1933 gumball dispenser NOT A GAMBLING MACHINE READ THE SIGNAGE

Quick question for you guys,

I can say that I owned all the Midway and Bally compressor gun games and still have a couple,
but the Deluxe is one I'm sorry that I let go. I presently know of a non-working one and he's
asking $2,500.00
I know working ones have went for quite a bit more..
If I came upon one in decent shape, I'd see about working out a trade for
a working ball bowler..

Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping it's complete, but I've read that the clown is usually gone or disintegrating by now and the spinning plates are prone to cracks and breaks.

Quick question for you guys, I'm trying to buy my first EM. I'm going to go look at a Midway Deluxe Shooting Gallery. Anything specific I should look for? What kind of price range am I looking at for an unrestored machine?

It is a really nice shooting game. I'm sure someone knowledgeable will chime in. Lacking that, my take is always focus on the parts that are unique to the game and can't be easily reproduced/fabricated. With that in mind, I'd zero in on the gun itself and the air system that shoots the balls. Stuff not moving, points not accumulating, messed up cabinet, playfield art, etc. should all be fixable. This, of course, assumes you are fine with doing stuff.

As for price, I'm guessing; however, this one is pretty desirable so I'd imagine $2-4k for a project, based on the condition and what all is missing. Good luck, post pics if you get it.

Just completed resto of a Shipman 1940s 'Spin It' trade stimulator-a really beaut little machine. I was very happy to source a hammer finish spray can which closely reflects original patina. New labels acquired from Crow River Trading.

Any chance that anyone in here may have a schematic for a 1954 United Deluxe Mercury shuffle alley.
I emailed the gang over at pinball resource but they are off until the 9th. Pretty much searched high and low and cannot seem to find any documentation other than the original flyer for this machine. If anyone has anything that could help please send me a pm. Thks

Anyone have a schematic for a genco Lucy 7?

Quoted from RonSS:

Just picked the machine up a few weeks ago and its currently not functioning. Looking for a schematic so I can start delving into it and bring it back to life. Currently it powers on and if I drop a dime in it starts the process and is in game mode however, none of the rollover switches register. Hence the reason i'm looking for the schematic for it.

If none of the rollovers register, I'd double check the jones plugs between the alley and head. Make sure its a good connection and maybe clean the plugs a bit as well. Will they register if you push them down manually? try pushing a few of them from the underside of the alley to see if the gap is to large in the switches between the contacts.

It sounds like the Game Over Relay is remaining in the energized position. It also sounds like you're saying that the Start Relay is
resetting, and if so, the Bank Relay must be resetting. You might want to check the Slam Switches. Not sure how many there are on
your machine, but I'm pretty sure that there's one inside the head on one of the sides. If one isn't making true contact, it
won't allow the Lock Relay to energize, which would keep the Game Over relay from energizing..
After putting a dime in, I'm guessing you'll find that the Lock Relay isn't energized..

None register at all from above, I have pushed each one individually when in game mode with no response. Have not tried pushing any from underneath so will try that as well as check the connectors. All my experience has to do with SS pinball machines I have zero experience dealing with EM machines. Trying to apply all my basic techniques that I have learned from pinball machines to diagnose this bowler. Thankfully @Mopar stepped up and set me up with some replacement pins so I have that problem solved. Now its just the functionality that i'm trying to get dialed in now.

Thanks @Mopar I think you read my mind. I noticed that slam switch yesterday on the top right inside edge of the head and adjusted it yesterday with no change in symtoms. Was going to look the machine over to see if there was possibly another one hiding somewhere.

Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

Earlier in the day, I was in a little rush and actually misread your statement. I thought I read your machine
would not go in game mode..
So, after re-reading, if the Game Over Relay is resetting (which I now believe it is), and the Pin Relays
aren't energizing through the rollovers, I believe on your machine there's a set of switches in both the
Game Over Relay, and in the 1st Shot Relay that should be closed when those two relays are in the
reset position. Not any of the rollovers will activate any of the Pin Relays (in the Relay Bank) if either
of those switches aren't making true contact..

Very cool. I’ve seen this one on eBay that is similar. I really like yours. I’ve wondered how the secret payouts would work.

Ok @Mopar so you were right. When you power the game on the arm comes down resets all the switches. When you drop a dime in the slot only the game over coil trips and opens. If you try to close it manually the coil just starts buzzing trying to close. This is what it looks like.

Also not sure this wiring is right it looks a bit sketchy to me. Also check out the right lug of the 2nd shot coil and both lugs of the game over coil they look pretty dark. Do these look like anything I should be concerned with?

That particular one has napkin holders each side which seems quite rare-not seen one before. But interestingly the inner section which holds the nuts is quite cruddy and non stainless steel as appears the dispensing mechanism. To me it is the glean & cleanliness of the stainless for a food product which is so appealing. Not sure about secret payouts. These were 1930/40s machines so I guess 5c in that era maybe about $1 now-that is an expensive palm of peanuts! So I assume as a trade stimulator it is on the counter top and their are prizes for a horse win. I have noted that certain horses win more rarely than others so perhaps the prize is based on that quirk of nature! But certainly they are a very nice little machine and it is nice to have a nut dispenser on hand in the gameroom.

#1521 4 years ago
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

Yes, that jumper does look sketchy, but I wouldn't be concerned with it at this point.
We at least know the Game Over Relay energizes..
After start up, I'm thinking the Lock Relay isn't remaining energized. If not, that would point to a Slam
Switch or burned out Lock Relay coil..
So that this thread isn't being takin' up about repair work, maybe it would be better to start a new thread on your
machine. I'd email direct, but the information could be profitable for future trouble shooting..

#1522 4 years ago

Thanks to those who helped and sorry I didn't intend to hijack this thread. I have created my own thread and it can be found at the link below.
Hopefully I can return to this thread to join you all in the future with a fully functioning restored shuffle bowler. Until that time please follow my thread and continue offering your knowledge and advice so I can resurrect this very cool old machine. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/need-help-with-a-united-deluxe-mercury-shuffle-alley#post-5077976

Secret payouts meaning ‘the winnings’ which was usually insider information. Most trade stimulators have a matching or point system, along with coin played visibility/clearing (so the owner could be doing other things), but this one evidently needed you to tell the owner your guess ahead of time while he/she watched.
I know you know all this, I just had to think it through a bit.

Here’s a 1905-07 Loheide Wizard clock. It kept time, but a customer could also put a nickel in the top to try their luck. A nickel always received at least one ‘good for 5 cent’ token which would come out the side, accompanied by one gong. Occasionally you would get two, and once in awhile three (gongs and tokens). Obviously the merchant would need to limit the play, otherwise they would lose money I think. The credit would then be good inside that establishment only. Special tokens were made up for each individual business identifying them. Mine is working on cents for the payout now (a bad deal I know) until I source out a bunch of the tokens.
This clock keeps pretty good time, pays out correctly etc. It has a non original pay cup and is missing the coin tray, and marquee, which was commonly removed I understand. Shown is a repo marquee card.

About one month ago grabbed up a United Emerald shuffle bowler. It showed some signs of life but both backglasses are broken. Missing some pin deck parts and lots of gunk/rust. Packed it in the garage and planned for long term project. I came across another Emerald this week, in better condition and mostly working! I am reservedly optimistic I can bumble my way through to getting one up and running to add to my game room.

So this arrived today. A 1958 Bally Super Bowler. It’s complete but not working. It’s my summer project machine! I love bowlers and the challenge of getting these working again as well as the satisfying sound of multiple relays and solenoids clacking away! The main thing it needs is a backglass. Let me know if you know anyone who has one!

The turret is in surprisingly good shape. Everything works except the turret release solenoid isn't firing (its a wiring issue that I haven't tracked down yet since it works when I manually apply power to it). I am very thankful!!!

The manufacturing info card in the backbox says it's an "All Star", but all of the hardware (for the match and the Bally light) is from a Super. I'm wondering if the Supers were just labeled as All Stars?

Quoted from homegameroom:

Not sure about the labels (certainly wouldn't surprise me), but I do believe the
Super is the more rarer of the three..
Good pick up. I have all kinds of bowlers, and never really was interested in one of
these until I had played one. I now have my eye open. Great machine for a game room..

Well looky there!!

#1546 4 years ago

Thank you - I did see that, but I would rather not part with $300 for a (slightly, really) incorrect backglass if i don't have to.

I did see the pinrepair info on the bowlers. i wish there was a good archive of the # of machines made and/or the date. I know they started making them in January 1958; how many months did they make them? Ho many?

Rearranging in the house and moving things for the grandkids. Moved the '54 Genco basketball (restored by Bill Heatherly) and '39 ESCO Blue Streak crane (restored by Mike Hasanov) into my home office. Found a NOS flyer on Ebay (Chameleon Collectibles) for the Genco.
Moved the '54 Peppy the Clown into the dining room (which has turned into a playroom several years ago), along with the Lil Trigger horse ride and Pelham Puppets Marionette Theater.

So the pin setter seems to be based around a Brunswick A2 unit. Looks like instead of gear boxes and one motor it uses multiple motors instead. At $30K its about half as expensive as a full sized lane.

Also It has no Flash O Matic game mode. I have been thinking lately of developing a scoring system retrofit for real lanes to some how include all the game modes that bowlers have had over the years.
