I would be interested in good color match as well

#152 3 years ago

Look at the paint color under the siderails and legs.
Then find the closest spray paint to that.
Not one person has the exact colors for you.
Besides, once it's all painted it's all going to be perfect anyway.

Or, if you like the pinball pimp's colors, maybe he can share.

I brought my Skateball to SFGE with his younger brother Fathom. Went to increase the volume, and I can't find it anywhere! Is it on the coin door or in the cab for you guys?

Thanks! I'll bump up the volume tomorrow morning. I think SB sounds great.

Just about to pick up a skateball but the BG is almost completely flaked to blank glass.

Anyone have a lead on a BG up for sale?

#158 3 years ago

Whole machine just popped up in Marketplace.

Just joined the club. Getting new rubbers and she cleaned up well. Got my gi's out. Any ideas or common problems with sb?

The connectors on the rectifier board are almost always burnt at the GI pins. I always rebuild these if they're original - both male and female sides - regardless of condition.

I've been watching and waiting to join this club for a long time. Now I'm a member.
I posted these pics elsewhere but why not here too.

Man, that's a beautiful NOS playfield. You wouldn't have a spare rollerskating waitress plastic for the left side, would ya? Mine's cracked in half at her hip.

#165 3 years ago

I will have to open the goody package that came with it and see. I was so excited, I set that fat manila envelope aside and just started playing.

That is a very nice looking example o-din

This is one of those machines that wasn't on route here back in the day so I never had played one before. But I really liked the look and layout so I sought one out. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would get one of this quality. The hobby's been good to me in that regard, and this is like the icing on the cake.

Sorry Steve, I don't have an extra of that plastic you need.

#170 3 years ago

That's OK. Thanks for checking. I was going to get a whole new set of plastics when my CPR playfield is done, but the only place I can find right now that has them is MAD amusements, and I wasn't going to support that business. I'll find one later. Not urgent.

#171 3 years ago

I heard CPR was doing this playfield, but I couldn't wait so I settled for a Bally instead. Just kidding! lol. I don't know where you find an NOS playfield in this day and age, but that was part of the reason I wanted this particular machine. And it is smooth as glass and plays ridiculously fast.

I knew as the EM era was coming to an end that Bally was taking charge, and history shows they proved that once the solid state era was in full swing. I wasn't a big fan when the chimes and score reels first went away, but like I said there wasn't a Skateball near me to play. First SS I remember liking was Black Knight.

Hey guys, what is the going rate for a nice original? Only wear on playfield is upper left orbit. Only issue I see is gi is out. I have not checked connectors or fuses yet. Just pulled it out of a warehouse. Plastics look good and the bg is good but someone put some sort of light brown tape on the back of the glass to help protect it I guess.

Around a grand would be my estimate if the playfield is in good shape. Sounds like with the issues you mentioned...may have bigger problem, so maybe 900.

A good players version sold here a couple months ago for 700...missed that one

Interested in purchasing a reproduction CPR playfield for Skateball. If you've changed your mind and no longer want your spot or playfield, please PM me. I'm currently on the standby list, but not very optimistic it will workout.

They're back in stock at the CPR store.

CPR Playfields shipping soon! Still hoping to snag a replacement.

#180 3 years ago

I just received a "now shipping email" from CPR with a link for payment. I was in on the initial 2013 pre-order, but missed the window on the 2016 one. So stoked to find out I'm still on the list!!

#181 3 years ago

Admiring your Skateballs from afar!

Looking to join the club, no project too big--let me know if anyone has any leads. I'm headed to Allentown again this year, so I'm able to be mobile in my search.

Damn! Looks like I missed out! I appreciate what the guys at CPR do for us but I think they need to do some work on the order management/confirmation piece. I completed the pre-order system for both new and old orders for skateball, never received a reply/confirmation on either. Looks like I missed out!! I'll just have to watch for one to come up somehow. And be at the mercy of the supply and demand curve. Luckily my current PF has Mylar sheet and the wear is only on the outer lanes/drain. It'll come up alright with the help of the pro/specialist restorers.

So big Skateball fan, sold mine awhile back, but stayed on the list because I know I will track down another in the future. I also really appreciate CPR and what they do for the hobby, but....is it just me or are the colors way off on the CPR playfield? It looks severely muted in tones compared to what I recall mine looking like, and what other pictures look like in this thread as well as on IPDB. I notice the biggest differences in the blues and greens where originally they were almost a neon color and now they just look....well certainly not neon or bright.

I think you're right. They do look darker / different then the original. Hopefully it's a camera thing and those that get them can chime in. Mine has mylar and just slight wear at the top so I'm not getting one.

#185 3 years ago

Also noticed that the 'A' and 'B' inserts on the inlanes are very different. The lettering is easily seen as white on the unlit insert in the original, but it's not visible on the CPR one (unlit).

#186 3 years ago

your right Tommy that is not looking like an accurate reproduction - colours and shading

#187 3 years ago

I am on the list for Skateball (and have the confirmation mail to prove it) but I have not received any mail with payment notification from cpr. I sent them an e-mail yesterday but they have not responded back.

I also sent an e-mail to Kevin a few months ago asking if it would be smart to send skateball and Eight ball Deluxe at the same time,(to save on shipping) and he never answered back.

CPR have always been fast to respond to my e-mails before.

Should I be worried? My Skateball and EBD have been sitting in storage for a year, just waiting for these playfields, so if my orders somehow got lost, this will be a real bummer of a year

From CPR's website

"PREORDER CUSTOMERS BEING CONTACTED DIRECTLY
March 1 to March 25

WAITING LIST CUSTOMERS (if any leftovers) BEING CONTACTED
March 26th to April 15th

GENERAL PUBLIC SALES (CPR Web Site Store)
Late April 2017 (if any leftovers)"

So no need to panic yet if you haven't been contacted already. I'm on both the old and new lists too and haven't received my email yet either but I'm hopeful.

Guess I should learn to read before getting panic attacks

Yep, I'm on both the old and new lists for this, too. I'm anxiously awaiting my email. Got my new plastics a few weeks ago. I don't like being patient. I want it NOW.

In my opinion the green is the wrong color also. This is the playfield I restored for my game, mine might be a light more vibrant then a stock one. But there's is way to dark.

Yes, your colors are much better than the CPR pictures. I hope the real life CPR colors are brighter than the pictures. Their blue looks too gray like a steel blue, and their green is more yellow-green, almost chartreuse. Yikes!

Anybody hear anything yet? I'm on the list, but the end of the time they said they were contacting preorder-ers is fast approaching, and I have not yet received an email. Should I be worried? Also, anyone have any more info on the artwork colors?

I may take this route and touchup my original. Heck, if it turns out ok; it will be less work. I don't have to take all the stuff off the bottom of the playfield to restore the top.

Guys;

I wish I could say that the colors our pictures were 100% accurate to what you will see on the actual PF but they just are not. Its a function of many things. IMO, the LED lighting we for the pictures seem to wash colors a bit, some colors more than others. I find the actual products are always more vivid and saturated. To make matters worse your monitor and phone screens will never display correct color saturation. There are tools out there to calibrate some professional monitors but I doubt many actually bother, I know I never have.

Please let me remind everyone again that you just cannot compare the colors on your original 80's PF to our colors as they simply will not match. On your PF, 30-40 Years have passed since they looked like they did when new. We go to absurd lengths to match the colors to what was originally printed on your PFs and unless your PF has been stored in a 100% vacuum and protected from ANY UV light for the last 35 yrs or so, it won't match the original PFs colors in any way. We have used an art restorer to time travel our colors back accounting for UV shift and oxidation and were blown away by the colors she chose. We had our doubts until we came across the ACTUAL films used to make the game in question and the Pantone colors listed on the films matched her picks 100%. When in doubt we still use this service. Most of our colors are Pantone matched and difficult colors are always professionally mixed. I'm not going to say mistakes don't happen because they do. Everyone involved is human and mistakes do occasionally creep in, but we do go to extreme lengths to make sure its rare. We are bigger pinheads that most of you guys, I mean our press operator has the scene from the Centaur backglass tattooed across his entire back!! He cares that we get it right, as do all of us.

Mike

Got my CPR skateball playfield yesterday. No doubt it is nice! I do agree that the neon green isn't neon.

Quoted from CPR:

You would think the original playfield colors would be darker in color, but this green is much brighter that the CPR.
O, well. It's a hell of a lot better than the one I have. Thanks for doing these CPR!

New CPR Skateball PF arrived yesterday. I think the green on the PF that folks have been talking about turned out really nice. It's not as washed out as seen in some photos and not as neon as seen in others. It's somewhere in between to my eye. Attached are a few quick pics of my field. I laid a CPR repro SB plastic down on the field in the last photo so you can see the greens on the plastics in comparison to those on the field. I think CPR did another great job
