Hi everyone.

having an issue with the upper right flipper on my Skateball.

the flipper doesnt really work, but it kinda moves just a little when you hit the right flipper button. sometimes it does not move at all.

cleaned the switch contacts, no difference.

if i hold in the right flipper button and press up the flipper bat, it does not stay up.

if i jump the coil lug to ground ,it fires

swapped out the driver board just to see, same problem persists.

is this an issue with the coil itself then? I just always read how coils rarely go bad the only ones ive ever had to replace were ones that got stuck on and melted.

flipper worked fine before it started to do this.

Thanks!!

Quoted from Atari_Daze:

So to confirm, the bat does move freely i.e. no mechanical binding?
Does this game have an EOS, if so is it properly gapped?

So you know it is not a board issue, this narrows it down to coil or switch.

yes, the bat moves freely. EOS is gaped properly. I think it may be the diodes on the coil. if it was the coil i dont think it would fire when I jump it. im gonna have to see if i have the proper diodes on hand. I think a 1N4004 or 1N4007 should work but need to verify

Quoted from frunch:

Did you also clean/file the cabinet flipper switch? I'm not sure how the flippers and EOS are arranged on that game, but there may also be a pair of contacts on the lower right flippers EOS stack that provide power to the upper right flipper...

yeah cabinet switch has been cleaned as well. i dont file them tho, i heard that leads to faster corrosion (or is that only on EMs? )

Well, a lesson in taking a close look at things.

The switch on the right flipper for the secondary flip eos switch was worn thru the metal . So it was making some contact occasionally but was worn out enough to not work. Here's a pic of it after I got it out. Hopefully this will save some time for someone like me in the future
