Quoted from drummermike:We would love to get a Wheel of Fortune slot!
Close to unattainable. They are leased not sold to casinos.
To get one it needs to be custom built (mine is) or hot.
Quoted from jorge5240:I buy my dad a slot machine every year for his birthday.
[quoted image][quoted image]
WOF, nice!
My dad has one of my machines, he’s had it for a decade or so. I’m fine with that. I have plenty at my house.
Did my first SMD repair today. An LED on one of the board was bad. I had to scavenge an LED off a scrap board as most of the LEDs became obsolete long ago. Loving my hot air workstation. SMD isn’t as difficult as I thought, but definitely more tedious than through hole work.
Quoted from ShinyBall:I always wanted a 1930s Jennings Witch and Black Cat Halloween Slot Machine. Now they are just crazy prices. I should have got one years ago when they where reasonable. If anyone has one congrats!
[quoted image]
I hunted for one of those for a long time. I came across 2 real ones in 25 years of collecting. Both were at auctions and they sold for big bucks. I also came across a few repro/recasts too.
Quoted from ultimategameroom:Bob was such a character. He was always so enthusiastic and loved slot machines and coin op.
I’ll look to see if I can locate some pics from his home. It was basically a private coin op museum. He loved compiling groups of different denomination versions of the same machine.
If you don’t mind me asking who is Waldo? Filling that empty cabinet with 3 different denomination mechanisms could not have been an easy task. Also if you don’t mind sharing, how did you locate the cabinet?
I have to ask how much does it weigh? It looks like it would be VERY heavy.
You must be proud! It’s so cool that you located and restored such a beautiful and rare machine.
Waldo is one of two experts in restoring Caille (and other) uprights, the other is Johnny Duckworth. Both names add value when associated with a machine. I purchased a 50c big six and 5c centaur to complete the machine. I invested a ton in the machine, but walked away with the score of a lifetime. I could not afford to by it at or near retail.
I went to lunch with a friend who had picked up a Caille twin cabinet near my office. I started asking questions about it, and things didn’t add up and compared to my Twin Centaur. I asked him to let me see it, and recognized that someone had cut the third segment off. I purchased the cabinet on the spot, shipped it to Waldo, and started the long journey to completion.
A single weights 220 pounds, so we estimate the triple at 660 pounds. Purchased MDF sheets and packing blankets to move it over the floor. Pulled off the coin heads and back doors, and it still took about six of us to get it up two stairs without damaging the house or the machine. My wife told my how stupid the entire project was until the moment she saw it in the box van. Once it arrived home she was amazed by it, and we have decorated around it over the past two years. I look at it each day, and I am still amazed that I own it. It’s funny how the twin centaur was the pride of my the triple centaur arrived.
Quoted from PinJim:Anyone else collect slots / gambling machines? I’m up to 8 of them. So much fun.
I’ve found there’s a learning curve when working on them, like anything else. And each model comes with its own challenges. But knowing how to fix pins has definitely translated well into slots.
Show me your slots (keep it clean, ha ha).[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
I worked on the software for multi-poker in 1995 or 1996.

Same..I know about the recasts also

Wow! Small world I suppose. More than once in the past I’ve thought about doing software for slots or pins. Looks like slots are largely based on Linux for the newer ones?

Linux or windows, with a game engine on top.

Thank you for posting the story! It’s very impressive that you own a twin and a triple!
Do you have any other uprights?
What is Waldo’s full name? I’d love to add a machine to my collection one of these days.
I bid on this Camille’s Big 6 back in 2004. Unfortunately It went for big bucks. Beautiful machines!

Have probably had a few hundred slots come through my doors, but these are what I currently have in my collection.
(Bonus Bucks has the wrong award glass as I bought it with the glass missing. I can't even find a picture of what it should look like. My other Uni has the wrong belly glass as i didn't like the look (have the original somewhere)
I have a nice Bally 742-a that I was thinking about selling. Been in my collection for years, playing and paying fine. Jackpot bell doesn’t ring but it’s in there, I just never looked into it. .05 nickel machine. Original illuminated topper. Looking for $650. Pick up in Chicago area, or I can deliver to Expo. I’ll contribute to pinside if it sells here. Thanks, Mark

Trying to make a little space so I'm not really looking for trades. It's a nice running machine

I hear that. I'm doing the same basically, trying to whittle things down and just keep more of the best stuff/favorites. Also trying to work the collection without spending money, so always looking for interesting trade opportunities.
Rebuilding the lower “dumb” power supply on a Williams 40x machine. Williams used the same snap caps on this board that they used on WPC machines. And of course, the rip out the through holes when you replace them.
This board is from my Mermaids Wonders machine. I replaced the main power supply with an ATX supply. I need to connect that supply to the dotmation board too so all of the electronics are driven by the same supply. After that, I declare victory on the machine, and likely will sell it. I’d keep it, but the cabinet is beat to shit. Still though, fun machine.
You can see some of the pervious hacks on the board. I cleaned things up as best I could given the condition. Should be good for another 20 years.

How hard was is to replace the power supply? On my Dotmation game, it resets a lot and I was tolod its something to do with the power supply that Williams used. Any help would be great.
Thanks,

Thanks,
I've done it on all 3 of mine... not too hard at all... I connectorized it so I can replace the ATX supply easily when necessary (had to do that one too with a real cheapo I had laying around)

That’s the guide I used. I’ve done two of them, not too hard. My games reset before, not anymore.

Thanks,
I should add. The power supply shown in my post - honestly I’m not sure what all it does. On my Top Cat, the bonus lights would pulsate and after rebuilding that supply, the are solid. So I’d say it feeds the lights. The main CPU power comes from the bad supplies, which is what the ATX supplies replace. On dotmations, there is a crappy supply in the lower case, and one up by the dotmation display. One ATX supply can replace both of them.
I wish m games were in better physical condition, as they are more fun than my IGT S+ machine. But the S+ is in great shape and has been rock solid.
If anyone is interested, I’m going to let go of my last slot which is a really nice Mills Roman Head 25cent slot on a rare Jack-in-the-Box hideaway stand that is in super original condition.

Have any of you seen the movie "Bad Times at the El Royale"? Jeff Bridges, Dakota Johnson, Chris Hemsworth, Cynthia Erivo and Jon Hamm were among the well-known actors in it.
About a year before the movie was filmed, I was contacted by the studio regarding renting eight of my slot machines. This was before the movie was named but I was told they were trying to build a casino in an upcoming film.
Anyway, I sent them a pic of a "wall" of old Jennings slots that I bought years before as a storage unit buyout. I had around 30 of them, all needing work.
Long story short, the studio purchased 24 of them from me. They had to modify them to make them look like they actually functioned (I removed the hoppers and all electronic controls to make them non-functional). They did a bang-up job of building their "casino" in the movie set, using "EL ROYALE" graphics on them.
My contribution in a piece of that movie (which I recommend you watch, great movie). You'll see these machines used throughout the filming, and appear to function like a casino at the end "Reno" shot. Check it out.
Quoted from Deadpin:Very cool story. Saw the movie and enjoyed it quite a bit!
The finished casino in the movie:

I spent a lot of time over the weekend fixing and cleaning my Bally S9000 machines. One of them would randomly reboot. Three of four power supply fans were dead, so I replaced those. Cleaned a ton of dust off the boards. Replaced all three batteries, cleared the machine and then set it back up. I also pulled the reel strips from both machines, cleaned them and then used new double sided tape to re-adhere them. Super happy with how the machines look now, and so far, no more rebooting.
Look at all the dust on the CPU. It’s super clean now.

I see you have a few button lights out...they are a pain in the ass to replace.
Quoted from ShinyBall:I see you have a few button lights out...they are a pain in the ass to replace.
I have the replacements, just haven’t put all of them in. And the new ones are bright compared to the working originals. The LEDs are SMD, and I think I found a replacement for the LEDs. Just need to carve out the time to pull every button and do them SMD work.
I already replaced a few SMD LEDs on some of the other areas on the machine. Another labor of love….
I also have a a slot room. I have a Elvira secret that is signed by Elvira. I have a Village People jackpot party also have an alien and then I have three old-school slots really cool. I have a bluebird 2 Van Helsing and Star Trek. looking for a good tech in SoCal I need someone to help me to reprogram some of these games, if anybody lives in the So Cal area and knows how to do this. Let me know. I’ll send some pictures of the games tomorrow. Oh I also have a a Hee haw with topper. Lol
