Anyone have a somewhat bumpy yard. Bumpy yard is not good for the mower.... I've been told rolling it in the spring is good. Another place said rolling was bad for the yard as it compacted it. Air rating the best bet. ??

Having dirt sprinkled in to fill the voids?

#104 2 years ago

Your lawn may be bumpy due to believe it or not-earthworms. They say they are actually good for your lawn and help aerate but they make it bumpy. Rolling it while really wet does help, but really not a good way to get rid of them-I have tried.

Do you want a lawn that the neighbors envy? My secret is Bayer season long weed control that you hook up to your hose and spray once a year(blue bottle at home stores). I have tried Scott's weed and feed, etc. and nothing compares to the Bayer product. The other thing I do is start mowing low in early season when the heat has not set in yet. Then I slowly raise the mower level as the season progresses. For mid-summer I keep the grass as long as possible to keep it healthy. I also use regular feedings with mainly Revive and Iron Rich(keep away from concrete because of staining).

Earthworms, that makes sense. I will look for that Bayer product. I do the same with low cut early on and low cut the last couple times in the fall. I find the leaves do not stick as easily to the grass and blow away quick.

Thanks!

We had a 50ft pine tree fall in my yard over the winter so I have been dealing with low spots as well. Chainsawed and used a backhoe to rip the stump & root system out then spread top soil as best we could and seeded.

Now I have huge patch of fresh grass and various low spots that I have been tossing top soil down a trowel at a time whenever I mow. Yes, I know this may take me forever but since the lawn is now *green* I am not too worried about it

5 adults and 2 teenage boys live in that house and not 1 bothers to tend the lawn???
Also Pics of a festering low growing weed that's spreading fast on my front lawn. Not good. Anyone recognise this?

Comfortable socks and proper fitting shoes are a must. Never cut your lawn barefoot or with flipflops. Don't be afraid to break out the old baseball metal cleats to cut and aerate your lawn at the same time!
Just a few tips..

Impossible! Likely your oil chamber is empty, that’s a slogan. Check your oil.

It's as full as the day I put it in 2 years ago, also not very dirty looking either.

Pics of the oil? Also "not that dirty" dirty oil is what it is. How is the oil level?

Interesting , I had not know this about diaganol cutting g.

Because it isn't true

Like I just said it is right at the top of the fill line on the dip stick. The oil is a light golden color currently.

It is this motor - https://www.briggsandstratton.com/na/en_us/campaigns/just-check-and-add/ace.html

#116 2 years ago

ok - all those guys cutting lawns for golf courses, ball parks, etc on the diagonal don't know what they are doing...

#117 2 years ago

It's also a pretentious way to cut.

#118 2 years ago

Take care of your equipment, and it’ll take care of you.

Ooooh look at me! That's what diagonal cuts say to me. Its not recommended in a standard family oriented community. Take your obscure grass cut and move to hills!

I have a typical Arizona lawn.
On a side note, there are lots of used lawnmowers on Craigslist out here from all the out of state people that move here bringing their lawnmowers with them thinking they might need it.

Thx! I mow on the side at work. Mowing their lawn paid for it in one summer. Now every yr i can get a stern pro for doing the same work.

Curious, do weeds flourish or are they limited to by the heat. Weeds always seem to grow regardless the conditions.

We definitely get weeds. We have a monsoon season where it rains a bunch.
Stuff sprouts up and it dies after the rain season is over. It’s not terrible, but you definitely need to stay on top of it, otherwise you have a fire hazard when it gets all dried out.

Came in pretty good for just liming twice a year.

Nobody cares about fires but I keep a hose and a hotdog handy in case a trooper comes by.

#cdnpinbacon. Bag vs non bagging. Mulching.

#129 2 years ago

Non bag. Don't believe in bags if your lawn is well maintained. Grass clippings are good for the lawn. I use a mulch blade certain times of the year.

Another tip
for the people that use companies to tend their lawn. Always be courteous , offer water and stand in view of the Gardner at all times . You will see an immediate improvement. According to my dad.

Nice thread!

1st photo was taken of one of our lawns last night prior to them being scarified today.
2nd photo was taken just now post scarifying.

Will post again in 4-6 weeks with results of all the lawns once they have recovered!

Yout grass will show when Blade needs sharpening. My blade as mentioned, does require a sharpen.

#143 2 years ago

Wait, is that your wife? I can see a thread lock awfully fast and lots of bush and milkweed jokes. I better get a picture of my lawn.

#144 2 years ago

My front yard. No trees and not very big, so I think I can keep this grass nice. Any yellow spots are from the dogs peeing. No pic of the backyard because you'll kick me out when you see all the bare spots. Most of the bare spots is where my new patio is going and I have a water issue that should be taken care of this summer.

Actually I also take care of THEM. I love me my Deere routine home service and snow-to-mow conversions. My dealer's service truck is dripping with EVERYTHING - Miller welder, crane, grinders, high-pressure air and lube lines – and more tools than I can shake a stick at. And we get to play shop right at home in my own driveway, Yay! "That's what country livin' is to me."

Hey Man... Who likes Grass?

Thread needs a catchy title like the last lawn thread Gryszzz created

Always wear safety glasses, not sunglasses.

I read the title of this thread and got nervous about opening it

Should be..only the big dogs play here.
