I was trying to get some advice on this trade and here is the scenario I have a house use only pirates of the Caribbean for stern it’s low plays and really clean, I don’t enjoy playing it.

I was possibly gonna trade it so I was seeing what people had and somebody offered me a really really clean roadshow with a lot of nice mods but no color DMD and that’s what I was kind of hoping for.
I think roadshow would be a great second game next to my whirlwind but roadshow by itself I didn’t want to have as a single pin. I guess my main concern is trading out that Road Show later on.

I was thinking about selling off pirates to try to get a Godzilla pro so I guess I’m just seeing what some opinions are and I understand that I need to make the choice myself but I do appreciate this community.

My 2 cents no way on trading a potc for rs. Lets see pics of the roadshow and the pirates to really be sure. Cash would have to come your way. But if you are already hoping for this deal, whats the point of the thread? I would also sell pirates for GZ pro. As said above, Im not a fan of road show. You will get bored fast with this pin vs GZ pro

Trading when it works is awesome. I've had very good luck with Pinside people.

Though if you don't know the person, they don't have good Pinside comments. You might not want to do that.

If your second guessing it than your not ready to trade.

#5 2 years ago

My family does not want roadshow they say the heads creep them out But they aren’t really into playing much Pinball in the first place.

The roadshow is in very good condition and I’ve always liked that game but I was just wondering about in the future trying to use it for leverage and trading. That is where my hesitation comes from.

He also said he’d be willing to drive it to my house and deliver it and he lives three hours plus.

you can always add a color DMD. That shouldn't even factor into your thinking, outside of the perceived value to value of the machines.

It’s not a good trade financially, but if you’re willing to give up about $1k in “pin equity” to get a game you enjoy more that is your call. Or, if he’s willing to add that amount in cash it’ll be much more even. I have a Godzilla premium on back order, but with games being forecasted into 2023, it will be a long wait. I plan on swapping my 3-pin lineup a few times before GZ finally lands.

#8 2 years ago

That’s kind of my thinking too about the equity aspect of it. I was even thinking about trying to find a JP pro in the meantime or a nice SM to go next to Whirlwind until I could find a Godzilla pro.

Agree that Stern POTC is a bit more valuable than a Road Show. Having said that as long as the value works out roughly even and you want to switch it up, do so. I’ve bought and sold around 15 pins since I started in this hobby about 5 years ago and I was really reluctant to let things go in the past. Now I’m more open to moving pins and getting others. Variety keeps things interesting!

#10 2 years ago

That was kind of my thinking too. It is a beautiful RS and has the chip to switch up the modes but I was a little worried about it getting old fast. Even though it’s a packed game.

If the trade is a fair trade (cash your way) 100% do Roadshow. You can get a new (to you) pin in your house that you can play through the honeymoon phase and then sell/trade if and when you get tired of it.

It's not my favorite game, but the guy who made this made (in order) Banzai Run, Earthshaker, Whirlwind, Funhouse, The Addams Family, Twilight Zone, Roadshow... bits and pieces of those previous games show up in Roadshow.

If you want a Godzilla, do the Roadshow deal and put a deposit down on Godzilla with a reputable distributor today. Play roadshow until you get word your Godizlla is almost ready, then liquidate Roadshow to partially fund Godzilla.

Selling a game to then order a new game and wait for it to come in is no fun.

Put down a deposit, trade for a game that is not a long term keeper for you... play the crud out of it, and sell it when your new game is ready.

Good luck!

You'll be able to trade or sell Roadshow when the time comes. Sounds like you enjoy the game and you know about the code update to make it more enjoyable in the home. Make the trade, play Roadshow, tell the family to mind their own business and then when you've had you're fill, move it out for another game.

#13 2 years ago

I agree. I have always been a Pat Lawlor fan.

That’s funny!

I think your pirates is worth 2k more than roadshow. You are better off selling it for market value and then taking your pick.

#16 2 years ago

Agreed with all the others, road show plus cash would be fair. I like it alot better and just my opinion but a solid 90s Bally/Williams DMD will be better sale or trade bait down the road anyway than a Stern POTC. I think you're better off with the RS assuming you like the game. I had one for a while and it didn't really get old...I never made it through all 18 modes or whatever in the time I had it. I only played POTC on location but I thought it was boring as hell.

#17 2 years ago

I agree pirates is boring! He has a very nice roadshow that is in great condition that he put a lot of time and money into what is the way to go about asking for trade plus $. I’ve never really had to deal with that before, I guess that’s a good problem to have on my end.

I've done a few trade plus cash deals (on both sides). Probably a good way is something like I value my game around X dollars and your game around Y dollars so I'd be looking for about Z in cash from you to make up the difference. If he's driving 3 hours to deliver it I'd factor that in as well and I'd (personally) ask for less cash since he's spending his day and gas to bring you a game...you'd both have to decide what thats worth. I'd also ask him what he values the games at and go from there.

I actually just traded my RS plus cash for a NGG. We settled on less cash coming from me because I made the drive from Cleveland to Buffalo...so about the same distance, 3 hours each way and gas.

#19 2 years ago

What don't you like about POTC? The line about your family not liking the talking heads reminds me of when I first got a Funhouse. My daughter was totally creeped out with Rudy. FH had to go into an unfinished part of the basement and not with the other pins. Have you played Roadshow? Lawlor games (at least for me) have a weird sameness. I have a TAF, FH and TZ. Lots of tight shots on all of them and all can be frustrating. I have a POTC and it is a refreshingly straight forward game to play in contrast to the Lawlor pins.

#20 2 years ago

Pirates just seems kind of boring to me and kind of feels like it didn’t have life to it if that makes any sense. It feels more like a game with just objectives and no soul to it.

#21 2 years ago

I like RS more than I like Stern POTC. I agree with what others have said the value isn't equal. I wouldnt trade unless you are sure you like it more than POTC.

#22 2 years ago

Here are some pictures of the roadshow.

Depends really what you value that POTC at... I've seen some nice Road Shows go for $6500 lately.
I personally love my RS (mine has the color DMD LCD) and I wouldn't trade it for a Stern POTC, I'd be open to the trades and offers but not a 1 for 1 on that title.
So basically what I'm saying is if you like Road SH9ow, you could do worse than this trade In my opinion.

Ask him to install a color dmd and do the drive and call it a day

#25 2 years ago

I owned a RS for years and really liked the game. Primary reason I sold it was the linear gameplay the same two modes to start. Mostly taxi cab.

Once I got deeper in the game really enjoyed the less played modes. If this was fixed it would make a big difference in keeping the game.

Good luck.

That is actually funny you saying that because it was exactly what my thoughts were if I had the color DMD I think I’d be I’d be set.

Ask him to throw in the 400 bucks and call it a day. If it were me I wouldn't buy one and install it for someone if I had to drive them a game...too many unknowns...what if the deal falls apart or the other guy flakes when I get there? Just asking for the DMD money in cash would be way smoother IMO.

There is a software update now that randomizes the modes!

The roadshow is really nice except the cabinet is a little faded. If potc is in huo condition I think the difference is more like $800-$1000. If it were me, I would sell the POTC and have the money to buy whatever I wanted.

#30 2 years ago

You will LOVE RS. Agree a little money probably needs to come your way. RS was not on my radar but I was able to get one on a straight trade for a minor project RS for a JD. I hated the dredd but Roadshow? That shaker is a blast and Red and Ted are funny! It has quickly become one of my favorites In my collection

Nice looking roadshow!

#32 2 years ago

So it looks like I’m going to meet up to get the roadshow and he’s got a whole list of mods done to it as well! So he’s gonna deliver it he’s also gonna give me two sets of foot holders that have wheels so you can wheel them around and he’s gonna give me $400 towards a color DMD so I think this is a win!
