Quoted from clodpole:

We have 3 pinball machines, which are a little intimidating to non-player guests. The little kicker/catcher seems like it has enough random action to allow neophytes to have fun.

My grandson has limited interest in my pinballs. He'd rather play his X-Box but when he was little he'd come down and play the Long Shot while I was working on stuff.

I saw this pictured in a auction add and looked it up. I always wanted a Seeburg rayolite machine. This is the holy grail! Bid is currently $10,000. Estimate is $20-30,000.
Does anyone have a shoot the bear/raccoon/chicken Sam in their collection?

Quoted from homegameroom:

I keep stalking online (well, mostly eBay) for one of these or a small gumball vendor/slot machine/trade stimulator. I often chicken out- I’m afraid of getting something with missing parts.

Best bet is to buy local and test before buying,
bring cash and or body guard depending how much cash.
Or have your local bank cut a check for purchase price with seller present.

I purchased this Whirlwind trade Stim. About 20 years ago. It’s missing the gumball dispenser mechanism and didn’t have a key to open the back door. The asking price reflected that. I think it’s a beautiful machine.
People ask crazy money for trade stimulators on eBay. Your best bet is to find one at auction. Most places will email you a 10 second video of the machine operating if you request it. Victorian casino antiques in Las Vegas used to have a coin op/advertising auction twice a year. Lots of very cool machines. Murphy auctions in Denver Pa bought them a few years back. You might want to get on their email update list for upcoming auctions. You also might want to get on this company’s email list. Good luck!

If you don't mind Facebook (gross) there are a handful of good trade stim groups there and it's more collector-focused than eBay and you can ask questions more easily, and publicly.
Buying from a collector there is usually better than eBay

Everyone remotely curious about mechanical things should dive in to this amazing video on the Shoot The Bear mechanism, which is just pure arcade engineering genius

Seen this. Always amazed to see how these complex mechanical games were made long before CAD systems and advanced machinery. Amazing stuff.

What part are you looking for and for what title?

Ha! I was going to contact you. It's for a CC Riviera, the little piece that the long spring attached to that pivots to ratchet the score reel.

I must have that piece. I'll see about grabbing one in the morning..
Just for reference: I'm pretty sure that part even from a United would
interchange, but I should have one from a C.C.

I also believe I have this. If the other guys strike out, lmk.

Haven't been to this thread in awhile. You guys got me drooling with all the cool trade Sims. Also let me know if you ever want to sell that bowler Brian. Game looks amazing.

#2166 2 years ago

my mannequin bowler is going to be staying, but I know there’s a really nice ten strike in TN on Facebook. Cabinet is different, but still cool to see one floating around on the market.

Off the top, I have a couple different ones that aren't exact, but
I'm sure will work. They don't have the hook for the spring. One has
a groove for the spring's loop to sit in, and the other a hole for the
spring. If you want exact and no luck elsewhere, I'll look deeper..

Thanks for checking. My score reel has one with the hole in it, and while after a little adjusting I was able to get the reel to work properly, I'd like to have the original style.

I was able to find one elsewhere.

Thanks for checking though. I appreciate the effort.

It’s been 14 days since the last post. A fun picture I took over the holidays with the cranes side by side. Let’s keep it going!

I love it! Is that the new reproduction Ice Cold Beer? Lovely to see those classics all lined up.
It's very odd to see a lineup of these classic machines, but no pinball machines or video arcades in the collection. But I absolutely love it.

Fire Escape is fun. I'm going to be doing a post up soon on that genre of game. The mechanism dates back to the 1930s. (OK technically the coin flick style of skill roll also dates back 100 years, and the gameplay mechanism of ice cold beer might predate arcade games. Ringer though is a uniquely EM invention)

What is that Basket Ball trade stimulator? Don't think I've seen that one.

Can I make a recommendation for your lineup?
Brunswick Block a Shot would fit nicely

@cait001
Thanks yeah this is the 2003 remake with the extra 2 holes. I agree taito is prettier on the eyes but this version is more challenging and has some nice sounds and options like continue from last hole on game over. I'm not a fan of pinball and haven't found a video arcade worth the space yet I emulate the non unique control games. I have an mci airball in shipping and a genco 2p bb in restoration.

The basketball is a
Peo Mfg. 1929 vest pocket Countertop Basketball
I also have a 1934 pikes peak TS I think you have one also.

Funny enough a nice Brunswick was almost my 3rd game but the deal died. Does look fun though!

Not a fan of pinball! Oof.
Too bad, I'd love to see you try your hand at restoring a Horsefeathers (1954) your restoration work is top notch.
What you really need is a pellet shooter, I'm restoring a white lightning right now and it's a lot of fun to work on.
I always play pikes peak when I'm at muse machanique, super fun.

Thanks for the clean photo of Countertop Basketball, I'll save it for my archives.
Yes I have Pike's Peak, it's a really good game! I wouldn't put mine on a pedestal, I have too many that I have to store them compactly on shelves.
Block-A-Shot is is quirky two player fun.
we both love the mechanical skill games.

I missed this part!! Amazing news on the Airball! Please share pics here as you work on it?
the Genco BB is fine and dandy too, but there's more documentation of those floating around. The elusive few air-compressor games are always a delight to see working.

Thanks for the great compliment i appreciated it. I enjoy the restorations it is relaxing and a good kind of challenging.

As for pinball I probably never had a great introduction.

I had to look up Horsefeathers wow thats a different beast, looks really fun!

A couple of electro-mechanical gadgets in my game room. Always looking for oddball things to display.

"Quack" Electro-convulsive Shock Therapy machine from the 1920s. Lighting a fluorescent tube and a laser tube:

Las Vegas style sequencers for hotel marquis signs from the 1950s and 1960s:

ramegoom Thank you for posting the video on the sign chaser mechanisms! I went to the Vegas Neon Sign Museum a number of years ago and was disappointed to not see the workings of what made the signs work. They may have added something since….

By the 1970s, they finally went to electronic controls and did away with the mechanical contacts. You'll never see anything like these again. Those neon signs that sequence back in the day were controlled by these mechanical monsters. The motion smoking cowboy comes to mind.

@pinsiders and the Games We'll be moving later this year and we've decided to sell the our World Cup Soccer game. It's been a blast but the kids are grown and moved out of state. Otherwise, we'd keep it for the grandkids to challenge Grandpa! If anyone's interested contact me at my "junkmail" email which is [email protected].

I can send you all the information about the game if you're interested.

Best,
Mark

There is a sign museum in Cincinnati where you can see one in action. I highly recommend taking the guided tour instead of self guided. They give out a lot more info on the guided tour.

A 1950 Gottlieb Bowlette.
Not a rebound shuffle alley. The puck was returned to the front via a puck return lane inside the cabinet where the puck would trip a series of scoring/frame switches.
Also the design was for fitting into a standard pinball size footprint rather than a large machine.

OK - I've got a couple of contacts, so consider this "sold". Thanks!

Free... I'll mail this book to you if you will pay media rate postage (approx. 4-5#). https://www.amazon.com/Vintage-Stimulators-Counter-Schiffer-Collectors/dp/0764301195

It emphasizes pre-WWII gambling devices greatly, with only 21 pages of post-war skill-based games. Still, it has lots of interesting photos and 1996 estimates of value.

Just PM me with your mailing address and I'll box it up and get it to you. First message in my in-basket gets priority.

Scan em and share em, if they're out of print the authors aren't making any more money on them.

if anyone has coinop books they don't want get in touch with me and send the titles. I can arrange to have them properly scanned if they don't already exist in a digital format. (i.e. bindings chopped and properly scanned and assembled into PDF)
I'm looped in with friends that take preservation and archiving of arcade stuff seriously.

I did Venus's conversion months ago, but finally got in the small "Shoot Again" backglass.
One of Kick-a-Poo's (a newer (1965) Target Shuffle) features is if a 70 (center pocket) is
made, that player gets to shoot again. For me its a big plus for game play, so I did a little
rewiring, added a trip/latch relay, and made a small Shoot Again back-box and now Venus
also has that same feature..
It's hard to see, but there's small stars circling around "Shoot Again". Once the 70 is made
and as the score motor tellys up the points, the stars and Shoot Again alternatingly flashes,
then once the score motor completes its revolution, Shoot Again remains lit at a stand still..

Under the heading "old mechanical toys", in my game room I have a wall dedicated to 30s and 40s tab gum machines for which I had to actually design and produce the gum packages to fill them. A few stick gum machines, candy venders and gumball machines are in the mix, but mostly 1c tab gum. All of these are detailed as new and restored to perfection, using powder coat on everything.

It's a fixation I have on mechanical devices.

Man, that's a nice looking assortment of machines.

I picked up this nice original Zeno gum machine a few years ago. No guts, just the shell. When you think about where many of these were hanging, it’s amazing any survived.

Would love to find a Pulver!
