Getting tired of waiting to see video of the LE/Premium gameplay and have money burning a hole in my pocket. Still on the fence if the premium is going to be worth the extra money...what does everyone think? Will the differences be worth the money?

I'm happy with my pro for sure. 2k saved can buy a nice B list game too to go next to it. If the premium comes out and the extra features I decide I have to have it I will sell my pro and upgrade then. I'll lose a few hundred but I get to play it for 2 months before premiums finally ship.
One each way, lol....that doesn't help
I am leaning towards Whridlsoncestood, waiting to hear some prices of the pro as of late there have been some really good prices being talked about and if I can get one around those I would buy today
After playing the PRO I'd say go with it since I can't see the value that the Premium/LE's have over it game play wise. Sure the hammer, under pf lock, moving cross, and 2 spinners might be the true vision of the game in the designer's view. Just take into account what do they add to the game play if anything at all. In my opinion I think Stern created a PRO which is more value for the buck versus the other versions as they did with Xmen, Avengers and Tron.

So it sounds like you really want the machine soon. So get a price and pull the trigger. And if you find later that you really wanted the hammer, swap it out for the premium.
(You have played the pro, right?)
The pro is a shell of a game.

I dunno, I had been debating this same thing myself. I think the pro has got everything right and is a lot of bang for your buck. I can't say that the addition of the hammer toy and spinners is enough to justify $2k+ extra for me, or if it will even improve the game at all. I can always change my mind later, but I'm going with the pro for now.

I don't understand this logic. No offense, but wait! Ordering an LE:premium is going to speed up the process of seeing the differences, nor is it going to speed up production. Video/pictures will still be released before your even given a set shipping date. Just wait it out and enjoy the games you have for another week; then decide when all the cards are on the table.
I'm a big fan of toys, so I personally couldn't pass on the machine with what looks to be a top notch toy in the hammer/disappearing ball mech. But I've played the pro and it is nice. If you don't care about the toys and just want a solid game for a little less cash, the pro wouldn't be a horrible option . . .
I was suppose to get a LE and was one of the lucky ones to get screwed. Who knows what I should do. I do like the premium dd look just trying to justify the price difference.

Justify it by looking at how much you saved by not buying the LE . . .
Quoted from movingpictures:Well, we already know the pro is a blast, so either version will be a keeper.
It all comes down to preference.
I'd suggest you ask yourself the following:
- can I live without the extra features?
- are they worth $2000+ to me?
- do I like incandescent bulbs or surface mounted LEDs?
As far as 'missing features' that point is completely debatable.
Stern has proven that added LE 'features' are often anything but.
I can't wait to play an LE and I'm sure buyers of both will be happy.
Hey PB22,
Long time no speak! Well I've been lucky enough to have around 30 plays on the pro and as good as the pro plays I'd still do the premium over it if the funds allow. Not having spinners is lame and the captive ball on the pro is kinda weak too (sound/shot-wise). Having the hammer/subway as well as the choreographed light show is worth the extra $$$ IMHO. Now if only they could include the WHOLE song during gameplay and throw in some additional songs to take Metallica to 11.
Good luck with your decision!
That's the problem, the difference between the Premium and LE is nothing compared to the cost difference between the Pro and Premium.
Quoted from wonderpuddle:Justify it by looking at how much you saved by not buying the LE . . .
The fuel target is mechanically different on the premium. The art would get more love if it wasn't for the translite. After looking under "the hood" on the prem ACDC, the LEDs are a large part of the cost difference and don't know if I can live w/o it. The toys are not integral to gameplay but the mechanical functionality is part of the overall pinball experience. The pro version does live up to the hype but saying its the best pro is like saying you are the best C student. With this all being said, I'm on the fence and will wait to see the premium in action before pulling the cord. Each to their own.

Premium my son....
Worth the wait every time...
This is a personal taste issue for me. The Premium/LE's just don't offer me personally an extra $2k worth of must-have features. I went with the pro, ordered LEDs, and am perfectly content with that. I can always upgrade down the road if I wish...
I played the pro for about one hour yesterday on location. I kept thinking this pro in particular suffers from not having a real ball lock. For me getting the whole package with the LE is worth it, or at least more worth it than other recent $7k Stern offerings.
Quoted from ctozzi:Pro is a great bang for the buck, but as soon as you see and play the Premie your gonna kick yourself. Just wait till you see some real videos of the extra features and with LED's, then if you feel the 2K isn't worth it, there will be plenty of Pro's still avail for sale NIB.
...and keep in mind it's not just LEDs, but Color Zone GI...the game can turn all red, all blue, all white, or combinations (white/red, blue/red, white/blue). Also there are some inserts with color changeable lights which could be used in interesting ways.
Both games are unlimited, so why not just wait a few weeks as people start getting their LEs (same features as Prem), read up on impressions and make your decision then.
Quoted from pinlawyer:I'm waiting for my Premium. The light show is what sold me on waiting.
I liked the Light show on the AC/DC Prem , Wolverine etc ,, So Factory !! I like to Bling my Own .
That's " My " Enjoyment .. I spent a Fortune on Tron Pro and it was Stunning !! To Each their Own
Played the pro today for the first time...definitely going premium and actually hope it improves the game play. Was disappointed flippers seemed weak and ramp shots Were sometimes a problem which seemed completely due to flippers. Snake also seems like it will be a trouble spot in the future. I am interested to see how the hammer is incorporated.
For now I will be patient and wait.
Good move. The wait will pay off. Being anxious like you were makes me think you are a real fan of the group too. So when the LE will come out you will kick yourself for not waiting and appreciate the full experience. Every thread keeps talking about amazing art and awesome toys. Premium have more of both.
LE/Premiums have had stronger feeling flippers for some reason lately. Not sure why since it seems they would use the same mechs. If you can afford it I'd hold out for a Premium.
I wish i had the $$$ needed to purchase either tables. If you have the cash to purchase the better table, do so! Buyer's regret is a .... you know. I hope you enjoy the table you do get!
Thought I would bump this back up....after watching the video of the le/premium I am back on the fence. I had sold myself the premium differences were worth the money but really not sure now!!
Buy a pro and have fun modding it out or buy a premium????
Also its hard to tell how much the hammer blocks a persons view.

Read all the comments from Les... if I remember correctly he says it DOES NOT block much of the playfield view. Les seems to really like the Premium/LE, and he actually has one!

I am getting a premium, traded my spot on an LE so am getting a fairly good deal. Perhaps that was a mistake as the LE look super, but time will tell. If I wasnt getting the good deal on the premium I would have to highly consider a pro. Here are my thoughts based on only videos and les' comments.
Pro is great "bang for the buck"
Here is what you get on the premium thats extra and my thoughts.
Hammer
Cool toy for sure, needs some work on the software side but no biggie there. Does not seem to kill flow at all and really looks col with the band members craved into it. Its said to not be a view blocker so net add here.
Snake
I was excpecting a little more from the moving snake, figured his mouth would close all the way but it barely moves. Also thought it would be a "talking snake" since that guy does the voice but not seeing this yet? Maybe it will come. All that said prefer it over the pro as it kinda makes it have two shots since its closed sometimes and acts as a switch vs always swallowing the ball..and this may actually add flow!
Moving Cross
Doesnt go all the way down, thought it might move up increments as you hit it. Kinda cool how it rises up, but not sure if this is a net add or not.
Fuel Targets
nothign to see here
Spinners
cant believe these arent in pro but value add yes
LED's
it think this is the biggest value add, yes you can add your own but the orchestration of the light show is a huge plus. Also the color changers. Wish the fuel meter was more colorfull..but still huge difference here.
Also you get the lockdown bar and rails, metal apron and lights and the DD trans is really nice and detailed.
Its close and this is more a testament of the pro being a really good pro than the Premium being a dissapoinment.
Perhaps if they tossed in powder coated armor and a diff cab it would be worth it
So...if money is a concern I would go Pro its a really good value, but its darn close and if money is not a concern premium is super nice and worth extra for sure maybe just not quite 2k!
Have been patiently waiting on the LE/Premium video to determine my choice...when I saw that it had been posted I ran from the shop to the house, wrangled up my son, and we sat down to watch Lyman show us the magic.
We made it through half the vid before stopping it. It was readily apparent that the extras really just did not have the "bang" that we anticipated. Really were hoping for a dynamic hammer with a crashing sound effect and a snake mouth that snapped up the ball. Sometimes our imagination is better defined than reality.
Will be a pro for us...the extra money will allow us to mod it out together and have fun with it.
Thanks Stern for giving options, looking forward to our first NIB.

So to wrap all that up - 2-3k essentially gets you 2 spinners and some LED's, and better siderails/apron.
After seeing the LE, get the pro. The snake biting the ball is more of a twitchy lip, and that huge hammer moves like 1/2 an inch. Not sure if those features are done, but if they remain that way they are super lame.
Quoted from jalpert:The pro is a shell of a game.
The only reason I want Stern to only make one version is so you would all shut up about which one is the 'correct' one to get.
P.s. Buy them all, then you can't be wrong!
Biggest thing for me was the coffin was so lame on the pro. Not sure if worth the upgrade price, but nonetheless a hazy coffin with 3 lights for locks is really dumb.
Quoted from jrivelli:a hazy coffin with 3 lights for locks is really dumb.
I like it. Much better than putting the lock indicators on the backpanel, or cluttering up the playfield with big green inserts.

Sounds like you may be comparing it to Avengers, but anyways. It's one giant insert with 3 lights that you can't tell really which one is fully on half the time. Not an easy indicator. The LE and prem have a clear insert with the ball lock, haven't seen it yet but sounds pretty cool.
When I was playing pro I just had no idea what the faint red light in the hazy coffin was.

I agree...a good solution for home users is to have 3 different colors down there. One color for each lock. Worth trying at least.
