Kicking off a thread for showing off you're HUO pinball machines.

Let's keep it real- no drilled fronts for lock bars, no coin door wear, etc.

Pics with a story would be a plus!

I'll start off with a HUO jungle Lord... Not kidding...

    Backstory as I know it:

I got the game from davideokills of superelectric. He purchased the game from the original owner. The game was purchased at auction on January 29th of 1982 for a sum of $550.00!

All original documents are present along with invoice copies!

This thing looks like it just came out of a Time capsule! I have put on a play field protector to keep the art nice. It's only temporary until I have the time to get it cleared properly!

umm...do you want to change the title to like Vintage HUO or early SS HUO? Because pretty much all modern pins are now HUO with the relative small exception (20-30%?) of routed pins nowadays.

Very cool pin, by the way. Rare to find a true HUO Jungle Lord.

    #3 10 months ago

Wow!!!! That's awesome to look at. I believe you, really I do.

I've got a Pin-Bot that never saw the outside of a house outside of transport. The original paperwork much like the manual are lost to time, but I got it off the second owner a few years back, and he got it off his neighbor that lived a few doors down the street from him. It basically has been a retiree special. When the first dude got too old and retired he sold it to the second owner. That guy then put it on craigslist where I caught it, and he didn't want to move it down to GA from here so he sold it and I got it. They bought it as an expensive toy in both cases, never really maintained it other than external cleaning unless something broke, then they called in someone (before I got it, the flippers were repaired as one was weak the other failed.) Due to bungled moving it the back of the topper on mine is cracked up some, and you have a little bit of mylar bubbling, along with just minor wood or plastic wear. Nothing is stuck or broken, not even the common vortex crack. It even came with the original mini manilla pouch with the added fuses, screw caps, and other random bits plus the blue Pinbot keyfob. I had to do quite a bit of cleaning and re-adjusting of it for awhile to get the vortex happy and the gate in the middle to play nice, but it's basically there now.

I don't want to clutter up a bunch of images, so if you wish, take a peek.

I have a true HUO Paragon. I’m the third owner. I’ll take pics when I get home

    #10 10 months ago

Beautiful Pinbot tanooki it's a bummer the documents were lost.

There's something just too cool about huo games being brought to light!

amazing how fast the insert edges wear, even on a low play game like that

We are lucky now that options exist to remedy those problems. play field protectors and hard two part auto clear are a must have for games like these.

A part of me wants to do the touch-up work around the inserts before having the game cleared but the other part of me says to just clear it and lock in the historical value of the game.

is it really historical value once it's cleared? seems like it won't be quite the same

Hrm, I have a huo pistol poker, 3rd owner. It isn't perfect though and while not in bad shape is why I love to say huo is a meaningless term. Maybe I should post it here.

At one point I was considering changing out the lights on mine for LED, but I never was clear, do you need to do anything extra or just swap the bulbs (on Pinbot?) And I do kind of agree hmu isn't always excellent, people may just bought it and neglected it from use/storage and it just degraded. I'm no repair wizard, but I can keep things from getting worse unlike the previous owners on mine. I know when it call it and ask for a locals help if I had to too.

    #17 10 months ago

Ive had a tz, jd, jp, ww and currently have a cv with goodie bag still stapled inside. Not sure if any of those is vintage but they were super nice.

Swap the bulbs to LEDs. Non-ghosting 4smd from comet under inserts. 2smd frosted for the GI.

I've got LEDs coming this week for jungle Lord. I'll give you a before and after comparison.

I too have a HUO Paragon, second owner. Unfortunately the first family, who inherited it from an uncle, weren't pinheads and left it in front of their patio door where sunlight started to fade part of one side. They also never appeared to have removed the glass, and thus the rubber rings were either never changed, or hadn't been in years. There was a wonderful protective-layer of rubber-dust coating the playfield which came right up with Novus 2.

As for the debate about what to do with the original playfield, I have that solved. The pf in it now is original and has cupped inserts and a few also have a bit of edge wear. But I also found an NOS playfield that someone on Craigslist discovered lining the floor in the attic of the brick bungalow they purchased on the West side of Chicago. Well, there were two actually, and so years ago I bought both and got Kruzman to clean one up and clear it. He did an amazing job. So, if I ever want to switch to a mint clearcoated pf I have that covered.

Here are a couple of before and after pics I had handy. The inside of the cabinet is wonderful too but I don't have pics. Even the 40-year old beer seal is spotless and still supple.

    before:
    DSCN4686 (resized).JPGbefore-IMAG0373 (resized).jpg
and after cleaning with Novus 2 (but before a full top-side teardown, re-rubber, plastic protectors, etc.
    after-IMAG0374 (resized).jpgafter-IMAG0391 (resized).jpg

and here it is today. PDI glass and all.

I'm not familiar with types of LED and all that, it's something I had started to consider due to the low heat, brighter consistent light, colors that pop a bit more, and obviously the lower power draw too. So 4smd? 2smd? I'll have to look that up, but curious to see what you end up with. I'm honestly considering a trade deal right now on the pinbot table as I'd prefer something with longer play time and less brutal with instant ball thieving.

This game we have acquired in our store I would like to assume is HUO based off its condition. I have seen many Data East 35th Anniversary Playboys but never one as nice as this one.

Unfortunately however from sitting neglected for so many years it needed a new CPU board as acid got the best of it and 3 of the 4 displays had outgassed do we replaced with LED displays.
You could eat off inside of this cabinet. Its amazing.

I know it’s priced high. We’re a retail gameroom store.

mrbillishere woah! Coincidentally, Paragon is my favorite game. That's the kind of Paragon I want in my life!

Does yours still have the kmiec post?

I've had a few games with the kmiec post still retained. Paragon, xenon and wizard all had the posts!

    #27 10 months ago

hassellcastle that's a gorgeous DE right there! I don't think the price is outrageous- is it high... Yes. The shape of the game imo should command that kind of money!

    Good luck with sale!

I guess by vintage, I mean something not newer like: Stern, spooky, Chicago, highway, etc.

    Let's see that classic Williams!

How about Class Of 1812? The story I got was that it was given away by Pepsi bottling of Madison for the Monster Bash contest to an employee for some sort of sales contest. The guy I bought it from bought in 1993 it from a co worker that was the one that won it. All that was told to me after I bought it while folding it up at his place. Sorta like oh yeah I've owned it since 93 and it was never vended. Then he tell me about the contest paper inside with the manual and paperwork. Of course its on Pepsi of madison letterhead. If you look online there are vinatge Pepsi Monster Bash things with the same logo on it as the paper. I know its not a bill of sale but I was amazed at how clean it was overall aside from having never been shopped.

Here's an HUO Pinbot I owned many years ago. Bought for $500 out of a rich person's NYC condo.

I always think it's funny when people pretend that you don't know an HUO game when you see it.

Those who have seen it know.

Whirlwind. Bought from the daughter of a lady who passed away last Thanksgiving weekend. The lady loved games of all types and had 1940s slot machines, blackjack table, pool table, etc. in one bedroom was an arcade game, a non-working Hyperball, a HUO Lights Camera Action, and this Whirlwind. Only moved one time between houses since 1990. Only played when the grandkids visited about once per month. The LCA was staying in the family. I tried! Haha! Condition is King to me. I’d have to say this is one of the nicest original Whirlwinds around. No Diamondplate is only “flaw”. Mylar has zero bubbling or lifting and crystal clear. It smells like “old lady house” when the fan blows. Here are a few pics that highlight condition :
