Of note - the gate at the end of the shooter lane is the exact same dimensions as the gate by the spinner

#352 4 years ago
Quoted from FLASHBALL:

New to the club!! I'm missing this same exact gate as well.
But I'm not as concerned with the gate missing as I am with the LEDs ghosting and strobing. I ordered the comet warm white frosted retro bullets. They look really nice minus the ghosting/strobing issue. I am a system11 lover and have never had this issue before.
Is there an easy solution? At first I thought of the LED OCD board but that isnt designed for these older Ballys.[quoted image]

Incandescent bulbs?

Awesome! Exactly what I needed!

Thanks Tsskinne

That was the rats nest I created when I washed it and the reason I needed pictures to be able to fix it.

well shit man... dont leave those of us with OCD hanging...

show us the picture after it has been cleaned up and organized again.

Can someone remove their shooter gate and take a couple photos? I'll probably end up making one with piano wire.

I have one in my populated playfield that I will make a 3d model and dimension up if that helps

Perfect. Thanks.

You dont need a whole new lamp board if yours works. You can either solder resistors to each controlled lamp socket, or easier yet, get a set of Seigecraft LED boards to get rid of the strobing.

Yes, those were the best choice at least for my game.

Just found the siegecraft boards 45$ is half the cost of the lamp driver board. Out of stock direct from siegecraft. Guess I'll put in another order with marco.

Reach out to HHaase as he is Seigecraft and is active on the forums. I believe Comet Pinball ryanwanger also sells a version of the boards as well.

here is the sketch - sorry I work in millimetres and this is fairly close without making one

- 1.4mm dia wire
- I drew the centre line of the wire form and then 1.5mm radius at each turn and then added the radius throughout the shape - hence some of the slightly off dimensions

hope it helps

Is the only volume pot on the soundboard? Or am I just missing the cabinet pot?

There's no cabinet/coin door volume pot on Skateball, it only has the trimmer volume pot on the sound board.

Hi, Skateball owners.
I'm interested in finding a Skateball for myself.
I have a newer Stern now, but I would like to try my hand at reviving an interesting/fun SS game as a project.
A collector I know with a taste for SS games suggested Blackout, which led me to Skateball.
Do any of you on this thread have a game for sale or know of a game for sale in the Midwest?
Thanks on advance.

I just picked up a skateball project. Complete with a mint backglass. Playfield is pretty rough. I am on the fence on whether or not to fix or sell.

I see shapeways says available in polished bronze and brushed nickel. Is that actually metal or just metallic look? Sorry I'm new to this. Didnt realize you could 3D print metal. Ha

yes they print metal, via 0.1mm layers of metal dust then the join with applying a special glue then once finished they carefully remove the part and dip into a special liquid metal solution that goes to the areas of the glue and replaces the glue with metal.

Note about this metal part is it can be printed in metal but not ideal as not sure how it will go and typically you can bend the wireform to spring into the holes of the bracket. Since 3d printed metal is not spring metal the bracket would need to be bent so not ideal. It was meant to be printed in plastic so you have a 3d model to bend spring wire to the same shape as a tricky shape to bend to via a drawing.

also if you become a member of Shapeways (no cost or commitment) you can go to this model and download the 3d STL model for free via a "Download Product" tab and then 3D print your own to then bend to.

Picked up a skateball yesterday, planning to do a pf swap. Has anyone bought one of the new CPR playfields? Pictures or thoughts?

#374 3 years ago

I just finished a swap on mine. I think it looks good. The colors are a little off which turns some people off.

Hello Skateball owners.
Im talking to someone about buying their game long distance. The game plays as it should apparently but the g.i.and backglass lighting are working (inserts, bumbers and scores all good)
Any idea what the cause could be? Dont want to commit to another money pit

Possibly a burnt/bad connector or a break in the 5V somewhere? Could be a bad bridge rectifier too. I wouldnt think it would be too difficult to diagnose.

Could a kind Skateball owner take a measurement of the game with its head folded down? I can barely squeeze a system 11 in my car. I dont want to show up to picknup my Skateball and it doesnt fit. I cant find a clear answer on the internet.

The head comes off pretty easily. I would recommend taking the head off. It's a few connectors that need to be removed. You could always bring tape and mark them on both ends for easier reconnection. Take pics of it beforehand as well.

Hi,
joined the Skateball Club today ... am a happy owner of a Skateball (my first Pinball) for 2 days now!
After a cumbersome pick-up, 6h drive and set-up excercise ... everything worked perfect.
But after some 15-20 plays it got stuck. I checked the forum post but die not find any hint on what to do so far.
So reaching out to some expert Skateballers for help...
The issue is that after falling down the ball is stuck (see Picture) in the "pocket"? under the bottom arch and it does not get transported to the shooter gauge. Self diagnostics as well as forwarding the ball manually and restarting did not help since it ends in the same state.

Thx in advance for any hint or quick fix ... wanna get back and play

And another question: can i lower the overall sound easily (could get in trouble with some neighbours)

Congrats.

it is a super fun game to flip on.

First step would be to remove the apron (the 2 screws in front that hold the hangars on also anchor the apron) and check to see what the obstruction is and if it can be massaged out. There isn't too much going on there that should make it tough to diagnose the issue.

As for Volume, there is a pot on the boards that allows you to trim. Easily found in / on your owner's manual.

#394 3 years ago

Good day.
Does anyone have a playfield and back glass scan they can share?
A fellow pinsider onemoresean was kind enough to send me playfield pictures but my playfield is beyond restoring.
All I have is a populated playfield (minus plastics and all flipper coils) so looking to build one basically from scratch.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Kindest regards.

Hi and thanks for your help.
Unfortunately after some hours of careful checking and running the self diagnostic test many times i am still not getting the machine working.
The LED test is fine, feature lamps are working besides 3 which imo should not be the real problem, Displays count correctly, the solenoids seem to pull-in in sequence correctly - also the outhole kicker which i thought was a problem is working. What does not move though are the 4 flippers - should they also be activated in the solenoid test? in any case those do not move no matter if during testing or not.
thanks again for any hint

ps. the volume adaptation was easy

Have you checked the Fuse under the playfield?

I am pretty sure that one blows and no flippers for you.

And no, the flippers do not fire during the solenoid test.

I am not sure i understand what you mean by "that one blows and no flippers for you" (note: i am not a native speaker)
I checked the one Fuse i was able to find under the playfield and it looks ok to me (wire not broken), the contact points were somewhat "oxidited" (do not know the english term for that) but i cleaned them so should not be the pb anymore.
in any case both before and after the fuse check when I plug in the pinball to the current a short circuit couses my house main electricity network safety to shut down,.... seems that things are getting worse and not better.

#399 3 years ago
Quoted from pin_ball_fan:

Get a multimeter! You cant properly diagnose without one. I'd firstly check to see if there continuity in that coil. If yes, check the coil for power-If no replace coil. If no power at coil check for a broken wire connecting to the coil. - No broken wire then its farther down the line and you'll likely need more experience to test the solenoid driver board but my guess is either a blown transistor or bad connector.

My skateball started acting funny tonight, when hitting the flippers it will sometimes tilt and restart the game or reset and move to the next ball. Anyone have any ideas?
