Is it just me or does it take forever to update code. Where do you find computer chips that slow . About as slow as floppy disk downloads or at least back to the 286 days
The newer games have bigger memory so take longer. The flash that is used is slow and the processor is not much faster than those used in the days of floppy disks. I usually just set it up and go do something in another room. Its usually done for an hour by the time I get back! Watched pot never boils...

My suggestion is for people that don't understand a technology to avoid making statements about it. Stern uses a flash ram. Its fast to read and slow to write.it performs well at runtime and is a good choice for how they use it. It requires an erasure prior to writing. To get a stable write without failure requires specific timings. The fact that it takes a while is irrelevant. You're not updating that often.

Novell , Sun, others. Lets see a test 83meg on my computer writing to a flash usb drive about 5 seconds. Face it our pinball machines are old tech limited gate processing
