Quoted from Jarbyjibbo:

See I think a vein color like this would be nice for my JP prem but in a brown/copper color. I really like the Grecian Gold vein I have on my LOTR. Without getting into the feather debate, I just feel like the brown skin more accurately looks like a dinosaur to me. I just haven't found the color on the Prismatic site that hits the mark exactly.

I hear ya.

I totally agree that a veined brown would be more reptile dinasaur-ey. But I was concerned it might end up looking like an antique weathered metal, perfect for Lotr or Hobbit or POTC.

This green matches well with the JP cabinet, seeing that the LE is green too.

I love how it looks on Jurassic Park, but it's probably even better for Godzilla.

@RTS...

Quoted from RTS:

Here's an alternate green color I borrowed from adam12hicks.

It has a green reptile skin effect that I think would work even better on Godzilla.

That may look really good on CFTBL too. I'm going to PC mine soon in a textured finish like that. Not sure if I go a little darker green tho.

Thoughts?

Yeah I think it could look great on Creature and also even AFM as an alien skin.

But I could also see something darker looking good on Creature...

Don't own GZ but I'm a huge fan of all the vein colors. Trying to figure out a brown/copper color to do my JP prem in. I have the grecian gold vein on my LOTR.

I would have gone with a more burnt orange tone of brown. That being said, that tan armor is neutral and you can't go wrong with it.

FYI - The rubber on your left sling is not going around the post correctly in your photo.

Yea I saw that on the pro, I'm just not sure how that green would look on the prem. I'm thinking of something more copper/orangish brown to compliment the cab colors a little more. Sorting by your posts, you have quite a bit of the vein color there in your lineup. They all look sharp. Did you clear all of yours with a top coat. The first time my coater did a vein for me we didn't do the "optional" (per the Prismatic site) clear top coat and the vein accent color started coming off where my hands would rest on the side rails and LDB.

Yes they are all cleared. Robert Stone always has done a perfect job for me on everything I have ever sent. The clear turns out great and doesn’t interfere with any of the effects.

Anybody have any tips or tricks for the do it yourselfer?

The stern pro powdercoat is proving to be quite tough to remove. Especially on the more delicate coin door pot metal.

I have a nice sand blast cabinet with aluminum oxide... Takes it off but slow process.
Ive seen aerosol gasket remover and air craft stripper recommended elsewhere.

Surely guys doing this in bulk aren't spending the time this has taken me so far.
Thanks in advance!

Anyone got any leads on Powder Coat and Fiber Laser cutting services in the Pittsburgh area?
I've reached out to Pittsburgh Laser twice via their website to no avail which means they are too busy or not interested.
If it didn't require a big ole oven I'd be purchasing the stuff myself and doing it and...Fiber Lasers that cut metal are too expensive.
Any leads are appreciated.
Thanks

Any thoughts on automotive painting of these rather than powder coat? In my area there's not a lot of volume work with the local powdercoaters, and so for any colour other than a tiny selection of browns and greys, it's a special order (min 20kg of powder)! Ie it's too expensive to get a nice vibrant colour. Thinking my local panel beater could do something decent for half the price.

If I protect the interface between lockdown bar and side rails, I can't see much wear happening anywhere else. It's all home use, what do you think?

I had some pinball armor for my ex-pinball machines made with automotive painting by a professional. I think it worked ok for armor, but e.g. bolts and bolt holes in legs will wear out. But if you are not planning on moving the pin much, it should not be a problem. There are also currently these kinds of products available: https://www.free-play.se/produkter/verktyg/soft-socket-58-no-scratch-leg-bolt-socket.html

#1823 1 year ago

Yeah I'm fine with black leg bolts and maybe use those plastic nuts between those and the legs. Might give it a go in any case, cheers.

Not sure on fiber laser cutting but for powder I use allegheny metal finishing on route 22 near imperial. They have done 10 or more games for me and always get excellent results. Ask for Jason.

Thanks again for this lead. Dropped a set of rails off this morning on the way to RMU Rink. I have a whole set I'm wanting to customize, so I wanted to ask some questions while I was there. Looking promising.

They do great work and the prices can’t be beat. Word of warning call before you go pick up. They will promise next tues. Then Thurs. then following Monday. Only downside. But still worth it.

Any recommendations for a GZ prem powder coat?

Focusing on yellowish. Ideally, something that transitions from yellow to orange.
