Ha. You mentioned not as much space, so I wasn't sure. You never know, tiny houses are popular (not if you own pins tho)!

Got some red clover to add to the mix!
In my patch that I stopped mowing I tend a little path through it so friends and family can go on a walk through it and check out the tall grasses and flowers and weeds that grow.

First off I hate mowing so I mow as low as possible and want to get done as fast as possible.
Here's my fleet. A wheelie popping power sliding 29hp zero turn 61" turbo Scag, John Deere x465 my wifes likes to drive since it has power steering, and the mulcher mower I use close to house or anywhere needs to be smaller John Deere L120.
I just got the little big bucket for the x465. The beds around my house have little smooth white rocks that we are removing finally. Broke the wear bar on it already so had to weld that up. Now just waiting on the piranha bar for it. As you can see all the beds ared grown up or in process of being dug up. Thing works pretty good, dug up 3 pine trees in the front yard that I doubted it could really ever do so I'm pretty happy with it.
Now just got to do a few hours of weed wacking, ughhhh!!!

There is a blade of grass , 1/3 the way down , middle , just left , silvery in colour showing my blade is perfectly sharpened.
Quoted from boscokid:This is my current trouble spot. Had a 50ft pine here that fell over winter, so this is my first go at leveling and making it somewhat green. Didnt weed/feed as it was bare dirt in spring. Still has a bit of unlevel to it.
[quoted image]
How did you level?
Used a backhoe to pull out stump and root system then tamped down what dirt was left. Then added a few yards of topsoil and raked it out by hand and seeded. Now I have grass but an uneven surface where the ground has settled at different rates.

Wow, that was a job!
My yard is bumpy in areas, and I've been looking into how to level. Rather big (~1.5 acres), so doing it a shovel at a time is out of the question.
I've watched youtube videos where a leveling gizmo is loaded up, and a top soil/sand mix is released over a large area. Almost like a giant drop spreader for dirt, then they do a quick pass w/a leveling 'rake'. Unfortunately, I don't see anyone that offers to do that in northern Indiana. The video was from Florida and I think they were leveling a yard with zoysia grass.
So I'm at a little bit of a loss of how to accomplish this on the cheap (meaning I do the work).
Quoted from cdnpinbacon:What about those grass leveling drums you fill with water then roll the lawn?
I got one for some areas (when I get a mole)...but really not the best thing to use since it compacts the dirt which isn't great for the grass.
In my case, adding dirt, using a blade box, or both is likely the path I need to take (besides doing 'nothing'). Just need to figure out how to do it on a large lawn myself. Not sure if I want to drag even a small blade box with my lawn tractor. Has to be hard on the tranny.
pasted_image (resized).pngBe eclectic and have fun with branches from fallen trees! ..made this garden lattice this year.
Galvanised screws assorted sizes, and you are good to go. Start with a solid frame, then solid medium branches. Add smaller pieces weaving throughout . Second pic /w sunflower is the first one I made over 10 years ago.

Also there is a UFO in your pic! I won't be swayed by forces beyond. Nice try.
Quoted from KrustyBurger:Here's a pic of my front lawn in WI - not huge, but keeps me busy each weekend for an hour or two.

Serious consideration to top 3 here...just look how healthy this grass is!
Since you asked these were last year.
Before topping the river birch !

That lawn and landscape looks like a full time job. Very nice!

What is that small brown Stone your using instead of mulch. That looks really nice. Does it stay on that slope by the steps in a heavy rain?

Red tipple 3/8” (Red shale) 4-6” minimal weeds if any at all!
Yes it stays on slope

Ditto about rock.
A few years ago I finally got tired of hauling a truck load or two of mulch every spring. Plus, at some point the weeds will undoubtedly start to show up.
Did the concrete edging and put down crushed river rock. Hauled a 1/2 yard of rock every single day after work for well over a month - not kidding!
In the end, so much easier than the mulch, and looks great. When wet, the colors really pop. Very low maintenance. Just weed-whack the edge and spray/pull a couple of stands of grass when they pop up.

Your lawn is stunning man.
Wife mows our ranch weekly. Takes 2 mowers and about 10-12 hours. She’s got a John Deere Zero Turn for the smaller area (1-3 acres) and a 4 WD JD tractor with a tow behind Kunz Engineering mower. Cuts 10 feet wide per pass. She mows 20+ acres per week down to “lawn like” level. Thankfully we have around 15 acres as wooded or horse paddocks (she mows the paddocks too but only occasionally)

Probably payed a visit to my wife..cheers!
Quoted from cdnpinbacon:Brown patchy spots? Over fertilizing?
Just the opposite...went thru a dry spell and that's the south side of the house. I tend to not water the yard...better to let it go a little dormant than watering and then stopping after it gets all spun up again.
But boy, +2" of rain today and it's still coming down good as a few minutes ago, and rain on and off for days more... Even mowed yesterday just to try to get ahead on the growth spurt that's going to happen!
I don't fertilizer in the summer. Put some down near the end of the year to soak in, spring, maybe fall. Nothing in the not summer months. No 'weed and feed', just fertilizer. Slow release.
Quoted from cdnpinbacon:Imagine the glory cutting that masterpiece.
And fertilizing!!!
My ideal yard would be ~20 acres plus some woods. Wife...not so much. My 1.5 acres keeps me pretty busy tho.
Quoted from MrBally:Love the insert that came with my recent water bill.

So, a city springs up in the middle of the desert and grows unchecked for 50 years and there are issues with water supply? Color me shocked.
Quoted from cdnpinbacon:Be eclectic and have fun with branches from fallen trees!
Quoted from boscokid:Very nice. I find your driveway set up fascinating, do you have two garages?
yessir. Two-car up and one car below. If you look way over to the right to the barn with the green roof (my neighbors), that is where the entrnce to my driveway is. About 400 ft from the house. Lower garage leads into my shop and the shop leads to the game room.
