I have a Monte Carlo and the stepper unit has switches that look like that when sitting in its resting position. Should they be touching?

Some switches are " normally open" as compared to normally closed. You would have to dig a little further and reference the schematics.

You can rotate the score motor and so long as they are open at some point and then close at some point they are PROBABLY OK. I wouldn't go messing with score motor switches until you have exhausted almost all other possible solutions to whatever problem you are having. It's too easy to mess things up there.
