I just took delivery of my sisyphus table 2 days ago (and wish that I had backed them 18 months ago for their kickstarter to save myself some money

their product is a glass top table that has a recessed area under the glass that houses a ring of adjustable LED lights and a soft, felt surface (much like a billiard table) that is covered with a thin layer of white sand. under the table, a raspberry pi computer controls a rotating, moveable arm with a strong magnet on the end that moves a 1/2" ball bearing through the sand to create a multitude of continuous line patterns (much like the spirograph toy of the 1960s)

the microSD memory card comes pre-loaded with over 30 designs and they have a community that not only has created a website that allows you to generate your own patterns, but you can also take vector drawings and convert them to the appropriate format to be used as well.
the mobile app (android and ios) allows you to control the brightness level of the strip of LED lighting surrounding the "playfield", ball speed as well as creating "playlists" for the drawing patterns.

at the slower speeds, it can take upwards of 2 hours to complete a design (depending on its complexity) but its rather therapeutic to watch it trudge through the mini mountains of sand, as it plows through and creates small valleys

I purchased the 3' coffee table version (they also produce a 22" dia. side table) and for people with lots of money, hand crafted 3' and 4' wooden tables

    begin shameless plug:
if you are even considering purchasing one, you can use my referral link (below) to save $75 off of the purchase of a side or $100 off of the 3' coffee metal tables (which sell for $1299 and $1899 respectively). I receive an equal amount in my account that I can bank for the purchase of another table. it's definitely not a cheap table, but they are very well made and nicely constructed (and great conversational pieces

    That thing is WICKED!

    #3 5 years ago

    This looks really cool

    #4 5 years ago

    Very Interesting!

    Almost hypnotic.

Just make sure not to leave the glass off if you have a house with cats! Doubt the glass comes off anyway.

    #5 5 years ago

    That's pretty cool.

    #6 5 years ago

Never saw it this way! Stunning with the Lighting too!

There are DIY, but I guess the businessman left in me sees this scaled much smaller, as a Christmas Gift!

    Congrats! Good Kharma!

I'm using bryan kelly's pin footies to prevent deep depressions from occuring in the carpeting again until I find something that will hold the square stock of the table legs better (the old table left 8 which are evident in the first photo
I'll have to try the ice cube trick to try and get the carpet fibers to relax again

    #8 5 years ago

I have to say that is a cool piece.

sisyphus industries have launched a new kickstarter today for a mini (15" dia) version of their table

at less than 40mins into it, they've already raised $155K of their $50K goal!

I'm really considering getting one of these. Love the coffee table size but also looking at the mini since you can put it anywhere.
    Cant decide.

I have the side table from the original Kickstarter campaign. I love it. If you get the coffee table you may want a rug to cover the power cable.

    #12 4 years ago

Think the mini would still be cool enough to enjoy?
Obviously bigger is neater but they aren't inexpensive either.

Sure, the mini is great and not too expensive. The integration with the mobile app is slick. Great product all around.

Love mine! I was part of the original Kickstarter. Wish I had sprung for the bigger coffee table which I think was $1200 originally and now start at $2000-- and go up to $10K for the all wood 4-foot version. I have the side table and the thing is a work of art. Software integration is excellent and customer support has been top-notch. Nice use of a silver ball!

for those still looking to purchase a table, here's my referral link. it should save you money on your table (as well as get me a discount on a future purchase

you should post some pics of the new designs you have. this table is amazing!!!

    #17 4 years ago

    Yes! Pics and vids please.

    #18 4 years ago

They are very cool. I backed them on kickstarter. Unfortunately mine is no longer recognizing my phone and I cannot update it.

    #19 4 years ago

way cool but a little pricey

    #20 4 years ago

Very very cool. Way too expensive . Great idea, could be a cool DIY project

    #21 4 years ago

I may grab a mini and a coffee table.

Question...if I get two, do you just add two devices on the app so you can control them individually?

you are able to name the tables so I would assume that you can just run the app and it will see each table (with it's own mac/ip address)

Just got my mini and coffee table. Unfortunately my coffee table shipped without sand, balls, power cord...

Got the mini setup tonight and have been staring at it for hours. Can't wait to get the bigger one going.

    congratulations

with the updates that they've made to the app, it's really easy to view all of the owner created paths and download them to your table. you can then set up "playlists" so that your table draws the designs that you want in the order that you want as well.

sisyphus industries also sells an upgrade kit for the original owners to change out the white LED strips to the fully addressable RGB ones and add the 2nd ball for those tracks that use 2 ball bearings.

the one thing that I've found running my table daily (from 4-9:30pm) is that the small slick pad (mag pad) connected to the arm does eventually wear out and needs to be replaced. fortunately, replacements are available from their webstore and are relatively inexpensive (along with other parts, such as replacement ball bearings, sand and even a new glass table top should you somehow manage to shatter yours)

    https://sisyphus-industries.com/product/replacement-magpad-set/

    #25 4 years ago

Think I need to make a custom playlist with a refresh between each drawing. I like starting from a blank slate each time.

Are those pictures the mini es? Curious how big it is. Mind getting a wider pic for scale?
That coffee table is gonna be badass. I’m getting one of these, just need to decide which one.

    congratulations

I'm actually tempted by this thing; awesome. IS the RGB LED option only that...or is thier also a white settign so I don;t have to clown puke my home all the time?

    #28 4 years ago

you can set the RGB LEDs to displaying all colors (e.g. white)

    I couldn't decide either, so I grabbed a big and a small.
You can't go wrong with bigger.

My sand and stuff shipped out for my coffee table today. Can't wait to get that up and running. Never been so excited to receive a bag of sand.

I can not say enough good things about the Sisyphus table or the company. They are both top notch. I backed their initial Kickstarter for the side table and have been enjoying it for the past several years. Most people that come over fall instantly in love with it. They replace a failed motor immediately, without question, and paid for shipping both ways. Great people and stand behind their products. They are continuing to improve the mobile app as well.

Just started my first two ball track

So in "all" the photos (even the website) no power cords are shown? May not be bad for the small desk type or even a side table but I take it for either a $2k to a $10k table - you need to run a cord (under a rug) or install an outlet directly under the table - is this correct? Love the look and the art of these, but seeing replacement parts already being put out there, high costs and the cord issue, I may just buy another pin

(To explain a bit further, we were sizing up the 36" table - they look that good and I thought why not? But where we want to place the table, it's in the center of our room - and we don't want cables under rugs and there is no outlet, so that put that kibosh to that idea)

How is everyone else running power to their tables?

I'll let you know once my power cord arrives.

For my coffee table, I have it in my basement over carpet. I was just planning on running it under the carpet.

Just got my coffee table up and running. Its awesome.
I am having trouble connecting both tables to the app though. Put in a ticket so hopefully I can get some guidance.
Made a giant Vader while having an old fashioned. This table is going to destroy my liver. Haha.
