I have a potential trade. I would trade Stern Star Trek pro, Stern 24 and Star Trek the next generation and in return get a Stern Star Trek LE and Stern Spider-Man VE. What do you think?? I’m undecided and just want Pinside’s advice. All machines are in very good to like new condition. Is this a good trade or am I crazy??

#2 6 years ago

Value wise I don't think it's a bad deal.

#3 6 years ago

I forgot to mention the trade will be with a friend, so I’ll be able to play the games I trade at his place. Still undecided....

#4 6 years ago

i would make that trade all day.

#5 6 years ago

Yep do it especially since it’s to your friend

#6 6 years ago

ST Pro:$4300-$4800
24: $3600-$4200
STTNG: $4000-$4500

against:
STLE: $7500-$7800
SMVE: $6000-$6500

It could be roughly equivalent value-wise, give or take a couple thousand.

If you trade with a friend you have to constantly tell him about little issues you have to fix (real or not) on his games.

Then when you detect a bit of guilt use it to open the door to visit your old games. And he should have some beer when you visit.

This gives you access to all games and beer and enough guilt to play your old one. Win, Win.

If it’s a friend, then I would do it. If your at all worried then just trade for 6 months

#9 6 years ago

Yeah, the 3 for 2 trade has me worried, but I think it’s fair for both sides

As long as you both feel good about it, it will work out. If either feels they are being taken advantage of, stop and don't do it.

Trades with friends can be great. Sometimes it will feel like both of you got the better half of the trade. And that's the best.

Are ST and SM really similar playing games? "

#12 6 years ago
Quoted from Budman:

The layout is a very similar Steve Richie design. I think the theme is what really sets them apart. I like them both

#13 6 years ago

Value is one thing but how rare the games are should play a huge factor.
STLE & SMVE. How often do they come up for sale? And when they do how fast do they sell and how close to asking price do they sell for?

ST PRO
STTNG
24
Now these games ask the same question. They are a lot more common as well as the sales tend to be a lot more flexible.

Sometimes 4 for 2 does not make sense. Quality over quantity.

I would argue 24 is one of Sterns most rare pins. Very few were made. That’s why I’m hesitant to part with it

#15 6 years ago

I was a fan of the show but I still did not care for the pin. I have had many discussions about 24 almost everyone I talk to was not impressed. Perhaps that is just me and the people I have asked. Currently Stern 24 is ranked # 203. Sometimes rare does not mean valuable. But it may have a stronger meaning as to holding its resale value because of lack of inventory. You should check closed sales to get a better feeling. I would hands down go with the STLE & SMVE... VERY EASY FOR ME TO MAKE THAT CALL...

I think I've only seen one or two for sale in my area in the past 5 years. It is hard to find. I played a few games on one, and thought it was fun. I just have no idea how much staying power it has in a collection.

I didn't watch the show other than a couple of random episodes, so I only have a general sense of the show and don't know how well it got translated to a pin theme.

On the other hand, there are a limited number of STLE's as well. But personally, I'd be happy with a premium and wouldn't necessarily have to have an LE.

STTNG is always going to be a popular game, but isn't to hard to find one for sale. The price for that one seems to keep creeping up, though. I used to see them for sale in the $3000-$3500 range a couple years ago.

I'd say the value on the ST pro, 24, STLE, and SMVE will probably hover around where they are now, but I think STTNG will probably continue to creep up some more in the next couple years. That seems to be the overall trend with the popular WPC titles.

#17 6 years ago

I have a Star Trek pro and a Spiderman. Granted the layouts are similar however the gameplay is different enough to keep you engaged

#18 6 years ago

I’d probably do it. ST LE is just awesome.

#19 6 years ago

Just do a 6mo swap to switch things up.. could also agree that at 6 months if BOTH of you are happy you can make the swap a perm. Trade. If either party wants to trade back, no hard feelings. $$$wise it seems somewhat fair. I don’t know about the $3600 to $4200 price eval on 24.. yes it’s rare, but for those that have played it doesn’t seem like many people actually like it? OP — curious what do you think of it after owning it?

That was the price range for the last few sold listings for the game in the marketplace.

But it's terrible. Rarity means nothing if no one wants the pin. 24 sucks, let it go.

The trade is solid and favors you, IMO.

#22 6 years ago

sell your 24 and buy a red spiderman !

I really enjoy it, it’s definitely not the greatest pin, but it’s fun for a few minutes. It has some nice long shots. Just trying to change things up. If we trade, I’ll just play it at his place.

Go that way.....they made less STLE's......and the STLE is just a fakkin beatiful machine...

Thanks for your opinions, ideas and info. Just wanted to see how you guys felt about trades with friends.

I agree. I also think that 24 is a kick ass game. Keep it.

#27 6 years ago

I’d do it if you’d rather play sm than 24 and stnng

#28 6 years ago

Trading with friends is great. Done it several times. Especially if you still get to play them.

#29 6 years ago

I agree, the Trade sounds fair and it’s with a friend so you can still play the games then everyone is happy. I have been thinking about doing this for a while and I like the idea of a 6 month or year trade. It gives you some new pin experience while not having to let go of games you may ultimately want to keep in the long run.

Sounds like a good plan

sounds like an early Christmas present, do it!

STLE is Sterns best LE in my opinion. It is absolutely beautiful. I would jump on this deal for sure.
