Just wondering; While cleaning my switches on my slingshot I noticed that one switch has a diode while the other has a capacitor. I understand why only the one has a diode but not why there is only a capacitor on the one. Shouldn't there also be a capacitor on the switch with the diode?

Most likely those points are tied together so they put a diode on one and the capacitor on the other. You could use your VOM and confirm that.
