Well im most likely going to do it anyway but i want to know the groups thoughts.

I want to restore my stargate. This will involve getting the playfield repaired and cleared. ($575) from Neo
New or Replated Ramps, Price Quote of $350 from Mark C. to replate them.
New Decal Set $50
New Plastic Ramp $50
Playfield Misc. $100
Rope light $30

So what would you do? I dont plan on selling the game anytime soon but when the time comes what could i expect out of it. since stargates are $1500 in average shape with the usual playfield wear. Would it be a waste to do all of this?
right now everything is fully functional except the rope light. so i dont have to do any board repairs.

Did you check with Mike Chestnut (hpu at comcast dot net) to get an estimate? $350 seems kind of high. Mike Chestnut does awesome work, and prices his work very fair.
BTW, I vote you do restore the game. I just picked one up and love it. Its a fun game, and definitely the best Gottlieb out there!

$350 is on the high side. Hes never done a stargate so i was quoted at $35 each piece and there's 9 pieces plus shipping. It could be less.

ok i took mesurements of the ramps and sent them to mike. new estimate is $275-300. i was bidding on the ebay one but its so close now that i think ill just have mike do them and not have to worry about the pryamid. mikes estimate also includes the apron rail.

That's interesting to see. Wonder how the PF will come out. Yours is (was? lol) in a lot worse shape than mine looks like, certainly a lot dirtier! Have any kind of estimate on when you'll get it back from the restorer?

The Mylar came off good with only one spot lifting up but the playfield itself needed alot of work.
2 months for the playfield to come back, 1 month for the ramps and habitrails to come back from mike, just ordered a boatload of stuff from pbresource. I still have to order the rubbers, balls, Bulbs and other miscellaneous stuff. When its all said and done i could have bought 2 of them for what i have spent on this one. That also does not count all the time i have put into it.

no it went up lol.. Its now a level 4 restoration and is $600. To replate the Ramps and get the mounting tab fixed is $300 I noticed on the pics i posted that the coin door looks grey in the pic of the front of it. Its Black just like the backside. The legs look black and they are polished chrome. Guess the camera flash messes with it.

UPS showed up and now i have some toys to play with. I already had the light board ready to go. It was nasty brown color so i sanded it and painted it white. You can see how bad the old rope light was when its sitting next to the new one.

I painted the sides, front and back. I sanded the crap out of the bottom.

I have all the coils done, lightboards done, wires all cleaned, ball guides all polished. I think all i have left to do is the plastics. Then i get to wait for the ramps and playfield to get back. I am waiting to put the new decals on everything till its just about done.

Backside is done and wired up. I put it in the cabinet away from destructive kids. Now time to wait to do the top half.

Little teaser pic. Im waiting on two ball guides to get fixed and brackets for the plastic ramp to get rivited on. now the question is should i LED it or not. Im usually not a fan of leds on the playfield cause its just too bright. I do use them in all the inserts. Anyone have a pic of a stargate with leds in it? I like to see different combinations of them. not a "kit". oh and does anyone have a 6/32 machine thread base with a acorn nut top bolt. I broke one and dont have a spare.

Its done finally. Heres the final list for those who want to know what all was done.
Playfield restored
ramps replated
new plastic ramp
new flaps
All new post
All new Decals
New DMD
Coin door refinished
Inside cabinet stripped, sanded and painted.
All metal has been polished.
New Rope light
All new Rubbers and Bulbs
Everything has been cleaned and it was alot of cleaning
Leg protectors
Polished legs. (they were just not shiny enough lol )
New levelers.
Lighted Flippers
All flippers were rebuilt.
All other coils were rebuilt.

It was a fun project and the game is super fast now. Its faster the the JP lost world i had. It also makes the ramps with ease now. The only thing left that i want now is a new sheet of glass but the local guys are about 4 times higher then what they are at a show. So I'll just wait on that.

Heres a few pics but the camera does not pick up just how much this thing shines in person.

Off to the next project........

Quoted from ssbodyman:

Looks great! did you put LEDs in or not?

Not yet. If i do LEDs it would only be in the inserts and maybe a few dark spots on the playfield. Ive played a few games with superbrights in them and dont like the way that it shines right through the plastics and all you see it a big white blob. If you cant see the ball coming then your game is too bright.
