Tiny house.
Shit driveway.
Awful ground (only rocks. Rock rock rock rock…..)
Newly planted hedge which was a pain to dig due to…. ROCKS!
Lawn is awful because… ROCKS!
But atleast the garage is awesome.

Oh good point, I’ve forgotten about road salt.
They’ve gotten so much snow plowed over them this winter I’m amazed they’re actually still standing as they are still as tiny as they are in the picture.
Feels like they actually survived the winter which seemed impossible mid-winter but I’m feeling fairly positive about that now.

I actually don’t know what they are in English but a quick google search says Aborvitae.
They grow fast, they are thick and winter green which is the biggest point to me - I hate winter and I want atleast something green to lighten up the mood in the middle of winter.

Not necessarily. Wind burn is a killer for arbs. I live in Michigan and it is common to wrap them in burlap so they don't dry out and die in the winter. I didn't do that I I've lost 5 this winter that are 6' and larger.

Who's Jorde? Noticed the sign in front of the Viper.
Also debating a nice Flag jutting from top your Garage door. I say Yes to the faux shutters, also a nice black cast iron weather Vain top of your garage would be nice.

Jord = soil.
It was a sign for the truck that delivered the soil where to dump it.
I have an old antenna on the house, does that count for something? it’s coming down, everything is through fiber anyhow.

Not the best but not the worst either.

Thing is, I just don't care
Would rather have it natural for my dog than put all kinds of weed killers on it

Weed killers aren’t my concern. It just looks like a lot of work and a large water bill. It all depends on where you live. Beautiful yard though. You can golf on it.

Yes I trimmed the arborvitae and hired to trim the river birch.

I’m guessing Kentucky bluegrass

Bluegrass. My neighbor has fescue and about now the color is pretty much the same as my bluegrass. But once in his yard, you can spot the difference in the blades (fescue being larger). The other time you can see some difference is when they first green up in the spring or start to lose some color late in the year. They seem to be on different schedules.

Very nice. I bet they look great when there's leaves.

In the woods, I trim the bottoms about up to ~6 feet.

Looks are deceiving. I did a good job of killing some grass when spot spraying the weeds (weeds probably lived tho) last year. Seeded those spots last year, so they should bounce back this year.

#580 1 year ago

My arborvitae got pretty disease ravaged over the last 3-4 years. I was slowly trimming away dead and dying parts until I just said F it and ripped them all out and replaced with beach grasses. Stumps were left behind and I figured to rent a grinder from Home Depot and be done with all of it.

Disaster - their grinder didn't work. Got up to speed and pretty much just stopped when it hit stump, needed new belts which naturally they had to order. Had to resort to old school methods of chopping, pulling, crosshatching, drilling, etc so I expect it will be a couple years before they are gone.

My spring lawn excitement came by way of finding out leaving the hose attached to a Woodford 17 anti-siphon push/pull sillcock (lol outdoor spigot) over winter is a big no no as it prevents the water from receding in the valve. My reward was a split copper line inside the foundation, fortunately $36 and an hour of my time fixed the issue.

Storing the hose in the late fall is definitely a 'must do' in the north. Then I install an insulated cover (not sure that does any good, really). I even lay the hoses flat and make sure they drained before storing in the shed for the winter.

Yes, a "natural' lawn is much more healthy for the environment as well as pets that use the lawn
We actually had some trees and old growth all around the power box but a large tree died that we had cut down and at the same time cleaned up the area for some new trees and landscaping

Mama bird decided build a nest at the front of the house, on top of the bricks. Had 3 eggs in it. Didn’t want to tear it down, so I did the next best thing… Stuck a camera up there so I could watch the baby birds when they hatch.

Saw an eagle a couple of times yesterday, plucking fish out of the pond (very cool). Rather rare in my neck of the woods but I've know about the nest for a year or two. I'll try to snap some pictures the next time I see him.
