Joining the club on Sunday. Can I just put non ghosting LEDs in this or will I need to buy a special board?

The lamps need resistors.
Quoted from gdonovan:The lamps need resistors.
So I would need to add resistors to every lamp?
I bought this when I did mine in LEDs - works perfectly for me

There is a few different ways to do it, add on resistor boards are easiest.
I downloaded the manual from ipdb but I cannot see to find a volume knob. Is there one? I would like to turn it up a bit if possible.

There's a volume control on the sound board. See the blue tripper pot marked "VOLUME ADJ" in the picture here:
Anyone put in blue LED Displays? If so can you share some pics? or should I stick with the original orange? All my displays are shot and they need to be replaced.
Thanks
Rob
Thanks for the pic, I really like the blue. Your game looks very nice!
My game is a major project. Spent the day tracking down a short in the playfiled lights yesterday, operator hack. Fixed the rectifier board and have now have proper voltage and not blowing fuses. Driver board 5V is way low (.8V), I need a LM323K voltage regulator and no one has them (cheap). So I know I need a new MPU (battery damage)....should I just spring for the new Driver and lamp board (probably go LED at some point) as well? Sound board is untested.
Cosmetically it needs just about everything.
How far to I take this? Its going to be a money pit....but fun to work on

Mine started off that way also. Labor of love!

That's because they were originally rubber caps.

It's 6-32 if anyone is wondering
I am all in! I picked up this game about 60 days ago and I almost have it running. It has been sitting in someone's garage unplayed for a long time.
I have new fuses under the playfield but the solenoids still don't activate in test mode. Any ideas?

The pin in the connector for j4-7 on the solenoid board was toast. I put on a new pin and we are back to green light racing!
I am getting close to putting the plastics back on but I would like to have some shiny new screws to make that happen. What screws do you buy when you are putting new plastics on a machine? Size and all...

Out of stock at the time that I am replying but you can get added to the list when they come back in stock.
Hello all,
Wondering if anyone sells a nice apron overlay. My customers has a rusted EK Apron and I want to make it nicer.
Also need the ball return wireform for right side (goes to right flipper) Thanks in advance! JR
Just joined the club also. Paid $850 for mine, with a bad playfield, but 5 new pinscore displays and everything else on the game looks pratically brand new. There is literally nothing at all wrong with the backglass. The cabinet was incredibly dirty, but easy to clean.
I want to make it the hardest I possibly can. So I'm trying to think of some things to do to it to increase it's difficulty to max.
What I've thought of:
Change all DIP switch settings to the hardest combination.
Change displays to 7 digit, just in case.
Get the rom to not give out the letter in the horseshoe. But also, get the double star posts for all 4 of the entrance to the horseshoe. Or even put a little larger diameter posts there to make it a more difficult shot.
Make sure there are pins by the outlanes, and not mini-posts.
Can you guys think of anything else? I'm wondering about 2 inch flippers LOL.
-Pat
I've installed double rubber ring mini posts at the 4 locations around the horseshoe. The little skinny plastic posts by the outlanes (looks a little weird because of the white underneath it. And I just learned about lightning flippers. So those are going in also.
The double rubber ring mini posts make it really difficult to hit the horseshoe. My SBM had the posts missing with epoxy laid down to hold the u-shaped guide rail in. LOL. I haven't played SBM since I did on location, and I don't know if it'd be the same with regular star posts there.
Anyone ever run across this odd duck? I have a backbox which swings open, clearly from solid state game, was told it was from a Silverball Mania and yet it has EM style paint scheme. Serial number is ESBM in 8000 range and clearly is a stencil paint job not masked off, plenty of over spray and has fine silver or gray splatter on the white.
MrBally any thoughts?
2023-05-06 16.12.27 (resized).jpgHere is what I've come up with:
Yes, the playfield is trashed (hardtop installation in the future).
Yes, it's very dirty.
I don't really like the look of the smaller posts on the sides, but it definitely opens up the outlanes for drain possibility.
I also don't really like the look of the double rubber posts around the horseshoe, but my plastic is broken so I don't even have it installed. I seem to hit them A LOT though. I don't think the rubber ring is any wider than a standard jeweled post with a single 5/16in rubber ring on it, but it does seem harder to get in the horseshoe now.
The lightning flippers are the biggest help I think. There are new SDTM drains off of the spinners now, that I didn't notice before, just because of that extra 1/4 in. I think that made the biggest difference.
With all three of these, it has made a substantial difference, with once again I think the lightning flippers making the biggest difference. Maybe a new playfield/hardtop will make the skinnier post on the outlanes look less obvious, as well as the top plastic. There are green, red, yellow, white, and black lightning flippers. I couldn't find blue anywhere, but the black doesn't look too bad. I think it brings out "There is something different about this SBM".
Let me know what you guys think. I'm an adult, so I always welcome constructive criticism.

P.S. I think the problem with the whole game isn't necessarily the spotting of the letter in the horseshoe, it's that the horseshoe lights up the kickback. I personally think if you left the game alone, with the jeweled posts around the horseshoe, and ONLY the top middle lane lighting the kickback, it'd be a lot better.
Quoted from fluxgold:Anyone has a good playfield scan of that lower area thats always worn ?
Have you thought about installing a hardtop?

Hi does anyone have a photo of the back box inside for the assembly for locking in the back glass? The lock is also missing. Thanks
Thanks for the help.My guess is that when you turn the lock the bar pushes down from the top to lock the back glass in place?
That’s right, the whole bar pivots when you turn the lock, and the metal flanges on each end hold the glass at the top, preventing someone from lifting it upwards while the lock is set.
Thanks for the information. Now I know what I needed.I do see a few places on the Internet that sells the bar and lock set.
Your photos were great too!
Hi everyone, I am having trouble with my Silverball sometimes it doesn't put the ball in play also the pop bumpers and sling shots don't work either. Could this be a board problem or a short some where? I am new to working on pins,so board repair isn't something for me right now.The boards were supposed to resolder and the pin has a new MPU board.
Quoted from Bluesman:I am having trouble with my Silverball sometimes it doesn't put the ball in play also the pop bumpers and sling shots don't work either.
Suspect the playfield solenoid fuse holder under the playfield near the flipper assemblies. Note there are two fuses, one is specific for the kick back solenoid between the flippers, the other is for general coils around the playfield (pop bumpers, slingshots and outhole).
The fuse holder with the yellow wires is the one to look at. The original fuse metal holders get loose/break causing connectivity issues with the actual fuse.
FYI, the fuse in question is a 1 amp slow-blow fuse.
@quench, I continue to be blown away by your help on so many of these threads. With images and graphics too. That is SO impressive. Many thanks!
I agree Dakine747 about Quench post very informative. The photo and graphics were very clear to see and I appreciated his help very much as I am new to hobby and doing my own repairs if I can
Hi Quench the fuse holder was the problem. The fuse was lose in the holder. I try to pinch the clip a little but I broke the clip.I will have to see if I can find a new a fuse holder.Does any one know where I can order a new fuse holder? Looks like both fuse holders are together with the brown wire

Good idea to replace the other fuse holder while you're there.
