Just picked up a Sinbad and I don't yet have a manual and can't seem to find one for download. It has a Ni-Wumpf board in it and i've followed the instructions for performing a switch test and it reports switch 5 closed. Can anybody tell me which switch that is?

Thanks!

Not sure what "switch 5" would be.. maybe Ni-Wumpf names the switches differently. Gottlieb System 1 switches were named by their return/strobe lines. So for instance if it was switch "50" it would be return 5, strobe 0. Should see a double number there. But again, Ni-Wumpf may have named them differently, is there a manual for Ni-Wumpf you can consult?

that makes sense. I have the manual for ni-wumpf, but it's unclear to me how to read the particular schematic (there's no switch matrix diagram like the nice one you linked to). It seems possible that it means return 0, strobe 5 (there is a return 0 on the schematic). Never had a system 1 before so this is new to me. Ugh.

Yeah they don't seem too easy at first, but everything gets simpler Even the original System 1 MPU boards aren't too horrible to work on IMO.. I've rarely had one were the spider chips were completely shot. Maybe 1 or 2 times out of a few dozen boards. The Ni-Wumpf should make it much easier diagnosing things. I'm surprised the switches would be numbered differently. Maybe find a few of those switches from the switch chart I linked and see what number they're displaying when activated. I tried looking at the online manual for Ni-Wumpf but didn't see where it mentioned switch numbering *at all*.

Good plan.
I vaguely recall that the Ni switch numbering was backwards.

the outhole is 15 - that one was easy to test

Does it show up as 51 or is it actually switch 15?

in switch test outhole shows up as 15 (i recorded this observation during my first tests). I didn't make it out yet to test against the matrix like acebathound suggested.

Switch #5 using the ni-wumpf is the rolling ball part of the tilt mechanism. If that's closed, you may not be able to start a game. The tilt bob switch is #4.

Thanks! I went through and tested all the switches in switch test to see what was what, and on my machine switch #5 in the test actually corresponds to the outhole (not the rolling ball tilt). I wrote down 15 in my notes the other night and that was incorrect. Here is a map of the switch numbering based upon my manual testing.

While i was testing all the switches, at a certain point the collection of switches that were not registering before (a separate issue) started to work. Those are highlighted in yellow in the image above.

Now the game works, but the switch test shows #15 stuck on, which i can only assume is the slam tilt or rolling ball tilt (or both?) because I can't get either one of those to register in the switch test.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Maybe you have something mis-wired then or one of the pins on the edge connector is flaky causing strange stuff. Hate these edge connectors. Here some pics of the switch matrix info from the manual until you get one. The switch matrix is the A1J7 connector off the CPU.

Just to prove i'm not stupid or crazy, here's a video of the switch test with #5 as the outhole. Still not sure what switch #15 is on my machine.

Game works just fine, as shown in this 20s clip.

At this point I'm just rolling with it, at least until a real problem presents itself. Thanks for everyone's advice and input.
