Stunning.

This season has been a recovery after the 3 month drought we had starting at this time last year. Core aerating, over seeding, and very selective fertilizer application has me back at a decent baseline. The unseasonal rain THIS year has also helped tremendously, as I don’t irrigate.

I was a little leery if I wanted to spend 600 bucks on a ton of pieces of dyed shopped up tires,
but glad I did. 5 years later it hasn't faded. Still the same..
I'm not exactly sure the difference with landscape rubber mulch. Maybe the size of the pieces..

What do you currently rate your lawn?
Me: backyard 9/10
Front 7/10

#367 2 years ago

After years of battling really thin grass in the backyard due to all the shade, I finally reached the 10/10 stage by going with artificial turf.

Likely you'd have to still *mow* it with one of these to officially be in @cdnpinbacon's club.

My wheels finally arrived. I surely could have been ticketed by the greens patrol for worn/ bald wheels.
Not bad for 34 years give or take...

Joking aside w/the toy riding mower - it does look very nice. Great landscaping. He could even do a putting green there...

I have some spots in the woods that just doesn't get ANY sun cause the trees are so thick. Moss even struggles to grow there. Waiting on a quote to down a few trees.

Careful sick trees could be carriers of the Asian bore beetle that will kill every ash

Quoted from cdnpinbacon:

I think a lot of ash got nailed a fair number of years ago in my neck of the state. They don't seem to talk about the beetles anymore that I can recall. But on my property, I have about almost all maples. To the point where the taller ones are starving the smaller ones for sunlight. Some are barren of leaves almost all the way up to the top.

So when the developer was doing the initial subdivision (+1.5 acre lots, 35 lots), he must have taken a dozer thru the woods out back to let some light in. Great, but on the flip side, he scraped the sides of some of the trees since I can see bark damage. No biggie really, I have far too many trees anyways. But those are some that I want to take down for sure.

Not trying to clear the woods and make a park, just want some light so I can have grass once again rather than mud. Fescue would be my choice back there, got bluegrass in the 'yard' part of the property.

Here's my slice of the planet:
pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

Edit: I should add, I do have a chainsaw, but wanted the pro's to do the bigger trees.

Burn in 2 seconds on a fire.

I think I've played more with my Ryobi 40v multi-tool this summer than I've played my pinballs. Amazing how well the pole saw attachment works from 10' away, and the weed whacker attachment is almost like a video game weapon, pretty sure it could cut through a log.

Remember to fertilize, lime, aerating, thatching, keeping a sharp blade and NOT to bag clippings. The clippings will fertilize your lawn and turn into natural fertilizer. When you do this you give the clippings and chance to decompose, releasing water and nutrients back into your lawns soil………

Something I need to get back to is arating and thatching. I have a thatchting blade. I've rented an aerator before, hated using it as very bulky/ heavy

#390 2 years ago

You can purchase an aerator and attach it to your riding mower as well as the thatcher. That’s how my set up is. OR lawn services will do it for a price of course…… And they aren’t cheep for a one acre lot !

Sort of assumed that from your post, but just wanted to check. I use a pull-behind dethatcher on the riding mower. Not as good as a 'real' one, but seems to do a decent enough job. Neighbor has a big JD riding mower, and he has a really good aerator and does my yard in about 20 min.

sorry to interject, while the team from the NLA review candidates, My wife asks: does the Rubber tipple inhibit plant growth? Good question, just being thorough and fair.
