For the towers, I'm currently using "standard issue" green 555 LEDs from PinballBulbs.com at $0.75 each. IMO they're quite fine and do a decent job of lighting the towers fully. Maybe not the super-brightest, but still nice enough for me.
Just for reference, here are some not-so-great photos of the towers with standard LEDs. No question that brighter bulbs would do a better job. But that said, these photos also don't quite do justice to the look of the standard bulbs. Also, sorry for the ceiling-light glare. I'll gladly accept donations of PDI or Invisiglass -- PM me if you want to send me some!
