I've got a Dr Dude sample that got Lenc-Smith's test L.S. Topcoat treatment.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

What kind of coating is that?

If I recall correctly, from researching the interwebs a while back, WMS tested two clearcoats for their games. Lend-Smith was the WMS playfield and cabinet manufacturer and they tested a playfield clearcoat 'L.S. Topcoat'. Sun Process, the company who did all the screen printing for WMS, tested their clearcoat 'DiamondPlate'. DiamondPlate performed the best, L.S. Topcoat only appeared on sample games during the testing period. From what I read nobody has ever mentioned that Dr Dude was one of the games that was tested with L.S. Topcoat which makes me think that my one is rare. Maybe it is just because people don't really pay that much attention to Dr Dude

Quoted from MustangPaul:

Cool story. How is your pf holding up? As good as a Diamond Plate?

I have no way to tell. It was routed pretty hard. Worn to the wood around the bumpers (the rest of the PF had mylar) and I've seen the bumper area unscathed on non-clearcoated examples.

The design doesn't look at all authentic to me either. The bumpers should be in a diamond pattern.

ALSO, if you have a diamond plate Dr dude, please let me know so I can get a count. so far 1.
cheers, ron kruzman

I've got a L.S. Topcoat sample playfield on mine. Not as good as DP, of course, otherwise L.S. Topcoat would have won out, but must be better than no clearcoat!
