Quoted from german-pinball:

As always on system 1 - connectors connectors connectors.
I would at first check all the connectors, especially the ones on the bottom of the cpu-board and between cpu-board and driver board,

+1 to this. It didn't look like grounding mods had been done either???

If you are out of your depth, the Pascal board is the way to go. The amount of time and hassle you will save will be worth every cent and your machine will work.

Quoted from the4horse:

This was the first thing I did. They are all clean and shiny and none of the metal tabs are broken.

If the connectors are original they MUST be changed. It doesn't matter if they look shiny or not, it is a simple fact with Sys 1 machines, they need to be replaced. It doesn't matter either whether your problem is connector related or not, you will save yourself a lot of headaches in the future by replacing all connector pins now.

Sounds like a good plan.

For Aussie repairs, you can't go wrong with Ken Shipley on the NSW Central Coast.

Put the boards in a box and send them to Ken. System 1 boards aren't that hard to work on or at bare minimum have a look at. It will cost you about $15-20 to send them each way and it really isn't that hard. As you have found out, you are wasting your time with the Pinball "the best machine we have seen" Shed.

Have you sent Pascal an email and asked him which coil is coil six and what that message typically means? Could be bad coil or more than likely a bad diode on the coil. Another option is to simply go into the test menu and see which coil isn't firing as you cycle through the coils.

Yes you can cycle through the coils in the tests menu.

Turn the machine on, open the coin door and press the white button on the inside of the coin door twice.

Then press the start button on the outside of the coin door.

Press the white button inside again

Press start button again. You will now be in the coils test menu.

Pressing the white button inside the coin door will cycle you through the coils, if you want to activate the coil just press the start button. The coil number will be displayed in the "ball in play" window and also in the Player 1 window.

Coil 6 is the single and double drop target bank.

You will be able to test your other coils doing this as well. I would suggest you test all of them just in case there are others that might have issues as well. Also make sure that you have replaced all of the connector pins as well if you haven't done it already.

Ken Shipley's email address is pinrepairs@exemail.com.au Just shoot him an email if you do want to get the boards looked at or better still, send him some pics of the board/s first so he can tell you what will need doing and might be able to give you a very rough ball park figure of what it might cost to repair it.

Keep us posted.

Do all of the other plungers in all of the other coils move freely in and out through the coil?
