I do not claim to be an expert on repainting worn playfields...but I do love saving playfields that others would not. The goal for me is to have it look as close to the original as my abilities will allow, look good from players position, and protect the wood. Here are some of mine.....let's see yours!

@phototamer WOW! It looks like you are respraying each color. Are you doing frisket and air brush? I presume you are clearing afterwards. I have not been brave enough to do a full clear, just clear what I fix.

@readyPO I took about 30 hours over 2 weeks to do and redo the Elektra upper.

@dr_nybble For me, I use the createx paints and try to match the colors as best I can. First sitting I try and match all my colors and save them in little snack storage cups with lids. Then I usually have a week to 2 weeks before the paints dry out to paint in. I try and do layers to build up especially when it is bare wood. Last thing I do is the black lines. I am hand painting mine at the moment. I heat set the spots when I am done with a hobby heater. Then I spot seal the places I repainted and can novus/wax over that. Have not gotten brave enough to use the auto clearcoat.

Thanks a plotter to cut the vinyl for a template then a airbrush to paint in the black

#19 4 years ago

I've been working on this planky old 1957 Williams Arrow Head playfield for about a year. Somebody had poured glue goo to level the inserts so those had to be replaced.

Paint and sand, paint and sand, and thousands of brushstrokes later. Perhaps someday it will be done.

Quoted from topkat:

All mine are done by hand with a brush.

#38 4 years ago

Four near total repaints. Airbrush with frisket masks cut by hand and vinyl masks cut on a Silhouette Cameo. Waterslide decals for tiny stuff. 2PAC to seal the deal (except Moulin Rouge which got a traditional lacquer finish).

Moulin Rouge (also reproduced the plastics).

In my case is a combination of both. Usually , delicate and irregular and small shapes are done with a 5/0 and 10/0 brushes , sometimes cutting the bristles a bit short for very small touchups. Frisket and airbrush for the rest .
