It does... but doesn't buy you a whole ton of room as the main cabinet is still quite tall.
Heaviest machine I've ever lifted too.

If memory recalls I don't think the head has to come all the way off... to save you from having to disconnect everything i believe you can just slide it back to access the screws to remove the glass... I tore one down not too long ago but I'm drawing some blanks
