cards dirt cheap on eBay to fill the card dispenser.
Nothing cooler than witnessingone of your neighbors geek out over “vintage” baseball cards coming out of a game.

If any other slugfest owners have some suggestions to get my pitches to actually curve and screwball I’m all ears.

Tried tightening the magnet to be closer to the field but still no luck. Only every now and then does the ouch actual bend a bit because of the magnet.

#16 5 years ago

Planetary Pinball is remaking the cabinet art, the decals should be available in a couple weeks.

Hopefully they can also make the button insert sets. .

Well you can buy button sets, I've never seen button insert sets.

If you only need the inserts, it would be pretty easy to make them.

I've owned this game twice (sold #2 yesterday), and I changed the CPO on my first. It was a PITA, but definitely a learning experience. I had to use a TON of Goo Gone, and also bought an attachment for my drill with little metal bristles to get the remaining 25+ year old glue off. Once that was done, it's just a matter of looking up the holes with the new CPO (I took toilet paper rolls, cut them longways, and put them through the holes. Helps to line everything up real nice). It turned out really sharp, but was a lot of work.

If you have any other questions, just ask! I'm no expert, but I've owned two and both were 100% complete.

#20 5 years ago

Also, there are three different games that all use the same card dispenser:

Slugfest
Hotshot Basketball (basketball shooting game, not pinball)
Super High Impact (arcade game, not pinball)

If you need a dispenser, be sure to check in those games as well.

FYI!
I bought a few new buttons for my slugfest. They don’t fit. Total waste of money. Find NOS if you need new buttons.

I think I did this too. The originals were twist-lock style and the new ones were just press-in. I had to take them apart but was able to use all the new guts (colored part, insert, spring etc) and they worked great. Just sort of a pain in the rear.

Id be interested in this process as well. I have my eye on a few local Slug Fests, but they all need a new control panel overlay

Now I need to unpack the replacement buttons I bought and see if I got hosed as well

#26 4 years ago

I bought replacement buttons from Marco on a Slugfest I did some work on recently and they all fit fine and worked/looked great. Looked the same that was in there? The only one I didn' tlike was the player two button, the little men were not centred on the insert.

As far as the removal of the CPO, like dirtbag66 said, quite a pain but with GooGone I got it cleaned up pretty well, actually used a metal paint scrapper along with googone.

I saw that, but nearly $90.00 was a bit too much .

The only issue I had was that some of the switches had the housing key 180 degrees off, so I had to disassemble the switch and rotate the insert so it read correctly.

Mad-Amusements doesn't have a very good name around these parts, they wouldn't take any form of payment from me that protected me as the buyer and after reading everything I did on them I decided to pass on the better deal and buy from a more reputable source.

That's right, I forgot I had to do that too!

I know that people out of the USA (Europe) have had issues...not sure about Canadians.

I personally have ordered several items from him over the years with no issues.

I should explain in more depth that the buttons I got from Marco physically fit but the problem is the connectors on my Slugfest are too small for the connections on the buttons. So I’d have to cut off all my current connectors and crimp new ones on that are larger. It’s doable but a pain in the butt/time suck.

#35 4 years ago
Quoted from Ranhorton:

There is an electromagnet under the playfield that bends the pitch for a curve. Is yours connected and working?

You could measure the voltage to the magnet during a curve or hold a ball on the playfield when it is pitching a curve and see if you feel anything.

edit - there is probably also a magnet test in the test menu. You could start there.

I got my switches from MAD Amusements and the slip connectors fit fine. It may not be a switch issue. It could be that the factory substituted or changed parts during the Mfg run.

In any case it's a pain when you have to do more work than you originally planned.

Ive wanted this table for so long but its always been out of my price range. randomly the other day i checked ebay for pinball machines and i found one for a good price and jumped on it! I'm happy bob made this club! perfect timing it sounds like too! I was wondering if anyone knows if we can have a color option for the DMD? i think it would really pop.

Anyone have ideas or suggestions for upgrading the speakers/sound system?

I wonder how many slugfests got shipped to europe, due to its lack of baseball interest. Or any pitch and bats for that matter?

Someone swapped their bat button with what I believe was a milled piece of wood to look like a bat... I've also seen one with custom side art of the cubs that had the baseball and red stitching look you are talking about. Other mods I've seen are lighting under the two large plastics at the front and I think I saw someone do stadium lighting. Prior to selling mine I was considering doing some pinblades for it to fill out the crowd. I thought it would have looked pretty neat having the sides look like a continuation of the stands. Other than that I think the ultimate thing to do would be ColourDMD... oh... I also swapped out the cards next to the DMD with local players.

Edit: I was wrong about the side art, it is just the blue and white pinstripes of the Cubs home uniform... check this thread for the bat mod https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/slugfest-mod

Has anyone had success in using a PinSound board with their Slugfest?

#46 4 years ago

My bat button and steal button just quit working. Anyone know what connector is that on the driverboard?

#47 4 years ago

Goes to your cpu board. You could change out switches or do a continuity to the cpu connector and make sure thete is no break s.

You can download a manual here:

There are wiring diagrams in the manual.

The control panel overlay on my game is pretty good, but not perfect...one corner is damaged.

I have one of the last overlays from PPS, which is damaged. I have scanned that overlay and fixed the damage; and am going to have a new overlay made. I'll replace the existing overlay when I fix the shipping damage on my machine.
