Quoted from mcluvin:The darkest part of the soffets is a grill fire I let go a little too long. That's a 10 year old paint job. Looks brand new after a soft-wash with that mix I posted.

Going to give it a coat of bug killer? I'd have to look at what I use, but it's probably similar to Ortho Home Defense, etc.? I just buy concentrate, not the pre mix stuff.
Quoted from DanMarino:Croquet?
Croquet, whiffle ball, bocce. It was an old tennis court when I bought the house. This image is from last year.

Yeah, I’ve got a lifetime supply of TempridFX. That stuff kills everything. I just gotta be real careful spraying it on a ceiling.
About 8 years ago, I moved and purchased a zero turn mower for the new large yard.
I took great pride in letting the grass “compost” (read as didn’t bag it). The front yard, with few trees has survived well. The back is another story. After many years of grinding leaves and pine straw into a fine powder, I’ve inadvertently killed a lot of my grass.
I purchased a bagger for my mower and had my first pass today. The result was eight large lawn bags of brown powder. So much that you can’t even see the grass in the bag. This was just the first pass. I think it’s going to take a few seasons to get my grass back.
Tough lesson learned.

My yard is too big to bag (I do have the bagger and high lift blades for the JD) so I usually dethatch in the spring when I clean up the leaves in the woods.
I use one of these. When loaded down with a couple of cinder blocks - actually does a decent job. Best when making two pass (perpendicular to each other). Then use the bags to pick up the thatch. Occasionally overseed in the fall.

Eating grass Or snacking on seeds is not a good idea. It does contain nutrients but will cause an upset stomach and man boobs because it is high in estrogen.

Screams hockey rink in the winter!

It does!! And I wish I could. Not cold enough here in Savannah, GA. Usually we don’t even get below freezing in the winter and when we do, it’s a problem!!

LOL ...just prefect with the lights and all!
Anybody else ever wage war on thistle?
Never really had any before and now the rear of my yard (.34 acre) by the compost pile has developed this problem. I pulled all the larger plants and did spot roundup treatment on any new growth. They start out small down in the grass with prickly little leaves and eventually were growing about 2' tall.
They suck as you need heavy gloves to pull and seem to spread easily so I'm wondering if there is a more efficient method
I had a dream last night that a massive spinning black orb appeared over the interstate, full of knowledge and power (some might say “God”). Everyone got out of their cars and asked for something profound or important. I looked at the orb and said “can you take care of the moles and the weeds in my yard?”. Reported exactly as it happened in my dream.
I do finally have the Poanna on the run. I put down Certainty ($) about 10 days ago, and the Poanna is turning yellow and gray. I need to put out the poisoned worms today for the moles.

What is the height of your mowing blade? Cutting too low. Pull them out Is best and keep the grass tall when you cut. Add mulch where applicable around the compost. It’s you vs the Thistle.

Needs GPS.
Ha, thought you meant to send the tractor that way, but yeah, no hose track. I'm going to run mine tomorrow. Hasn't rained in a couple weeks, so I like to water every two or three days.
Quoted from mbwalker:Needs GPS.
Yes! A remote controlled sprinkler with GPS!
That be fkn wicked. Imagine being anywhere in the world able to cut and water your lawn.
Quoted from swampfire:Went out today and found a bunch of these MF’ers
Buffelgrass/Burrgrass/Sandspurs
I hate Sand Spurs! Insanely sharp burs that even stick firmly to the bottom of your sneaker (and spread around). Frequently stuck in the carpet and flattening bike tires. Need to use the extra thick self-sealing bike tubes in my town to prevent constant flats from those.
I pop them out with a weed popper, but they often come back.
Quoted from RyanStl:Here's my tractor pulling duty today.

Great looking lawn Ryan! New growth everywhere..let it grow!
Right now I'm at the point where I'm just repairing where the dogs pee. I mentioned it before, but research I've done is either train them to pee on mulch or just deal with it.

Mabey More, regular walks to a foreign pee spot may help?
Quoted from swampfire:Went out today and found a bunch of these MF’ers, they just popped up overnight! I’m going out with quinclorac right after dinner. I’m also doing another round of Certainty, even though the first treatment got 90% of the Poanna.

That looks pullable. Sometimes that's the best option. Or maybe you can rent this???
Two labs, you don't walk them to pee. You open the sliding door to let them out and they do their business and then beg you to throw balls.
Quoted from mcluvin:That looks pullable. Sometimes that's the best option. Or maybe you can rent this???
It’s crabgrass. I pulled a few, but the roots are pretty hard to get out. I gave the lawn a good dose of quinclorac last night, should kill it all in a week or so. I’ll put down some Scotts Halt this weekend, should have done that a month ago.
On the bright side, the zoysia is recovering really well from the fungus. There are still a few bare spots but it looks way better than it did a month ago.

Will that (a preemergent) prevent the Zoysia seeds from sprouting? I admit, I know very little about Zoysia grass and how a preemergent affects grass.
Quoted from Nevus:That robot looks right at home in a Terminator movie.
It was featured on the news a couple of days ago. I think they said it replaces ~30+ workers pulling weeds.
Quoted from ViperTim:Shit is taking shape.
Just waiting for grass to grow…
When I try to grow grass from seed it takes forever. It's gonna grow quick for you. Add some flowers man! Looking good!!
Cuban Tree Frogs. They are the Cousin Eddie of tree frogs. Where there is one, there will soon be 5, and they shi* all over everything. It was recently discovered that they harbor the Rat Lung Worm Parasite. That's bad for you and your pets considering where these frogs usually hang out.
How to kill them? Florida does want you to kill them. UF says rub Lidocaine on them, or capture them, stick then in a Ziploc bag, and freeze them. I'm not touching them, and they are not going in my freezer with that Rat Lung Worm shit. An unhealthy dousing of lemon juice kills them. Not instantly as I would prefer, but close enough. Don't try vinegar. It does not kill them, as some would suggest.
Quoted from swampfire:The hard work and chemicals are starting to pay off. The Zoysia has recovered a lot, with just a few bare spots - I probably need to fill those in with good soil to encourage the “creepers”. The yellow stuff you see there is dead Poanna.
[quoted image]
Looks a lot better. How many chemicals and fertilizers have you had to buy? Have you ever added it up?

Way too much, but a little goes a long way. I should be good for a few more years on the chemicals that target crabgrass and Poanna.
The fertilizer that seemed to make the Zoysia grow like crazy was Milorganite, which is just treated Milwaukee sewage:

Smells like shi* for a good reason, and won't burn Compared to those fungus pics, it looks a lot better.

It really did come back from the dead in 60 days.

Nice work!!!
Now the trick is to keep it looking that good for the next 60 hot, humid, dry days.
Highly recommend top dressing, with a good compost, every time you aerate and over seed. Lots of work but the results and benefits are well worth it.
