Quoted from Medic:

Any tips on removing these screws on stern coin door? Tried everything I had in the house but there is not much clearance for a socket to go in there.
[quoted image]

You can use small needle nose pliers to loosen them a turn or two and that should give you room for your socket/nut driver to fit. Sometimes you just have to press down harder and the wall of the socket will slip over the edge. The worst part is when the screws are over driven and they are embedded into the plastic on the actual mechs. They are always in hard to reach areas making it even more of a challenge.

Thank you all for the suggestion on removing the nut I will try later. This is my first time taking it to a powder coat place and been reading that the parts get heated. I believe the shooter housing on my stern is plastic? Will powder coating be a problem with the housing? It’s from a new stern prem. Thanks again

Shooter housing should be plastic. Bring that piece and you will be fine.

The shooter housing is definitely not plastic. A good PC place will press out that center bushing, blast the finish off, PC it, and press fit the bushing back in place. That's what mine does and it comes out great every time.

Those suck removing , especially the ones in-between the coin mechs.. I have lots of powder coated games, and only did one coin door because of this. When I put it back together, I used Phillips head bolts that were same size instead of those,

I just did this last week. I used a nut driver. I think its 3/16" Then for the hard to reach ones between the 2 coin mechs I used a socket with extension and wiggled it to the right position.

That should have said "shouldn't" be plastic. Easy to powder coat. I stuck a piece of tape on the copper ring, not sure it was needed.

Coin-doors are a pain in the ass but it's so worth it.

Has anyone done a coin box? I bought a pin with one done and I will do them all going forward.

It’s a great idea to include the coin box lid with your armor when powder coating. It’s a really nice touch. I agree that having the coin door coated is awesome when you can have it done. I’ve had a few done by Steve at Pinball Refinery. My fav is still my Fish Tales, that looks like a rainbow trout! Sometimes I simply install a new door, if black looks nice.

Do you have pictures of the lid?

I don’t, I only just started including the lid with the armor for coating. I wish I had done the lid back then. I might still have it done for that game.

These are the only way to go for those tight places. They work great!

White could work well as it will pull from the girls clothing and posters, but it could be stark for some people.

Does anyone have a source for the coin door frame for stern spike ? Looking to have an extra set for coin door and already have the skin and dbv plate from other projects.

#1919 1 year ago

Well this is annoying, anyone else notice! I didn't notice when I had Godzilla done because I have an extra set of metals, then just swap them out when done. Was taking parts off for bond to be done. The new shooter housings have a stern logo, it's a sticker...no big deal take it off..but wait..they all have two holes in them now! That is gonna look like garbage powder coated! I'm going to take one off of one of my older sterns I never had powder coated.

Maybe they are leftovers from JP that they are burning through by adding the sticker?

Just got mine powder coated and took the sticker off but didn’t realize I would have two holes on it afterwards. Does anyone know where I can buy those lights to fill the hole like in JP rod but a different color than amber? Otherwise I might need to do another one unless there is a creative solution here. I don’t think I want to put a black stern sticker on it

Hi guys. Can anyone confirm whether the side rails on GZ are attached using double sided tape (in Addition to the two bolts on either end)?

How about on a JJP WOZ?

Trying to figure out what I’m getting into before I take the plunge on powder coating for the first time.

Stern spike machines-- side rails are two screws and two bolts. No tape.

Very fitting, it compliments the game nicely. The additional sparkle add is nice since illusion purple is pretty plain without it.

I took off the side rails on my GZ Premium for powder coating. No double sided tape on any Stern games I have seen so far. The side rails are pretty universal for the Spike 2 games.

Anybody have any suggestions for a road case?

#1943 1 year ago

What do you all polish your powdercoated parts with to restore shine and/or remove small defects? The original powdered side rails on my JP, GNR and Wonka have scuffed or dull areas where the backbox rubbed on the rails during transport and I'd like to polish and correct those areas, if possible. I'm curious if there's a product or method that would accomplish this without stripping and recoating the parts. Would something like Eastwood Powdercoating & Paint Polish do the trick or is that a waste of time? I have a high-quality orbital buffer and pads I use to polish paint on my cars, if that's the recommended approach?

Sorry for the late reply, but I changed out the LED color for one side of JP rod to yellow for more dynamic lighting effects. I used 5mm LEDs from Evan Designs. Don't forget, you would also need to get the plastic bushings if you don't already have them.
