some great ideas happening here with your ramp setup. Love it.
Well I had hoped that I could get Matthew Lilard to do call outs for my game and maybe now it’s one step closer thanks to Spooky Pinball… any of my spooky fam want to help me out with a connect let me know!
Wiring progress. Couple more switches and one more opto left. Then solenoids and lights which should be easy peasy. Then cabinet wiring. Two minor mechanical things to troubleshoot and then it’s just code code code.

Need to get some more connectors so that I’ll be able fully detach the playfield from the cabinet easily. Anyone have advice on how much harness slack I need to leave to safely be able to pull the playfield into service mode?
Also, leaving things a little messy for now until I get more connectors. So a little rats nest pic for old times sake!

First time I wired I left it just long enough and it would pull out a couple of the connectors randomly. I left them more than long enough this last time and then just have a hanger in the back to keep up out of the way.
Depends on where you're mounting the boards. What I did before is go the full length of the playfield and back. So for example a trough would go from the bottom of the playfield, to the top (have something to hold the wires here), circle over to the topside, then I'd pull enough slack till it could reach the front of the game apron. That gives everything over 40 inches in slack. That's plenty of slack and if you feels it's too long, you can trim it up a little more. (Way easier to cut excess than to add additional - your connector has as much slack as the shortest wire)
Yes, longer is almost always better. The other thing to consider is where to put the plugs. It is nice to have them in a location where you don’t have to bend your wrists and elbows at a weird angle to make and break the connection. Some of my connections I have to reach are down between the back box and the play field when the playfield is in the service position. That‘s seriously bad planning.
All playfield switches and coils are wired. Harness isn’t quite as neat as I wanted but good enough! Next I’ll either dive into the rainbow spaghetti that is rgb led lighting or cabinet wiring.

What are everyone’s preferences? Pinwoofer seems to be the most prevalent. It also occurs to me I don’t really know how speakers connect with the p3roc.
Personally I’d say pinwoofer is overkill- think you could get away cheaper and still be happy but I’m also far from an expert on it. I think I just read somewhere that Gerry might sell you a set that the P3 uses if you asked? Those things, with the woofer, get LOUD!
Not positive on the p3roc, but would expect the audio line just goes direct back to your PC - via an amp - from the speakers.
I used the same amp Spooky uses (a lot seem to). It’s decent enough. Then just paired it with some typical car speakers off Amazon
All I have to say about today is I wish I hadn’t pulled out the ground braid when I did my cabinet work. Was a pain.
Oh yeah, I installed my ground braid after everything else was done. Should’ve gone in a lot earlier. Would have saved me a bit of trouble.

Me and my staple gun sure got into some strange yoga poses.
Okay. I am not an audio guy so I'm worried about buying the wrong speakers. Mostly the wrong size speakers. Can someone send me some amazon links to something that will work. The wholes in my speaker panel is 4.5 inches and the hole in the cabinet is 5.5 inches. It's a music pin so I don't want crappy sound (or I'd use the Diner speakers) but I don't need to go crazy either. TIA!

Duh. I'm an idiot. No wonder I couldn't find any documentation.
this is the amp Spooky uses. It's ok

subwoofer I used
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I9TSXKI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title
I bought the speakers off a friend. There's nothing special about them, just used car speakers. A decent pair is around $40-60
Use 14 or 16 gauge stereo wire
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019FC6ZQQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title
You may want one of these. I had my computer in the bottom of the cabinet and this helped with the occasional small hum/buzz noise.
edit I just realized you had a subwoofer hole you wanted to use. I suggest making it bigger and putting in the loud boy
If my speaker panel holes are 4.5 inches should I just buy 5 inch speakers? Seems like it’s either 4” or 5”.
Quoted from SLCpunk2113:I stopped overthinking stuff and just bought some damn speakers. Thanks for the help all!
All you really need to know is the max output of the amp, the max wattage of the speaker, and the impedance (ohm) of the speaker.
That’s enough to know to be dangerous.
Quoted from SLCpunk2113:I stopped overthinking stuff and just bought some damn speakers. Thanks for the help all!
Now that's the punk approach!
Crank it up and if it blows up it was too small.
I believe the 4” part is the coned speaker part. I used 4” in mine and holes were slightly bigger. They got great and look great
Now that almost all the physical work is done the wife and I cleaned out “the shop” which really is supposed to be the pinball room. One day I’ll have a real shop and a real pinball room.
Anyway. About ready to connect everything and get her booted up.

Question I’m not sure of is: Can I run the serial cables through a connector and if so, can the connector be shared with other cables or another serial cable or would that cause some crossed signals?
Getting close! Hoping I didn’t make any silly mistakes.

As far as sharing it with others... you might be okay? I'm still figuring out some of that myself. The drive circuits of solenoids and PWM'd lights might cause some issues if placed too closely together with it, though.

Yeah. I’ve got two serials I’m running through one 9 pin connector. I’ll leave the center empty and hopefully no signals will get crossed.
Wasn’t able to get to the electronic supply store because work got in the way. So I was just farting around doing little things that I could.
Then I remembered that I could wire up the speakers without needing the P3 all wired up! Definitely happy with the sound. Again I’m not a sound nerd so I probably don’t have a great ear but it sounds good to me!
Wish you could post a video on pinside. Guess it’s about time I started a YouTube channel. Gameplay will be soon enough!

Quoted from reconsider59:Can you let us in on the rest of the soundtrack you've got planned?
Yup! I’ve got a playlist built on Spotify with some tracks. The idea will be to have a bunch of different playlists that coincide with whatever character you pick at the start of the game. So like you can select your “style” and then you can be listening to pop punk or hardcore or post punk or whatever. I’m not super interested in making everything fit perfectly into sub genres because I don’t really think music ever works within the confines of strict limits anyway. I guess my point is I really hate people who try to gatekeep music and discussion about whether or not something is punk music is reeeeaaaal boring to me. Anyway, the playlist is just a bunch of songs I like and think will be good to play pinball to and are at least punk adjacent. Definitely down to add more so open to hearing suggestions!

Also, that playlist is definitely a work in progress. I’ve just been adding songs as I think of them. I’m sure they’ll get more robust as it gets time to actually build the different playlists.
A few songs (Too Drunk To Fuck, Sex and Violence and some others) will be tied to modes. I’ve got some fun ideas.
Everything is wired up. Nothing burnt up. Big sigh of relief. I am a few lights short with two full boards… can’t really decide if I want to use another board or switch my GI to non RGB LEDs. I was planning on a acid trip mode that I planned full rgb show for but I don’t know that it’s worth it.

Some good ol’ Dead Kennedys eh.
Good choice!
Full RGB worth the extra bucks
And if you’re using MPF, you can mix lamp drivers. They don’t all have to be PD-LED. You can add FadeCandy lights if you want.

Acid-trip mode YES.

This playlist is sick! Love it.
Quoted from SLCpunk2113:I don’t know that it’s worth it.
It’s worth it. Don’t come this far and then get shy about adding a board if to going to compromise trying things you wanted to do.
Of course y’all are right. I’m going to do full rgb. I even have a spare board and enough lights to cover everything so no waiting on parts.
I do have some inserts that cross the subway path. Spent a few hours yesterday taking apart a led, modeling and printing extension and soldering things back together. Worked great but was a total pain in the ass. I think I’m going to end up just bending the pins and hot gluing the connectors in place.
